Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Also in the Telegraph this morning. Dave Riccio has an article on the Knights and it brings up that Leo Thompson could go to market on November 1 this year. I quote “if Thompson does take himself to the open market, watch for Penrith and Melbourne to come swinging”. If he goes to one of those to clubs it needs to be the final straw for the salary cap.
Penrith? The club that has let Koroisau, Burton, Kikau, Crichton, Fisher-Harris, Genius, Turuva and Luai go to manage their cap? Penrith is the best possible example of a salary cap working.

We need good players not just other clubs dregs
We need to be careful and not blow our cap on external experienced players.
We have enough ‘stars’ recruited and retained internally. We need our youth to grow with experience but ultimately we don’t want to have just one year where it all comes together and fall away again. The benchmark is Penrith I.e sustainable success and that is only achieved by having the best players in your team who have time to grow and build year by year.
Need supplementary players that can help form a hard working consistent culture.

I think we continue to focus on our juniors.

Winning in 2025 will legitimise this club and make recruitment easier
Agree but we need to add a few experienced players to help win games and develop them.
IMO If we don't win games these young players start listening to their managers and leave for clubs winning... It's a fine balance but winning shuts up them negative media and help massively with morale

yep. it’s time for a points system.
Nope ! A draft . Well 2 to be exact . A draft for existing players , and another for amateur . You’re not going to stop player hoarding by top clubs , but the issue isn’t that they’re hoarding , it’s that there’s no penalty/ compensation for the fact . High draft picks/ huge financial restrictions are the only way forward .
It’s amateur hour in the nrl … always has been

We need both.

We are scoring points and we are letting alot in mainly because we get dominated in the middle & let teams roll down the ground.

Chad puts abit of effort into things, one of a few that do. He isn’t wrong with what he is highlighting.

The other thing is the market is bare and most of us fans want the shiny signing when we really need squad effort players who we absolutely can depend on most weeks.
The problem is Horsburgh comes with a high price tag for the return.

I'm not against almost any signing, but the contract term and value needs to be commensurate.

If you want a workhorse defender with no punch, we have Dave Klemmer. He doesn't miss many. Twal doesn't miss many either. The economics doesn't make sense to add another one of these types on 600k+.

At 350k you won't hear me complain about Horsburgh.

I want guys who haven’t peaked and have a point to prove. No more has beens.

After watching last nights game it’s clear to me Latu Fainu is going to be an excellent 13 long term.

I’m very confused by members suggesting Galvin at 13… right now Galvin looks way better than both Moses and Brooks looked as juniors here. I think he’ll be our new Tedesco in this era, we need to prioritise his future and shifting him to the forward line at 13 is pretty much guaranteeing he’ll be gone next November. Bookmark that.

That pass Latu threw to Seyfarth was very Yeo like and will keep the defensive line on high alert giving both Luai and Galvin all the space out wide moving forward. Fainu also seems hard to tackle and can break a tackle quite easily and on top of that, from a defensive standpoint he can more than handle the middle.

However it’s clear the club have prioritised bringing in some senior experienced players hence the Jack Bird rumours. Whilst also focussing on improving our forward depth.

I believe if we do move forward with Latu at 13 we need to bring in some serious size to balance our pack.

I’m personally a big Corey Horsbrough fan.

A name I think about as well is young Cronulla forward Tuku Hau Tapuha who’s available to speak to clubs in November this year. Xavier Wilson from Brisbane is another name I would be closely monitoring. Leo Thompson from Newcastle another name I’d be paying attention too.

Big money players available to chat in November also include names like Ruben Cotter and J’maine Hopgood who should be considered.
If Latu Fainu was taller(like Galvin) , everyone would be suggesting he be a long term #13..

Not sold on Bird BUT there is a world where he shares the lock position with Latu Fainu. Ie. Bird starts at lock, working hard in defence plus providing some ball-playing ability, then Fainu replaces him adding even more skills in the middle. This also keeps him fresher than starting him so he doesn't get wrecked from all the defence (i don't mind wrecking Bird as he is already wrecked).

Do you wonder why you hold that view but two of the best coaches in RL have a different view? I believe he is a gem, sure he needs work but will be an impact prop. He will need a big off-season. Remember he also young for a prop. I am sure our coaching and fitness staff will be working hard on him.
Well I think he needs 20 days in a week , how come after nearly a full season he is still miles behind everyone else

Wasn't he injured during a lot of the off-season? The club imo is going to work hard to get him ready for the NRL. I think Miller will also work hard. We need to get these players through to the NRL not dispose of them because they don't immediately fit the template that we want. We need to become like Bellamy and the Storm.

I would be happy if we got all 3
Hunt and Campbell Gillard is a huge get and Bird just may be the help we need for the young guys , I heard he trains hard and is a team player , that’s a good start
I doubt Gillard goes back to the panthers , if we really wanted him it sounds like he wants a 3 year contract , not sure what it would cost us , but the slimmmy eels would have to put some money in

We don’t have the time , if this club doesn’t get finals football next year or the 2026 , we will be flooded with release demands, with the best backline we have had in years next year and money to buy some decent forwards for next year , we can’t carry people who MAYBE make

We're a development club. There is no reason Miller cannot improve in the off-season. We also forget many of our players are promoted before their time. For a prop, Miller is very young.
