Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

We went hard for Finucane from memory , and we almost had him . But wouldn’t go that final year ie. this year the one where finuncane has retired because he can’t go any more . For sure he would have made a difference , but I dunno . Tamou couldn’t change these guys , could Finucane ? I think the culture was rotten , and needed a massive broom . But to be fair we got really really really lucky this year in the fact that these 18 year olds could at least some times compete at nrl level . Could you imagine if we trotted out Wakeham and those types of career KIE cup players . Seriously ?
I actually think a broom through the whole joint and bloodying kids , might end up being genius . But geez it sux when you have to watch games like last week where it felt like watching 17 schizophrenic patients play footy . Especially when API went off .
Maybe they chased a few but rarely got them. Tamou was cooked. I knew when they signed Jimmy the Jet that they were just imbeciles.

It was that final year for Finucane . So we would have been paying overs to get him from the sharks , and then that 750k would have been absolute dead money this year . I think that’s what the idea was . But hey that was Harrtigan and Madge . Soo yea

You can’t put a price on culture change. If Finucane taught this club some professionalism he’d have been worth twice that. The Sharks are not a rich club and are usually punching with the heavyweights. I have no doubt Finucane (among others) contributed to that.

One more thing, how is Melbourne to Hamilton Island twice the distance of Sydney to Fiji?

3 hours Melbourne to Hamilton Island.

You can believe anything you want, it doesn’t worry me.

But I think he should have taken his family holidays during the 5.5 months of the off season. Preferably during the school holidays as well.

It haunts him because it’s seen by many as a selfish thing to do when the side was collapsing before his very eyes.

I expected him to work through the bye period. I was surprised to learn he’d taken off.

As a club member, i got the feeling he was taking his responsibilities and obligations too lightly.
All good mate, but we’ve been collapsing since 2011. We just have far far bigger issues than a few days off (as far as our players travel all season).

Feel sorry for you mate. Imagine if you could project plan and take a rest. Might come back and finish the project earlier with RnR.
Haha dont feel sorry for me, I own my own business and work when the work is there and holiday when I get the chance…and when I holiday, it’s a proper break.
I always schedule lag between my projects and have a close out crew, so there’s down time to fix any defects and finish it properly.

Curious, what do you do?

Sounds like fitouts or construction..

2025 the honeymoon is over for Benji. The club will need to make some big steps up the ladder for him to be around in 2026. He would know that and Iam tentatively confident he and the team will make those steps, but they will need to Recruit at least two more quality forwards and a strong assistant coach
What does that mean?"up the ladder". WE can't go any further down, unless an 18th team comes in.

Craig headed to hamilton island one bye round this season and didn’t get any media attention.

His travel distance was more than double than Benji’s. Guess that was ok?
Why the hell are you comparing Bellamy and Marshal? That is a weak arsed argument lol…
Craig has earned the right. He has set up his systems and they run like clockwork. His team just won another minor premiership.

Everyone makes errors. Especially rookie coaches. I give the bloke credit for his first season for a few reasons.

1. He brings credibility. Compared to other years the media has actually been quite respectful of us this year. I don’t count the DT gossip BS.
2. He handles media as good as anyone.
3. Despite having the least depth of any coach he kept the playing group together and won in rds 24 & 25
4. He’s shown an ability to recruit good players

On the other side, there’s clear deficiencies tactically but those are things I think he’ll learn, and like you said, he has owned this.

I’d give BQM a B+ grade and he basically achieved the results I expected.

Less than 10 wins in 2025 and he’ll come under a fair bit of pressure.
B+?..🤣🤣🤣 GTFOH!!
This season is an F.

The powers that be have backed Benji to the hilt and still do, providing for an extended honeymoon period.

If we get hammered next year, I think his departure will be handled with kid gloves.

The signs to look for would include less obvious and less vocal support for him by Richo for example. He will condition us a bit. He’s not there yet.

Because of our heavy emotional investment in him, I doubt we are going to shoot him in the back of the head.

All clubs tend to say the coach is safe before execution but it can be muted.

I think we’d all rather he succeed and a find a way.

I didn’t think he was the right coach, I still don’t, but I’m not going to pray for his lack of success and be cruel about it.

I think he will get at least another full season if the outcomes remain miserable. If we are getting seriously smashed, we might have to expedite his release, but we will offer him another so called “more important” role.

The lesson for us is one we never seem to learn. We continually oversell and then fail to deliver!

We are all used to it I guess.
If we get smashed in the first 7 rounds he will be gone. This is a competition. We cannot afford to come last every year without consequences. Even those that support him will run for the hills.
