Sack Marshall

Benji needs more time, it was always going to be tough in his first year, though if they are going to move him on, i wouldn't mind seeing brad arthur come in out of all the available options.
He's the only circuit breaker I can see at the moment. We need to give Benji some time to reshape the team. He got 2 great signings over the line... maybe he can do that again.

Plus, Luai is coming in a large part to work with Benji. We can't go impacting that right now.

No, not the exception at all.

"Titans, Tigers, Warriors, Dragons, Knights & Bulldogs"

I mentioned these teams. Since Sheens' FIRST sacking, how much more success have any of these teams had compared to the Tigers?

We are in a perpetual rebuild, like these clubs mentioned, that has spikes & troughs but very little consistancy due to the changing of ideas every couple of years.
The Titans, Warriors and Bulldogs really fit this. You could also add Manly, A team that succeeds in spite of their board trying their best to fire any good coach.

I recall the knights sticking for awhile with Nathan Brown and nothing to show for it. Likewise the Dragons going with Paul McGregor and us going with Madge.

^I think there is a key difference here. The Titans were fickle with Holbrook, The Dragons stayed with Mary till it was impossible, likewise the knights.

What do you do when a coach isn't working?

I think you really have to see if the direction the coach wants to go can work with the players HE wants on the books. Not the guys he was left with. Obviously there is rarely the perfect opportunity to get the complete squad as you want it, but having a squad made up of over 80% of the guys the current coach put in place should allow that coach to succeed or fail on their dime.

Obviously every situation is different. But in Madge's situation, he had a handful of salary cap crushing, long term contracts that really hampered him. Could he have done more with Brooks, Mbye & Packer? Probably. But he was rarely able to compete in the market for guys he wanted.

For mine though- his biggest failing & the thing that excited me for the Sheens return, was the lack of junior players coming through the ranks. If you can't buy the players you want- you have to develop them. And he just didn't.

I think a Nathan Brown or the like as an assistant could do well. He was in a similar predicament at Newcastle with all kids after Wayne and Tinkler screwed the joint and developed some very good players
The thing about rookies in general is they are fearless. They don't care how shit we have been only how good we can be!

Really?

I am struggling to name a Junior Madge developed. ... I honestly am.

Bula was spotted and developed under Sheens. Suddenly we have Galvin, Large, and Sheens gave a fair few Juniors a shot.

Yes Madge had a bumb squad for a long time... I fully give him that. However he had the opportunity eventually to rebuild the tigers. He picked Roberts and Leulia... Sadly Luc worked but BJ never did and I still remember BJ going off about how our training was off/wrong. Also Madge picking Hastings over targetting Adam Reynolds was a joke. Had Reynolds come here, we would have seen a spine we could have made work.

Madge also had 1 playbook. 1 playbook only and was more focused on Attack then defense, where we sucked.

Maguire bought Gardiner over yet he got accused of surrounding himself with assistant coaches that he knew couldn't take the job off him because he was paranoid or whatever those who wanted him sacked. came up with . It's the same old same old just the names have changed.
Probably one of the worst decisions our club made.

Gardiner or Flanagan. Completely wrong move, sure it would be a death sentence for Madge but we had no strong reserve grade coach option.

Our board needed to me more ruthless and have a reserve coach that could have taken Madge's job. Be it John Morris or Shane Flanagan.

100%

The biggest error our board did was not have a reserve coach ready to take the full time reigns.
Brad arthur would be a great addition and we should pinch him before the Titans do.

Yeah, that was my point. The thing that disappointed me most about Madge was he didn't develop any juniors- hence why I was excited to see Sheens return.

We need an older coach around to mentor.
It is a shame that Farah fought with Furner. No idea what was going on, but that dynamic clearly wasn't working.
We need someone like David Furner, Nathan Brown would be an upgrade in that spot.

Nathan Brown,
Trent Barrett
but the big get would be Brad Arthur and I would give Brad 4 years for us to make the finals. 100% he would get us there.

What about Gardner. Or Garth Brennan. Iv no clue just tossing names out there. Personally I'd grab Hook or John Cartwright as assistants only.

We grabbed Gardiner and... we came last.

I kinda wonder why Nathan Cayless was so ineffective for us. I did think he would get the forwards firing but leave gaps in our backline. ... Well the forwards never fired and the gaps in our backline just got bigger.

Hook is definately an option. I would grab him and use him as an assistant/possible fallover when we fire Marshall.

Our biggest mistake was not appointing a strong assistant to take Madge's spot, then throwing the team to a rookie Kimmorley. Man Brett, you got such a hard pass.

Honestly it wouldn't have made ant diffrence who the assistant under Madge was, once Sheens had his eye on the Job it was always going to be his.
