Onitoni Large to Manly

The only way he’ll fail is if the muppets on the board oust him.

I wish him all the best - I think the way he handled Galvins whinging mob was great. Just laugh at people who proclaim him to be some oracle who will definitely turn us around. The job may be too big. I think he did underestimate it when he made statements early on that this won’t be as hard as Souths was.

I think the club is a sleeping (maybe comatose) giant and we’ve gone from a clueless nobody to a ruthless guy who knows the business inside out. It took him 5 secs to close a deal Pascoe couldn’t do in 9 years (origin playmaker ) He went on a week long media whinge and got $40 million for LO. The Galvin stuff is only half done.

His health and his bosses concern me.

I know you want the best ..as we all do … but there are questions that haven’t been addressed…

He was under contract … so why not make him stay here one more year until the Galvin issue sorts itself out ? Just because he might not like it … too bad … make him play until it suits us to let him go … that’s what every other team seems to do … also it helps change the perception that the club is a soft touch …

The roster “space” is another issue that other clubs seem to be navigate much easier … why are they waiting to “offload “ players …? Some are on minimal money and can be paid out …
Mate stop it. Tom thats not how we operate. There wouldnt be a club anywhere that wouldnt do exactly what you have said, because its the only thing to do ffs. ,. Its like the patients running the asylum. I for the life of me dont understand how these clowns would think this any other way, regardless of what the player , who hasnt even played a game s demanding.

And then Latu Fainu is Luai's halves partner. I think we are missing that there is a genuine logjam of quality halves at the club & only 2 are going to play. We will lose some.
Bud must check his bank account 3 times every pay day to make sure it’s real.

So just make him play an extra year for the heck of it? What would that achieve? He's blocked by Fainu. What is your plan for Large? The kid doesn't want to wait around...the opportunity is there with DCE retiring. He's taking it. You would too. Stop sticking it up the club.
Mate i think I've made it quite clear that my plan for Large is not one more year 'for the heck of it'. It is one more year as a contingency given the bloke currently in his spot has asked to leave and may not stick around beyond his current contract. Yes, in his position i would also take an option that may fast track my career. I also don't think it is unreasonable to ask the kid to stick around for one year if it is true he is/was contracted for a few more years yet.

Larges management would just be saying if Galvin goes you’ve got Latu waiting, you don’t need us.

You make a valid point and probably right in your position. I have blind optimism thinking we couldn't be that dumb.... maybe that makes me the dumb one.

I’ve followed Onitoni Large fairly closely and I’m very disappointed he’s heading elsewhere, but he’s just making it hard for himself if he is classifying himself as purely a 5/8.
He is a great ball runner, but looks limited with his balk playing, he will make a much better fullback or centre than he will a 5/8 early in his career.
If we are talking about him being purely a 5/8 he is a long way behind Galvin and Latu Fainu.

I think fullback is the go turbo mite last 18 months - 2 years

Any kid that age should be open to learning everything. If they think they’ve arrived in one position as a teenager they probably don’t have what it takes. Hopefully he gets a good mentor.

Ok...so the club ballsed up holding onto a guy for 1 more year as a contingency. So you are ok with letting him leave after 1 year, but not this year. Makes no sense, but got it.

The current plan is Galvin and Fainu. If Galvin leaves, we have Fainu. No room for Large if he was adamant about playing 5/8.

so He wants 5/8 money in the NRL and he’s only 17…sheez…..let me guess his manager is Issac Moses…..

Thing is if Onitoni was at a stronger club he doesn't leave. The position he plays at 17 is irrelevant. Tolu Koula was also one of the games elite junior fullbacks, was going to leave but Manly convinced him to stay, despite not being a local juniors and not being able to playe good position. In the end he's a centre and seems happy. Large should have been open to fullback and a potential move to the halves in the future, he just seems lazy. Doesn't want to work hard for what he wants
