Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Would really love to get Nassar back hasn’t got much time at the chooks I don’t think but definitely has a future here if he works hard
I know from speaking to Mikey himself when he was over a couple of weeks ago, he wasn't playing because the Roosters are wanting him ready for this upcoming SG Ball season. He is in the Black Rooster academy there aren't many kids in this type of development program but Mikey has a heap of mates at Tigers it would be great for him to be back with us, the kid is a specimen looks like Sonny Bill his uncle was an All Black so those kiwi lines are strong in him.

Just imagine we had really good aspiring coaches in KOE and Jersey Flegg, who correct players mistakes and played just even a basic brand of controlled football. Look at all the players this year and a lot of their development has been stopped or dare i say gone backwards.

Rozelle
the best thing about Mickey Nasser as a footballer is his brain, he knows want he wants, and the Roosters will develop him at a steady pace.

You would think Gallant would be speaking to him advising he would be a regular in our Wests Tigers Jersey Flegg team in 2025 and pushing to play NSW Cup form dependant should he return.
I liken him to Cameron Kanaan who has made an immediate impact once starting to play Jersey Flegg for us.
Both are tall, fast, physically strong and run the ball very well.

My point is filtering our Wests Magpies NSW Cup team with too many of these younger players is undoubtedly hurting our results.
Quite a few rival NRL clubs, in particular Melbourne Storm, the Roosters and the Qld based clubs all have 2 senior teams to split their fringe players between, therefore if we followed their lead and used Easts Tigers as our 2nd feeder club, we could in effect strengthen our Wests Magpies team by not having to play all our young and not quite ready players with them.
Having two feeder clubs who are both winning their fair share of games at senior level would be much better for our younger players development.
As an example there is little doubt players such as Faagatu and Tumeth would have been good enough to regularly make the Easts Tigers team this season, rather than play in the age restricted Jersey Flegg.
I absolutely get where you’re coming from, but I’m in the rival camp. while I think teams should set up alliances with satellite sides for junior pathway purposes, I don’t believe that squad members from the first and second tier should be spread thin between two states.

it destroys cohesion and understanding between players, and it means that clubs aren’t able to monitor players in the way they can when they’re all operating out of HQ. if it’s a player or two that’s been loaned to an English side, sure thing, but again I can’t justify sending half of your reserves north for half the week.

it’s pretty simple for Faagutu, Tumeth and others. play well and you’ll be rewarded. there’s plenty of players that have been elevated from SG Ball and Flegg this year, hell even our two brightest Matts prospects played Flegg this week.

under Richardson we are rewarding those that deserve it. there’s no need to send them to Q Cup if they haven’t warranted selection.

I think they cant approach him till November 1st. Kanann is a good player but hasnt got the speed, passing and kicking that Mikey possesses. Its been a long running fun fact between my son and his mates how far Mikey is kicking goals from he is nearing 60m the kids boot was monstrous at 12 with his kick off restarts. Bronson Harrison and Shannon are massive fans hopefully they work their magic.
They need to tie up all these guns we have like Hayward, Onitoni and Makaseni these kids are very special and we have them and we need to keep them at any cost.

Fair enough, but if it works for Melbourne Storm, no reason it could not also work for us ?

Good players who are also very good goal kickers are extremely valuable, no doubt about that.
If he’s faster than Cameron Kanaan he must be rapid as I know Kanaan is fast and he demonstrated it on the weekend.

Are you putting in a good word with Mikey for the Tigers Rozelle?

Kanaan is very quick, Mikey is scary quick he is sub 10.7 seconds now. Being quick isn't his biggest strength running its being able to change direction at full speed, he has been like that since he was a kid I though other kids would've caught up to him for speed but he was very small till he was 15 then went bang he is well over 6ft now.

Thanks for the video.

Interesting look at him. I watched him play once live and wasn't impressed so I took a keen look at that video. He looks like a competitor and a good young player. Someone who could develop into an NRL player. It doesn't look like a video of a future star though when you compare the junior vids of players like Ponga and Sualii. Which is no criticism as those two are freaks, just saying he looks a reasonable prospect, not a superstar.

I think this guy is either his manager, a family member or is getting paid to get his name out there because all he seems to talk about is Mikey Nassar.

Nope ! A draft . Well 2 to be exact . A draft for existing players , and another for amateur . You’re not going to stop player hoarding by top clubs , but the issue isn’t that they’re hoarding , it’s that there’s no penalty/ compensation for the fact . High draft picks/ huge financial restrictions are the only way forward .
It’s amateur hour in the nrl … always has been
There will never ever be a draft. Why do people bring it up? It got defeated in court as a restriction of trade for the players. The Players union has stated they'll never agree to one as well. Add in the fact that the NRL clubs also run the Jnr systems, it means there would be no incentive for an NRL club to spend a single cent on Jnr development if their players went into a draft.

The only systems a draft works is in the US where the colleges and schools develop the athletes and in the AFL where the Jnr system isn't run by the AFL clubs

We need to know where Galvin stands before giving him the #6 next year. If he doesn't want to commit to the club long-term, then we should be looking to invest in Fainu there.

From his interviews, he seems happy and wants to be part of a bigger legacy
We need to play the best players we have for the position required. We don't have the luxury of playing the second or third best player there just because they are signed for a longer period. We need to WIN.
