As always, it's down to price.

He's good enough at the right price. I dont know what that price is, but I daresay that a good deal financially for us, wont be enough to get the deal done.

As is the case when you're at the bottom.

$500k for 2?

... I dunno.

They've alluded to several, I think you're on the money with Sione.

I expect there to be 2 or 3, I expect them to be underwhelming and I hope, not expect, a Pole extension announcement.

Good analysis, mate.

To zero in on the missed tackles for a sec; that's a concern in the middle for me.

Props are probably the most protected laterally out of any position.

I wonder if Parra struggling this year and Paulo being out of form has led to them being a little looser around the middle.

It would certainly help explain their position on the table given their roster.

Sezer might be another actually. I’m hoping Faataape and Alaimalo aren’t retained.

I’m hoping we get some clarity on Makasini, O. Large, Taupau-Moors and Godinet as well, but that may be pie in the sky.
 
Just having a look at some players in our top 30 next season who haven't justified their promotion IMO with age in brackets:

Faagutu (21), Kit Laulilii (20), Saukuru (21), Sukkar (21), Luke Laulilii (19).

That's 5 players in our 30 squad.

We also know we have 2 out of 6 players locked into Dev (or Supplementary) contracts: Mason (20), Lobb (23).

Now the average age of our contracted squad for next season (making the assumption that Naden, Sullivan, Tumeth depart & Sezer re-signs) will be: 25

And that's kinda skewed due to Api being 33, Sezer 34, Klemmer 32, Olam & Bateman 31.

So fair chance with Richo overseeing things, the only players added to top 30 will be experienced players and likely first 17 players & I'd expect a number of experienced players added to our T&T players.

I'm tipping Harrison Hassett will come on a Dev deal even though he's currently top 30. Perhaps he's Dev in 25, top 30 in 26.

I also reckon Porter, Faataape will join Johannssen on T&T deals. We can't be stupid enough to waste any more top 30 spots. The only fringe-type who possibly may be re-signed on top 30 is Sione Fainu.

That's my 10c worth.

I’d expect a few of the players on the lower end of the earning scale to be paid out, similar to what happened with Reilly and Mansfield at the beginning of 2024 preseason.

pure speculation and not my opinion in terms of who’s more talented than who, but looking at where they’re at in the pecking order I feel as if Faagutu, Feledy and Saukuru might get a tap on the shoulder, and they may well assess doing the same with Matamua.

Yep and thats the risk.
Just because he has performed pretty well at Parra does not translate to our ragtag operation.
We'd need parra to cover a third of his cash.

It's a tough call hey.

Faagutu has the tools & gf at the club too but a dick of a manager.

Feledy has dominated junior reps & attack has been ok in Cup but his defence is nowhere near up-to-scratch and hasn't showed many signs of improving in Cup this season.

Saukuru had an injury-interrupted pre-season & has shown good signs in Cup before his most recent injury. Has the physical attributes to be a very good centre or even moreso backrower in future.
