Onitoni Large to Manly

Richo needs to seriously explain what went down with Large leaving, none of it makes sense. Was he even signed 5 years? If so how is he gone and how are they talking about a Galvin clause. Evening then still not sure what the massive issue is with the clause. He stays for another 2 years Galvin leaves and either he or Latu get the 6 jersey. Galvin stays we have had the chance to show him a pathway at either centre or fullback. I assume the fact there is talk about the clause meant he was happy to stay. The silence from the club is deafening.
It's okay, I've called in some meddling kids to solve it

Danny Weidler’s column today …

Large consequences

The ridiculous clauses in Stefano Utoikamanu’s Wests Tigers contract, where he could leave if they missed the top eight, have resulted in the club adopting a new approach, and that has cost them rising star Onitoni Large.

Large, who has joined Manly, wanted clauses inserted in his contract that made him a free agent if Lachlan Galvin signed a new deal to stay at the Tigers beyond 2026. The Tigers no longer want to do deals that can come back to haunt them in the future. Particularly when the intention is for Galvin to be a long-term Tiger. It would mean they would have developed Large for another season or two and then potentially lost him.

It is Large’s agent’s job to do the best deal for his client, but the Tigers don’t want agents setting the tone for them.

It may cost them a player or two, but the feeling is they can’t be pushovers or they will never drag themselves out of the cellar. Taking a strong stance when you are running last is a brave move, but one they are comfortable with.
thank you Richo,4 cleaning up our past knee jerk reaction mess up,we may loose a few, what club doesnt

Not really my guy . I would suggest that the agitation from the manager , and the sheer audacity of the fact a 16 year olds manager is trying to dictate first grade starting position contracts was enough to cut bait .
It’s no surprise that he is leaving for manly , but I would suggest that manly definitely have recent precedent on ruining kids just like this Ala Schuster . It’s pretty much exactly the same situation except substitute us with the eels .
Not to mention he’s simply not projected atm to be a first grade half of any kind . He’s a supreme athlete , who uses that size and speed to make other kids his age look stupid . Well … he did . Except this year not so much . And whilst he showed glimpses of class in flegg when he came up , he was hardly carving them up .
This is all not say he won’t be an amazing first grade player one day , and an international etc. it’s just to say he isn’t right now , and he doesn’t even project to be better than the understudy to Galvin in Latu.
He was projected at 1 and centre here . And it’s going to be interesting if when manly get him they have similar thoughts , because this type of situation literally just played itself out with Josh Schuster .

This is a horrible story if true and displays the current road the NRL could go down if stuff like this continues.
Yes Onitoni is an amazing talent but he hasn't even played SG ball yet and to demand a clause which inherently states that he will play first grade is greedy and downright disgusting.
Now I am not putting any of this on Onitoni It was probably all his manager. But it just shows the power managers are going to play in the future.
If young talent begins to get this greedy it will lead to some shocking deals with clauses and third party deals riddled all over them.
I was in shock when I saw this and I still can not believe it ...
Glad WTs have stayed strong and advertised that we won't allow clauses like this in our club. No more being pushed around

I totally agree.

We need to stamp this out now and going forward.

One comment that really sticks with me from Bateman "Benji is treating the Senior players like Juniors and Juniors like Seniors".

If we allow our Junior stars to become Big heads and start writing their own contract demands, even before they are the "next big thing" then were doing it 100% wrong. Large hasn't played first grade.

They weren't hung up on Fainui.brothers also. Goes both ways User. Now that I think about it. Sounds like payback.

Yeah I hope we don't end up losing Galvin and ultimately having both of then gone. But I also wonder if Latu may have then become a problem for Large even if Galvin went. If we gave in here, what's not to say he does the same thing in 3 years when his contract expires but with Latu. Large seems set on wanting a clear and easy passage to the 6 jersey.

Hard to know where we exactly stand with Lachie...but I trust Richo to get it done.
1. Enough of the spoilt brat mentality. Sorry Large you haven't played a game of first grade. Potential, sure. But that potential is very very different once you actually face real first graders.
2. Pick well, accept we will loose people.
We picked the Fainu's, we are stuck with them for better or worse. Fainu's have played with Galvin growing up. Large is a part of a newer generation.

We can't keep both, with whom we have signed. "one bird in the hand is better then .... two unsigned players".

Since we actually released him from his contract and he wants to play 5/8 the club must be super confident that Galvin is going to hang around long term
I wouldn’t assume that we released him. Just remember it was tweedle Dee and tweedle dum in charge when he allegedly signed a 5 year deal. He probably had all sorts of get outs.

new coach wont change anything with kobe , their cap is cooked

large is a disappointing loss, the club was very confident in keeping him, siebold has basically guarenteed him a first grade debut next year

also sees himself as a 6, will be interesting to see if his brother follows suit
Which spot is he guaranteed to take cherry or brooks? What bullshite, this is the problem with the club. We should of nurtured him telling him we want him to start in the centres next season. So he doesn’t get injured, get him battle ready without breaking him early in his career. Then take Luais spot when he retires or moves on, or if Galvin moves on. Feed them bullshite like the sea gulls did.

They did tell him they wanted to start him off in the centres. Large wants 6 or nothing and wanted a clause in his contract to say if Galvin resigned then Large was free to go. We refused. Well done Richo etc for not bowing to ridiculous contract clauses the former morons did
