Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

It was early season before our starting side picked up injuries and we were fielding a high school team.
Yea u could look at that .plus not getting the rub of the green off the ref's.
I still think it starts at training, conditioning etc since we don't have a team of superstars .it amazes me how some coaches get the best out of no name players. Hence our depth

All that is important if you actually have enough quality/class to begin with. We’re still working on that.

They did plenty of that. They also had plenty of midnight video sessions to try and turn things around.
And still nothing worked.

The entire Wests Tigers brains trust submitting ideas and insights all season trying to correct a problematic roster.

The inner sanctum would have been torturous.

Not that they found a lot of answers but to his eternal tcredit, Benji has admitted to errors.

His recourse to rookieness is a bit off, but I have appreciated him coming clean on occasion.

Realising his shortcomings is the start to fixing them.

Can he fix them? I just don’t know.

Benji had 5.5 months of the off season to get away.

It will be interesting to see if he jets out again next year at the same time as a kind of self justification exercise.

It’s still haunting him as it is.

Feeding his critics as it were.

Even if it had no actual adverse impact, we don’t quite know, we didn’t need another own goal.
5.5 months? How do you get that? Why is a a short break haunting him. I assure it doesn’t! It haunts only some people here that listen to trash media. I don’t really care but he is not off for close to 6 months ever and his ‘break’ was a media beat up. Does he suck, probably. Do I give a shite if he has a week off, when the players are away, not at all. He probably works harder than most of us keyboard warriors. All coaches have time away mid or off season. If we didn’t suck you would never have known about it. I can’t understand people flogging a man for a taking a few days break, just because he coaches our shite team. There are plenty of other real reasons to be worried.

Stay up all night wracking your brains for what?

How to get roster containing 13 debutants to win in the NRL?

May as well get the Rubix cube out.

That’s their job.

Do you think we got the best out of every available player, debuting or otherwise?

I don’t think any coaching staff in the NRL did that.

Can they improve? Certainly, I hope they bring in some more coaching experience.

Was our roster this year ever going to win more than 7-8 games. Not without more luck with injuries and suspensions.

You can believe anything you want, it doesn’t worry me.

But I think he should have taken his family holidays during the 5.5 months of the off season. Preferably during the school holidays as well.

It haunts him because it’s seen by many as a selfish thing to do when the side was collapsing before his very eyes.

I expected him to work through the bye period. I was surprised to learn he’d taken off.

As a club member, i got the feeling he was taking his responsibilities and obligations too lightly.

All this rubbish about Benji’s holiday time during the Bye round. Really, people are still eating up that garbage.
As I understand it was not even a week away and the players are all given time off under Players Association guidelines so they can’t train. It is not unusual for other coaches to take a few days off during this time. Furthermore it was suggested that most did that. What difference does it make whether he gets a few days in Fiji with his family or whether he takes a break in Lilyfield? Lack of success at the Tigers has little to do with the number of hours Benji has spent working on improving our results this season. I’m sure he’s spent plenty.
We have far more important issues than this to attend to!

If you see no difference between Wayne Bennet taking a short local break mid year and Benji Marshall taking an overseas holiday mid year when running last then I don't know what to say. Agree to disagree

Craig headed to hamilton island one bye round this season and didn’t get any media attention.

His travel distance was more than double than Benji’s. Guess that was ok?

Benji problem wasnt necessary going away -- it was compounded with the fact that

1. He preached family over football - even though most coaches agree with this -- they still want their players thinking that they have to die on the field to win the comp

2. We were ill disciplined and horribly defensively -- which emphasised his carefree attitude

3. Our results were poor -- which again aligned more to his "time out from football" "play what you see" "lets have fun this game"

4. He is a first time coach -- that was given the job out of nepotism -- he didnt earn it like other senior head coaches that have done ten years plus.

5. The perception in the game that we don't train hard enough -- mentioned by players who have left.

It was all these things that made him going away look bad.

If Bellamy went away no one would care. Bellamy screams when his teams are up by 50 and drop the ball in the 78th minute.

The Tigers were performing poorly at the time, with people qustioning benjs work ethic and our teams performances which aligned with his carefree attitude.

If we started winning - then everyone would say he was right.

But we got smacked the next game against St George.

Benji has not earned the right to go away on a holiday mid season.

Jeff Bezos worked twenty years without a holiday when he built Amazon.

I would say this - if you had a player in the NRL who had never played before, and wanted to be an NRL player -- do you think he would have to work harder than the other players? Yes...

Benji is a first year coach -- who seemingly works less than the other coaches who have years and years of experience.

Benji not seeing that the perception is the reality shows either his inexperience OR his arrogance.

You can't ask your players to run through walls and die on the field for you IF you don't show them that you do that too -- does Benji say that? No. He says family first, footy second, most important thing is enjoying the ride.... all that is great but i bet the players playing for the Storm and winning are having better family time than our players because they feel good about winning.

Benji trying to be Wayne Bennet without the 50 years of coaching to get there.

He has to earn the respect -- not get it because of his name.

i wouldnt care if Benji went away IF we were solid in defense and discipline

I wouldnt care if Benji went away IF after our losses he said "That was terrible" instead of "I was proud of our effort"

I wouldnt care if benji went away IF his actions and words outside of that showed a complete dedication to excellence ON EVERY SINGLE PLAY... just like Bellamy.

and i wouldnt care if we were winning.

But i dont get that feeling with him. So i do care.
