Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Fonua Pole 3 weeks ago:

Pole says he hasn't thought much about his future beyond next season but he's currently loving life at the Tigers and while he might be underrated by most, coach Benji Marshall knows exactly what he's got on his hands.

"I love it here. If Tigers want me to stay here, I'd gladly stay, but I'll see about that when the time comes," Pole said.

"Benji understands us young kids coming through, he's easy to get on with and he knows when to be serious. He's given me confidence in myself, sometimes I struggle with that.

"But he tells me all the time he believes I can be more than I am, that I can be one of the best front-rowers in the game."
Didn't Stef say the same 12 months ago?

Well that’s just not true at all…

‘I’m trying to focus on making the top eight, that’s what I want to do – I want to stay at the Tigers, I want to give back to the club. We’ll see what happens. I haven’t listened [to speculation]. Benji is big on ‘team first’, and putting others before yourself, so that’s what I’m trying to do.’

This was just from February, he said plenty of other things like this over the years. Pretty much along the same lines as Pole

Fair dinkum - it is chalk and cheese between that what Fonua said!

You don't even have to read between the lines to see he was explicitly non-committal!

We all have to read inbetween the lines. What they tell the public and their family in the living room vary greatly. Tell them what they want to hear!!!!

Next sentence: "We'll see what happens."

Do you have dyslexia?
While his current contract states he could be in line for an early exit, the young prop insisted he wanted to re-sign beyond the end of his current deal which expires in 2025.

“I want to stay there, that’s where I want to be, yeah,” he said.
“This is the club that gave me the opportunity to play rugby league at the highest level, in the NRL.
“Back at my old club (Parramatta), I didn’t get the same opportunity. I just want to give back (repay Wests Tigers loyalty).”

This good enough for you? 🤣🤣
