Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Sounds like exactly what we need.
Madge, Sheens and Pascoe went about signing nice guys, sometimes you need the mongrel and it's a reason why we're so pathetic, no one has aggression
This is nonsense. There are plenty of players who are 100% committed on the pitch without being scumbags off it, and vice versa. Look at Luai: absolute pest on the field, seems to be a really top guy on his own time. Jared Waerea-Hargreaves is another: one of the game's leading enforcers for more than a decade, complete cleanskin personally. There's nothing to suggest wife beaters offer more "mongrel" than anyone else, just that they like picking on people who can't stand up to them.

Pole and his manager have us over a barrel now. And don’t they know it. I reckon Pole will get $800k or close to it on his new deal. We can’t afford to lose a decent young middle. They will screw us for everything (which they are entitled to do).
Yea well let’s hope it’s about the money for the reason Kelce’s source has said he rejected. Id prefer that then to hear he wants out to a better team like Stef, but then again $800k is too much for him

Whilst we are all ponitificating over possible player signings, what are our options in the coaching ranks?
Assume Benji remains head coach, who should we target re: attacking coach and defensive coach?
The best defensive club over the past 5 years is easily Penrith. They literally let in half as many points as we do. Melbourne are always very good as well.
The best attacking club is also Penrith with the Storm close behind. Both clubs outscore us by close to double year on year.

This is where we must reach out. Surely someone in these systems is looking for a challenge?

I’m convinced Stef has signed with Bulldogs after listening to Phil Gould in this video today.

- he speaks about Stef around 20 minute mark.

Trent Barrett is looking for an assistant coaching gig….

Yeah thats too much. He isnt on training wheels like a lot of others, but is still a P Plater. That sort of dough is a big gamble.

Sack Benji. Appoint Josh Hannay. Let him fill out his coaching ranks.

100%, but I suspect Pole and his manager would have waited anyway. What we should have done is ensured Pole and Stef weren’t up for negotiations at the same time.
Fonua Pole 3 weeks ago:

Pole says he hasn't thought much about his future beyond next season but he's currently loving life at the Tigers and while he might be underrated by most, coach Benji Marshall knows exactly what he's got on his hands.

"I love it here. If Tigers want me to stay here, I'd gladly stay, but I'll see about that when the time comes," Pole said.

"Benji understands us young kids coming through, he's easy to get on with and he knows when to be serious. He's given me confidence in myself, sometimes I struggle with that.

"But he tells me all the time he believes I can be more than I am, that I can be one of the best front-rowers in the game."

My problem with him is he hasnt spent enough time in good systems.
  • Manly 2016-18 = negative differential over these three years as head coach
  • Penrith 2020 = great year as assistant coach
  • Canterbury 2021-22 = disaster as head coach catching a spoon
  • Paramatta 2023-24 = average year as assistant, potential spoonists as interim coach
I dont think he can help us.
