Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Staines and AD show heart but have some serious downsides.
Man - you’ll perish on that Rock…
I’d AD’s darting into space of the opposition to avoid contact is the definition of heart - the rest of the world has it wrong…

Staines, shows some grit bringing the ball back for an undersized, under strength outside back - but I don’t think he’s backed himself once in space in 2 years…

Even when he does score - he unnecessarily runs it into the corner and dives over the sideline, like he’s in a contest….

These blokes are reserve grade level of good clubs - both shown up yesterday by a reserve grade kid who doesn’t get a run in a crap side when they’re full strength

Lets be honest, the entire squad has checked out for 2024... The most obvious sign of this is that there is zero urgency in defense, but everyone is quick to show what they have in attack when there is a half chance.

The next few months should be about reshaping the roster, moving on the players that need to are not up to standard and bringing in players that have the attitude and mental fortitude to bring the club forward.

Pole or Sione Fainu re-singing would be a positive start, followed by some solid external signings over the next few months.
Seyfarth showed urgency in defence, made a try saver kicking the ball in the ingoal before it was grounded. He is taking hit ups harder and does everything at 110% man I love big red.

It's a bit of a worry that the media has gone quiet on Cobbo ever since his form dipped, the Origin rumours about his relationship with Billy & now the police situation. Maybe concerns for his mental health?

Precisely this. How he's been managed etc. There
are some issues there at Red Hill not just with him.
Peter Badel has been very quite too, who knows...

Kotoni Staggs high on my shopping list. We need
to sit tight. Plenty of players 2 b squeezed out soon
I would be interested. But I feel a bit hesitant. He's played at broncos for years, and I've never had him in their top 5 players. I don't think he'd get better with us either. I'd get him but not for big money. He's a decent right centre which we need at least and his form recently has been great

Probably.
Id prefer a 25 year old to be honest.
No 25 year old lock who is decent is going to the tigers. It just won't happen. Career suicide at a young age. Only people who are near 30 or just past it would take the risk. We will have to continue overpaying to attract talent, and we don't even know if they will try their best if they accept our offer

Benji has got many things wrong, but putting faith in Galvin is not one of them.
Galvin has without any shadow of doubt regularly been in our top 3-5 players all season, fine tuning his kicking game is the only real concern.
He's not wrong though. Galvin wouldn't be playing first grade in any other system this year. At least not regularly

Either one of Staggs or Cobbo inprove our outside backs significantly.
This is a copy and paste from the NSW Cup thread, but I am very concerned about what appears to be unfair treatment to Daine Laurie last season and this season Naden, Sullivan, Tumeth and Craig who all share indigenous heritage and it could potentially be off putting other indigenous players.
Maybe it’s just a coincidence, but it is very strange.
This has to be some kind of joke? They all just aren’t good enough for first grade…

I’d say an 850k per season offer for 3 seasons from 2026 probably gets his signature.
Also taking into account he’s quite a good goal kicker.
Isn't it bloody stupid that the NRL Have this rule in place.
That we are allowed to make a play to sign a player this November 2024.
But he won't be able to play for us till 2026.
So what happens if in between now and the end of this season Luai or Turuva does an ACL, Where do we stand.

$850k

Keeps amazing me how some clubs pay players less than others and keep them, when other Clubs offer them far more,
Example TO'O not interested in trying to go elsewhere and maybe get $750.000 or more a season.he is happy staying at Panthers where he is on $625.000 But wait his money will increase to a massive $650.000. Next year. ???? B???S???.

Mate I have no Intel, but I have a feeling richo and
benji will want to get their hands on Cobbo and out
of QLD. The sort of circuit breaker Inglis signing Richo
has been talking about. Something is up at Red Hill
I hope your feeling is right 👍

It’s not rocket science to me Dennis.

playing for the Wests Tigers these past three years must be about as much fun as masturbating with a cheese grater …

If I was To’o I would take the $125k less and play for premierships than go to the Tigers ..

Money isn’t everything

Now please everyone don’t think I’m comparing Galvin to Fittler but every now and then a young player gets an opportunity in the top grade and show that they can handle it and end up staying there.
It doesn’t happen very often but it does and has in the past.
How many Balmain boys here remember Geoff Starling ⭐️

You people who say a player would rather play for far less at another club than play for WestTigers for far more, do you really think Stef has thrown away About $1.2ML to leave tigers to go to Storm NO they are probably paying him same Tigers were, there just not declaring it in there SALARY CAP.

And he's 25 and has taken him 50+ games to get there.

Middles can take a while to mature into first grade players.

Yet some are prepared to right off our young middles like Miller, Kit and Matamua far too early.

Not their fault they were given top 30 spots before they were ready.

We need to fill any roster spots we can free up with experienced players for both NRL and cup so our kids are playing/training alongside hardened NRL players week in week out.

Ideally plenty of shorter 1-2 year deals so we aren't stuck with 4 year contracts like with Bateman and Klemmer.
