Do you recall when footy cards started?

Started collecting mine from 77-82 had 5 complete sets with check-lists.......sadly threw them all away the day after America's cup day in 83 when they thre the magpies out.
I never managed a complete set. I was always missing 1 or 2 cards

I managed 2 full sets about 74 & 75 when flicks was big in the school yard at five dock primary
Had a few random ones from the 60s too including Roy above

Flicks was the way to get the cards you needed! Mt Riverview primary school, I think 77 - 79 was when I was collecting ... then it was not cool in high school, but my little brother could be "coerced", "encouraged" into getting me the specific cards I wanted! 🤣🤣🤣

Dr Google (aka Wikipedia tells us this:

"Scanlens is a brand of trading cards first produced in the 1930s and given away with packets of sweets and chewing gum.[1]

The first sports-themed cards series were produced in limited quantities in 1963 featuring 18 players from the Victorian Football League and players in the New South Wales Rugby Football League and Queensland Rugby League[2] competitions, which have since become highly sought-after, with some cards commanding a price of up to $2000 each.[3] The record for a Scanlens card is $7,200, sold in 2014 and featuring Graham "Polly" Farmer; its high price was due to a misprint that greatly reduced supply.[4][5][6] Scanlens went on to produce further modern card sets (sport and non-sport) between 1963 and 1991, many of which have since become collectors' items.[

Q.Which player was first to wear white boots?
Clue, he was mentored by Keith Barnes.
Not sure if you're talking about Graeme Langlands who wore white boots in the 1975 grand final against Easts. Chang, who was captain/coach, had an injection before the game that rendered his leg numb and useless and he had an absolute shocker in the first half. Basically, he couldn't run at all.
I worked with and went to uni with Steve Edge, the Saints hooker in that game, and he told me there was a mutiny in the Saints dressing room at half-time with most of the team wanting Chang to pull out of the second half with injury. He refused and had a punch-up with Barry Beath in the dressing room. St George went on to lose 38 - 0.

Really,

The first GF I watched as a kid and still remember guys running past Langalands to score and Rex saying as they did during the broadcast "Langalands can't run".

So dressing room fight do happen. Very interesting,

Was only 5-0 at HT.

Thats right Changa did wear white boots in 75, but there was a fullback who was somewhat of a rival to Changa for the Test Fullback spot, although he modestly denies he was. He and his mate were doing a shop fitout for my wife's employer so I invited them around home for dinner. Had a wonderful night talking about all things football LOL over a few even though the better half's boss told me "don't have too much to drink, they've got a big day on tomorrow LOL.
I'm guessing Frank Drake would be in his mid 80s now. A wonderful guy. Wasn't happy with Changa though after getting his 4 front teeth knocked out just prior to selection of the Australian team. It was a tour so he was going as a backup anyway, the job was Changa's.
Ah yes, the white boots? Frank had nicknames like "twinkle toes" Elvis" he openly admits he was a lair rocker hehe. He wore the white boots well before Changa did I think he may have been disqualified from playing in a game for not being in black boots.
I saw some of his games as a kid and he was lightning fast, probably not quite Irvine quick but he was quicker than anyone else in the game. His speed allowed him to be one of the first running/attacking fullbacks the game has seen.
