OFFICIAL Royce Hunt #298

1 Aggression ... which we lack in spades!
2 Impact ... which we lack in spades!
3 Size ... which we lack in spades!
4 Experience ... which we do need!
5 Solid defence in contact ... which we lack in spades!
6 Winning attitude ... which we need more of!
7 Eagerness to mentor our young middles ... which we need!

He may not look the fittest guy on the planet but I'm sure he'll be trying his hardest to get his level up to being up to produce 1 x 20-min stint in 1st half & 1 x 15-min stint in 2nd half.

I can't fathom some of the comments on here saying he'll be terrible without actually looking at where our weaknesses are, what he CAN deliver & giving him a chance to work on his fitness!

And we'll probably sign another middle who is a high energy, fit defensive beast making up for any of his shortcomings.
Well said! Ridiculous that anyone is writing him off before he has even started training, let alone playing with the club. I am very happy with this signing and keen to see what impact he can bring to our pack in 2025 and beyond.

I didn't mind Matulino until he retired. I'd switch Matulino with either Reynolds, Musgrove or Mbye to really drive home the point.

I completely agree with you,Matulino tried his heart out for us and when he realised that he could not perform anymore he took a medical retirement so he would not be a cost to the club.No way does he deserve to be listed alongside some of the biggest frauds we have signed because he had integrity++

haha yes my man you are right!

i dont take joy in pointing out the failures only the short memories we have of players who have questionable motives and ability.

Luai i love

turuva i love

skelton i love

all the juniors we have blooded -- love

so the club is doing pretty good -- but bird for 2 years and hunt for 3 - nope. both have 1 year too many on their contracts. and if they wouldnt come wihtout the additional year = you know there hearts arent in the club but their retirement packages

FFS he's not signed to be Payne Haas. Even Richo has said, we'll get 2 middles to make up for the loss of Stefano. He provides ...

you're asking a bloke who cant get fit at the sharks under fitzy in a highly competitive environment -- and you think there's a good chance he will get fitter with us?

I'm allowed to have an opinion.

Mine is based on a logical argument -- which says a player who gets gassed after 15 mins with a top 4 club -- most probably -- on the balance of probability --will be less fit with us.

Could you be right and me wrong - absolutely and I hope you are.

But I dont have to sing the praises of every player we sign that i dont believe will perform better here than somewhere else.

We have a history of this with players

And fans on this forum have a history of seeing things with optimism -- that is based purely on hope -- not on past experience.

The tigers bought him with the EXPECTATION he will PLAY MORE MINUTES.

Read the articles.

This is like EXPECTING Justin Olam to perform wihthout injury after the storm let him go for that exact problem.

I don't believe that Benji or our club can get Royce Hunt playing more minutes than he can at the shakrs without being a massive liability in defence.

AND MY POINT is -- he had NO other offers. I would be ok with 2 years for Royce Hunt. But for 3 years we stuff ourselves up if he fails in year 1... just like we are seeing now with bateman, klemmer, naden, sullivan, olam etc who have more than a year to run.

I’m simply saying Hunt ticks a lot of boxes for us and I for one am giving him a chance to get fitter in a new environment.

The bloke hasn’t even started training for us yet & some are already writing him off to get fitter.

The guy that really disappointed me was Tamou.

Poor Madge.

Twals a Plodder? - Glad you're finally coming around old mate....

Not to have a shot at you bud, But there's not much reality around these parts....
I've seen post after post stating how Hunt is going to come here,
Double His minutes, Increase his fitness, Gonna be some sort of revolution and Now we need to fix his attitude?

The reality of the situation is - Royce Hunt is 30, played Footy his whole life and hasn't played 100 games - Most blokes his age are looking at 200+
He's Been in the Dogs, Raiders, Sharks and now to Us....
How many changes does a bloke need to kick into gear?

I'm a fan of the way he plays
- But he does a very simple job, In a very short time at the Sharks.
Anyone thinking he's an upgrade on what we've lost is blinded by the hatred of the way it's all panned out.
I'm not against Hunt, But if we're playing him, a utility (Bird - Who I'm hoping goes to Lock), A back hooker (Tallyn) and 1 other on the bench next year
- they may as well give us the Spoon now.
Hunt just doesn't, And probably never will have enough minutes in him...
He's not going from a top 4 team to the wooden spooners with a culture as poor as ours and going to somehow get to $1.10-20
At 12 minutes a game, Hunt could extend his career to 40 and be sweet. I reckon we picked him up as a pup with his best years ahead. He's basically a junior...thoughts?

lol you think packer and matulino were good purchasers?

Hunt is coming to us with less of a resume' than those guys were.

what makes you think he will go ok here?

He's coming from a better coach at the sharks, a better team, a better system, he's only going to get older -- and he's with us for 3 years -- and he plays on average 20 mins.

Tell me please because you're obviously smarter than i am

@just old magpie - enlighten me too.
He's on much less than they were, he's not being signed to be a leader just to contribute. He's the second best impact prop in the comp. He brings a lot of attributes that we simply don't have at the club. We can't survive with just the likes of Klemmer and Twal. Surely you realise this, and that we're a laughing stock and can't just sign anyone we want. We need players who can contribute and he will. He'll relish the opportunity to play longer than 20 mins a game too.

anyone can relish playing longer minutes - I dont think he will be able to without being a liability.

I think he's fitness will go backwards.

And i think we could've waited to see what other props might become available over the off season.

i dont like Twal fyi.

I wouldve prefered to give RCG a 3 yr deal at $650 a year rather than Hunt a 3 yr deal at $450.

We're both guessing - I'm guessing he'll be a liability and we'll try to off load him before his contract expires -- you think the oppoiste. Let's see next year whose right.

He’s playing a role for Cronulla they require him to come on and make an impact.
When he comes here we are going to see if he is capable of getting more minutes until then do not wright him off.
Believe it or not but Richo is aware of the kinds of people you need to rebuild a club he’s done it a few times.

The issue is his minutes.
The attacking impact when he is on the field is top-notch.
But when he starts to tire, id have my wingers and hooker scooting from dummy half targeting him in defence... we need to do something about that.
