- for batemen to play in the super league, the tigers had to terminate his existing contract another 2 years worth 800 and 850

- the club releases simpkin and kepoa from existing deals contributing nothing

- richo used this money as a payout to bateman to the amount of $450k

- batemen has signed a new year 2 year deal with the club worth $600k a season

- great business imo, helps with cap space but also helps us lure potential suitors with a reasonable contract

Bateman is paid out of his original contract $450k...this allows him to play in ESL in 2024.
We then resign him for 2025 and 2026 at $600k a season

If thats correct, wow!. Bateman is a shit footballer but a great negotiator...he doesn't lose any WT contract money, goes to ESL and earns half a year salary there too..

Hopefully makes him more attractive as an option for other clubs here or abroad. What a horrible contract, shows how incompetent mess our old management was

"What have they done?" doesn't in the slightest make me feel any obligation to justify my opinion: it's nonsensical and frankly would be obsequious to try....

Sheens was a complete idiot for negotiating a contract like that for Bateman and to make matters worse we had to pay a reportedly 250k transfer fee on top.I will always respect Tim for what he did initially at the club but he was a liability when he was sacked the first time and even worse now

1. I used to play full back - fact
2. I loved playing that position and have an increased interest in watching fullbacks more than other positions in the nrl - fact
3. I like watching Walsh and Ponga play more than I do Tedesco - fact
4. I think Walsh and Ponga are better players in 2024 than Tedesco - opinion.

I would say I'm sorry you don't agree with me, but I'd be lying.

It’s better then where we were at prior to this next season however I still feel Bateman’s figure should start with a 4 at worst a 5

I think it comes down to NRL rules. You can't release and then renegotiate a lower deal so we are bound to the original contract money that was yet to be paid. It was essentially a front load.

the re signing is a formality, the better word to use is we restructured his contract to give us breathing room in the cap

Hard for me to judge the guy harshly without having some clarity surrounding recruitment/retention discussions with player manager and Klem, Bateman, Brooks, Galvin, Mitch Moses. Sheens called Bateman the lead domino, but why?

This is a great win for us IMO.. Richo has done well here getting this done.

We offload him this year to reduce costs as not winning anyway and giving the kids a run, Front load him his money this year, have last 2 years on 600k instead of 800/850 and now if he wants to leave or we can off load him we don't get as big of a salary hit.

Just smart business IMO

Tedesco has been bog average this year . He turned back time on the weekend though , and reminded everyone why he was the best fullback in the world for a long time .
But like any fullback on the wrong side of 30 it’s really hard to continue to put out those performances consistently . It’s why a lot move to the centres later in life .
Ponga is a weapon , and clearly the best fullback in the game . The issue with newy is they haven’t worked out a way to integrate him into the attack , that isn’t at the expense of everyone else .
It’s 💯 the Ponga show in Newcastle for better or worse .
