Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

The last guy that stuck around for a rebuild never got the team to help him get there - and was made a scapegoat.

😇

TBF though - I see a lot more hope in our squad in the next 2 or so years, hopefully Galvin sees that too.
That last guy also took so much out of the salary cap we couldn't recruit much around him. And he served up trash and choked in every clutch moment

The biggest thing I got out of Richo today was we offload a few more players & sign 2-3 players...

We don't have 3 spots currently...

I am interested in Bird in how that changes the look of the back line.

Is Bird the utility we want? Or an outside back. What's the mean for Douiehi?

Sullivan to go?

Douiehi could be the odd man out?
Do you think we brought Turuva to play reserve grade ?

Oh? That's a new one. Wasn't aware he was in charge of managing our cap.

Choking at clutch moment has been our club mantra, it ain't just one guy man. Just like it won't be one guy who'll get us out of it.

But anyway. He's moved on and playing finals football and we're in the same place we have been for over a decade.

Galvin is a star, but he too will get found out if we don't get legit first grade runners outside him.

No it’s just winning , when u got much better players at certain clubs that’s the difference.
For example, soccer players join clubs like Chelsea , Manchester city , arsenal, knowing full well that they may not get much game time , but they get big wages and win trophies 🏆, there’s no culture there , it’s all money driven
How do you explain the Melbourne Storm???

I guess we will disagree.

Long live the pencil pushers

Haha another one...

Do we really need Bird?

Gotta be back row/experience/utility.
You had a crack and I thought “fair enough”

I’m still holding out for some willing alpha forwards to push the pack.

And assistants who can unlock the inner footy players in the squad.

A lot of footy players think they are underpaid and the power of club loyalty is not what it used to be.

This is true and in a perfect world we do offload him, but the cupboard is virtually bare in regards to decent or better NRL centres, especially ones that play on the right side.
The only half dec t NRL centre I can see available is Reimis Smith. I can’t say I’m really a fan of his, but he’s a big, tall body, faster than average and is a decent be Pugh defender.
Taking all that into consideration he is probably a player we should be looking at signing for 2025.
I have zero doubts there are better centres than him in NSW/Qld cup willing to play for minimum wage. Every other club finds these types of players, we have to do the same.

Wow, those two team lists are about as bad as we could hope for in our nightmares

If a deal could be done it would be perfect to allow our emerging players to grow.
Players such as Matamua, Tumeth, Kit, Sukkar, Faagatu, Saukuru and Feledy could all potentially become much better players if playing Qld Cup for Easts Tigers.
I think it's fantasy stuff to think players will just move to QLD on beer money for our benefit. Some of these guys still live at home with parents. Who is going to shoulder their rent and moving expenses? They already play KOE Cup...why would they move to play Q Cup?

I reckon Bird solves the 13 issue for a couple of seasons. We haven't really had a regular there and it's always someone playing out of position. Bird covers us for lock, second row and centres which helps a lot when reshuffles are required. That way you can free up Pole and Seyfarth out of lock and they can come off the bench/start in their usual positions.

14 will be Latu I'd say.

From there you need to add a prop and second rower.

I dont think we'll be able to release enough players to make room for more signings than that. Would be awesome to add a centre or winger with Turuva strengthening the weakest position depending on who is signed. Bird will not be picked at centre. Doueihi a slim chance there, but otherwise its reserves for him.

DT reporting Bird talks have stalled…good…I don’t rate him

He is looking for a retirement package. Last Sunday when running and stepping he looked like he was jogging up and down on the spot. Let the Dragons keep him. I would rather go with a younger player who may make a few errors but provides a whole lot more to the team without the sense of entitlement.

Very true though Imo there is merit in the idea I never understood why the club hasn't got a sister club in qcup and super league to help develop our players before reaching N.R.L level. Like now with Bateman we want his contract off the books use the sister club in England to do it. Would just need to set up a hub where all the players could live if they didn't want to stay alone but that wouldn't be too hard to sort out through the ceo and Meriton working through a project togeather.

I don’t think Roosters are as keen on Walker as people presume. The chip and chase is hardly the “Roosters way”.
Sorry I didn't see your reply. I believe the Roosters will be keen and he is an outstanding young half. The lure of a return to Qld could be overwhelming for him. Concerningly for the Roosters who would know this well, players will accept less to return home.
