Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Staines while no super star is a solid performer. He got wrongfooted in the last game (for Manly to score) only because his centre rushed out of the defence line, he is usually a great defender, a good kick returner, safe under a high ball and if he got more clear ball could burn most opposition outside backs.
Not sure how his centre rushed anything when he was playing centre at the time.

Bloody half of Forbes on this forum.

People keep saying Horsburgh is a big angry red headed enforcer, does anyone have any links to video where he enforces as i dont think he intimidates anyone? I actually think he is not the full quid.
I was at the Raiders vs Panthers game and I genuinely laughed when he pushed a Penrith player then walked off thinking he was a hard man.
It's a no from me !
Also no birds thankyou!
I watched the same thing. He's a cat

Why when on current form he’s a better prop than Stefano who we offered 800k ?
On current form he’s far superior than Royce Hunt or Corey Horsburgh who both want 600k, why take second best if we don’t have to ?
Or would you prefer we spend the same money on someone approaching their mid 30’s such as RCG ?
When talking recruitment you have to be realistic and most clubs in the NRL would be happy to pay around 700 to secure a quality prop such as Oregon Kaufusi, we are not getting someone like him unless we pay more than everyone else and that’s much the same for anyone we are looking at recruiting.
I’d rather we pay overs for someone with the scope to continue improving, rather than someone who’s best days are behind them.
Oh dear.

re Jack Bird...

I suspect we are hunting for a solid back.

I don't see where Bird fits if we maintain Faagatu/Staines/etc.
But we need a solid back, one that can defend and bring grit to the side.

I totally get the interest in Bird. He has a decent amount of experience and we need that in our backline.

Yet he has only scored 4 tries, contrast that to Justin Olam's 6!
Olam has hardly been on the field.
What’s birds total games per season?

He played 22,23,14 and 12 so far this year. So tapering off.
I don’t know, yeah he’s been good, and is probably better than what we have most days but it still feels like a retirement signing and he has Arthur Arthritis doesn’t he?

When we had our best run on front row, Stef and Klem; we were down about16 nil in 16 minutes.
When they were replaced the Manly points dried up. Just don't understand why?

Ahhh the big debate atm Hunt, Horsehead from raiders, and Bird.
Hunt NO we should be targeting his mate Uele
Hunt is just a lazy player comes on for 20 and is gassed after 10
Horsehead YES if the price is right if not tell his manager thanks but no thanks we are looking at better players( ones that don’t cry)
Bird YES he will add a lot of utility and experience to the kids in our side, yes I no he has had injuries in the past but after watching his game yesterday he was 1 off the few dragons that had a go, buying any players is risky but Bird if cheap won’t send us broke
