Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Interesting.
It sure is, from what I’ve heard he’s play 5/8 and a bit of hooker from 14.
I would love for Latu to get the same opportunity that Gal got this year so we know what we have in him as a 5/8 and can compare the two a little more accurately, it won’t happen though. If they are all fit to play we have a 7 and two young 5/8’s that will both wanna play 5/8. Finding the best posi for the team and to keep the odd one out happy is a kool problem to have.
But Gals contract is up before Fainu, so I would be secretly looking to keep him happy till he signs an extension and then it’s in the ring with the two of them and see who survives.
The thing that makes everyone happy with their position is winning. We start doing that and the kids will be just happy to play.

I still can't believe what Manly did with Schuster, and the media barely blinked.

If we had re-signed a player like that for overs at a time where it was obviously a bad deal, and then cut him loose not long after - we would have been rinsed.

Manly have a far smaller fan base than we do so the warranted criticism would not get the same mileage/shock factor as we do.After all the job of newspapers/media is to sell more newspapers and get viewers and not necessarily to educate people.
Murdoch and his filthy empire of liars know this.

They got him to move on for chump change though

I've done a bit of creative accounting with the cap space we know we have and what players are rumoured to be on. Also had a look at the players that I would target based on availability and players looking for opportunities/restricted for minutes at their current club. We may have to pay slight overs on potential and contribute to contracts in the first year to get clubs to take our trash, but this is what I came up with...

Out

Klemmer 850k (WT contribute 150k first year only)
Bateman 650k (WT contribute 50k first year only)
Sullivan 500k (WT contribute 100k first year only)
Naden 450k (WT contribute 50k)
Tumeth 200k (WT contribute 50k)

Total outgoing: 2.25m + 1.8m current in cap space = 4.05m Cap Space

In

Sione Fainu 250k
Nelson Asofa-Solomona 800k (Melbourne contribute 100k)
Royce Hunt 550k
Suia Wong 500k (Slight overs to lure out of Roosters and on potential)
Tallis Duncan 500k (Similar to Wong)
Harrison Hassett 250k

Total in: 3.35m (4.05m cap space after outgoings)

With the 700k cap space remaining upgrade Pole and Galvin’s contracts for 2025 and make them commit long term.

1. Jahream Bula
2. Jeral Skelton
3. Tito Turuva
4. Justin Olam
5. Charlie Staines/L.Laulilii
6. Lachlan Galvin
7. Jerome Luai
8. Fonua Pole
9. Api Koroisau
10. Nelson Asofa-Solomona
11. Suia Wong
12. Samuela Fainu
13. Tallis Duncan

14. Latu Fainu
15. Royce Hunt
16. Alex Twal
17. Harrison Hassett

Depth (Top 30 Contracts):
Staines/L.Laulilii, To’a, Doueihi, Sezer, Da Silva, Seyfarth, Sione Fainu, Miller, Matamua, Feledy, Faagutu, Saukuru, Sukkar and Kit Laulilii.

Porter, Johhannsen, Lobb, Mason, Makasini and Faataape on Development/NSW Cup deals.

This is a dream to move on those players so cheaply…

A pipedream unfortunately..will cost much more ..

Probably, but even if you need to contribute more, there is cap space to do so. Some are only contracted for one more year so some teams make take a shot at a 1yr deal and see what they can get out of them. Not to mention super league...

I could see Souths taking a punt on Bateman and someone getting desperate for a half and taking a punt on Sullivan at 400k. Tumeth you could just pay out his contract like Mansfield-Webster. Klemmer and Naden are the ones that would be the tougher sell!

Great post @Canadian Club . I do think we'd have to chip in a lot more for all of our offcuts!

I feel you are being far too optimistic in what you feel we would have to pay to remove those players but it is nice to dream (apologies i have just read what others have also said)No offence meant

Im not saying they dont have the cap space to do so… just that it will cost more ..it’s a buyers market …moving players on..

For example the Knights paid $400k of Klemmer‘s Year 1 salary when he came here ..
and he was arguably more highly thought of then rather than now

It was all NRL 360 talked about for a weeks mate 😂 same when Pangai left early even tho he was on big money

They will most likely both tested at pre-season training as an indicator before the trials who gets the run on tick...... like Galvin this year.
Wests Tigers really excel in the off season. Looking forward to it!

Wong would be an excellent pick up lots of potential there still only 21, backrow pairing of him and Fainu would be very exciting.
