Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Kobe Hetherington or Jack Williams are both too quality, too good to be coming off the bench and would instantly make us a much better team with either one of them as our starting lock.
Marcelo Montoya would add size, height, speed, good yardage and an aerial threat. He too would be a super signing to add quality and competition for positions in our outside backs.
Then we would ideally need one more quality prop with size and presence such as Daniel Saifiti or Regan Campbell-Gillard.
I think RCG is getting too old for his body shape and is in danger of his form falling off a cliff anytime soon, which would leave Saifiti as an obviously selection.

Behind a paywall by Corey has chosen to stay with Canberra which looked fairly obvious after the scenes on the weekend. Decision made after starting the last 3, effectively dead rubber games.
Oh well all eggs to the hethrinton basket, should try get that done as soon as possible
I'm only speculating, but I'm guessing our pathetic performance on Friday followed by Canberra's spirited win helped him make his decision. Hope Benji understands his poor preparation before a game and his rubbish excuses after a game only help himself sleep well at night.

Don’t underestimate what the pressure of keeping your position can do to improve players performance.
If someone like Doueihi knows he will be playing reserve grade if his defence is not rock solid, I reckon it will quickly improve.
He's had 5 years to improve it, and shown zero inclination to do so. He's a lazy player with a bad attitude, should be out the door but was yet another reckless re-signing on a roster spot we didn't have free.

Large and Makasini are 16. They can't even play first grade until 2026 at the earliest. We still need players in the meantime. Luke Lualii still needs much more development
They can play first grade next season.

Should they is another question.

It Makasini was turning 18 this year i have no doubt he'd have played half a dozen NRL matches, he's lightyears ahead of those who've been in our backline this year. He just needs to fill out and gain experience against non-schoolboys. How to tackle bigger players and put them on their backs etc.

Large being a little less physically developed, at centre he would need more time. At fullback or wing he'd be similar to Laulilii this year

We're stuck with Doueihi for another year unless the Roosters come calling for cover for Walker.

There is a possibility he's horrible lateral defence is to do with complications from the ACL given he had to miss a bunch of games post ACL. Usually they are better the following year. Benji needs have an honest chat with him and tell him centre is the only position he'll be considered for and he'll be starting in reserve grade to see if his defence is up to scratch.

His career is on the line and it's up to him to fix it, otherwise he won't be in anyones top 30 in 2026.

Agree. Makasini will be straight in when old enough if there is an opportunity based on how quickly Laulilli was put in.

In saying that can you think of another player comparable to him who is any better for 250k ?

Was being facetious....Bateman singularly we wanted to get rid of...a poor buy
,and Benji clearly played a role.To walk away from significant $ entitlement says something
The other 2 were regrettable losses, seeking more success bot importantly better coaching, which go hand in hand
Not good for Benji
IP was going to be bumped to 750k per year and Stef to 800k. 1.55 million in those too? I'm happy they've left.

Horsburgh staying in Canberra I think offers up a couple of interesting "Plan B" options not named Kobe Hetherington.

The Raiders KOE lock is Hohepa Puru- a tackling machine & leader of the squad at 22 years of age (also- former Panther). Not a big name get, but would be budget & is bashing the door down for a starting role somewhere.

Also at the Raiders is their interchange prop Pasami Saulo- very tall, good worker & good defender. Horsburgh staying, and a fairly settled forward pack in place- these 2 guys could come loose if the players were to look for starting opportunities.

I think u maybe 100% correct, so benji blow of a recruit due to his go and have fun game , no wonder we are where we are . Hunt and bird will pull the 10 day get out clause next 🤔😜

Isaiah Tass still unsigned for next year ? I reckon he be a decent get, upgrade on some of our centres . Did he play with Benji at south's and was richo at south's when he was there ?

Unsure about the numbers, but IP was the only fear factor we had, even if he did only operate at 70%
The only ones fearful of Stefano were 70kg halves..as soon as someone of size came near him,he disappeared..Benji clueless re how to fix him,but Bellyache will

He is not a centre. He isn't a back anymore. I think he passed the ball about 3 times all season in NRL. If he wants to purely run the ball then he moves to back row, and has to prove he can make 100m +30 tackles every week. Starting in Cup, if he performs consistently well in the back row in cup then he can get gametime on the bench in NRL.
If he plays in the backs then our season is over and our squad depth is atrocious.
