Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

How do Klemmer, Twal and Seyfarth both make anyones 17?
They're basically all the same non effect player
I'd keep Seyfarth, As he has a decent game in him now and again and maybe some upside development wise.

Klemmer and Twal are both easy beats
- And have long ago hit any ceiling they may have once had.
I bet Klemmer, Twal and Seyfarth would make the 17 at another stronger club, much like Garner and Eisenhuth who were both bog average playing with us. GF for them this weekend. Sometimes it’s the system not the player.

I think it was very unreasonable. It'd be like interviewing someone for a senior management position and having them say they'll take the job if they're guaranteed the next promotion. They would be out the door in quick time.
Except its not a senior management position. He's a rookie outside the top 30 it would be more akin to a junior inturn expecting a job after his internship.

Not that straightforward, is it?

Madge flogged the players, remember Jesse Sue half-collapsing, didn't result in ongoing success. Does Cleary flog his players? Robinson? Bennett?

Also cannot ignore the case of poor young Keith Titmus at Manly. Imagine if Shawn Blore has a medical incident because of that intensity.

I think people make real mistakes pointing to Craig Bellamy, arguably the greatest coach of all time, and suggesting that it's just a matter of replicating some of what Bellamy does, as if that was a simple thing.

Agree. Bit of a fallacy 2 suggest flogging them harder
or running 15 laps instead of 10 will somehow turn
Benji into the next Bellamy. Fitness wise we could
do better, everyone agrees on that but I think Lachies
comments about training and Benji being easy going
isn't universal. You have to cater to different characters,
personalities & players of all ages at different stages
of their careers. I'm glad he's been easy going with
the 18 year old in his debut year, might just be me smh

Are you saying he should have been promised the spot without earning it , who the hell does he and his management think they are to put forward such demands , i say good riddance
What spot? His alleged request was nothing to do with being given any spot but to have the option to leave if there is no spot for him ie Galvin remains at the club.

He demanded to play one specific position.
That is not only unreasonable... for a 17 year old kid who's proven nothing it's being up your own clacker so far it's not funny.
When did he demand that? He asked to have the option to leave if Galvin stays. Sure this suggests he probably sees himself as a 6 but he also knows that the 1 and 7 are likely to be unavailable due to Bula and Luai signed long term (and not reported to have asked for a release).

I'll bet you anything they don't....
And if they do, It's not because they're first picked.
There's no way so many low output, one dimensional players that play the same position
are on the Pitch at the same time - in any other team...

Every team has one of them in their top 17 - Sure...
No one is picking all 3 of them at the same time because of some recruitment master stroke!!

You may be proven right at some point.
I'm hopeful that both Galvin and Fainu further their development and recommit and we have no need of Large in the future. It's almost more likely than not one of them will. I just don't understand why release Large before it is known nor understand the rhetoric that he is selfish, arrogant, unwilling to earn his spot or the rest of the criticism I'm reading.

Every time I see Twal and Seyfarth in our squad, I just sigh and think we have no chance with crap like this in our top squad.

Yep. Training plays a part, but players won't buy in if the respect and runs on the board arent there. Can you imagine player morale if they were continually playing/training in an environment that intense and losing on the weekends? (Fitness was a problem, but they would have struggled regardless IMO)

I think having Munster, Hughes, Grant, Papenhauzen and before that Cronk, Slater, Smith, Inglis are probably more critical to their success over the last 10-15 years.

Comparing 2024 Storm and 2024 Tigers is like apples and oranges. Say what you like about Benji, but I get the sense he understands people and where the club is at right now. Flogging players till they pass out is not the way at the moment.

I'm looking to the future here with the inclusion of Johannssen and Miller. I have Bird playing off the bench as our the utility (back/forward) player. I honestly dont believe Bateman is coming back. Unfortunately Twally falls out of my side. Do we have a goal kicker, or are we relying on Api .. ??

Doesnt matter which way we mix it up .. unless players like Miller, Johannssen, Porter and Sione Fainu really step it up next season .. or unless we have someone else coming in to tighten up the forward rotation .. we look rather ordinary. I really do think we have another signing or 2 coming .. ;-)

1. Jehream Bula
2. Jeral Skelton (will be interesting see if he starts in the 1st grade or not)
3. Justin Olam
4. Solomona Faataape (i think he's done enuff for a 1st grade spot)
5. Sunia Turuva
6. Lachlan Galvin
7. Jerome Luai

8. Fonua Pole
9. Apisai Koroisau (C)
10. David Klemmer
11. Alex Seyfarth
12. Samuela Fainu
13. Kobe Hetherington (if he joins)

14. Jack Bird
15. Tim Johannssen
16. Royce Hunt
17. Jordan Miller

Sione Fainu, Rueben Porter, Adam Doueihi, Charlie Staines, Luke Laulili, Kit Laulili, Tallyn De Silva, Latu Fainu, Solomon Alaimalo, Heath Mason, Chris Faaguta, Alex Twal, Brent Naden, (??) Starford To'a (??)
Gee I hope we sign 3-4 more players that top 17 doesn’t fill me with hope for 2025 , forward pack is still weak

Good post. The man management Bennett possesses is so important as is the ability to change your management style to suit the audience. Modern military training also includes adaptability and flexibility.

True that seems to be the attitude today but totally disagree regarding that's how things are done. There is no way Large demands a first grade spot from Ivan Cleary, Wayne Bennett, Shane Flannaghan, Trent Robinson, Todd Payton and esp Craig Belamy. Each one of them would have told him to pack his bags like Richo did. His management saw us as a soft touch just like previous years. He left us to go to Manly who allowed it by promising him a first grade spot. The entitlement is astounding and can lead to major problems down the line. It's a shame to lose a talented junior but I totally back the club on this the players and managers cannot be allowed to dictate terms. It's a line in the sand moment from us that we should have done when Moses was whining he wanted out.
I believe a line in the sand moment is not letting them out of their contract. Showing your a push over, only let’s everyone think they can’t do the same thing. That’s where I would prefer our line was…

Agree that a system change can make (or break) a player.

However, Klemmer and Twal should not and would not make any team. I don’t think any system can help them.
Eisenhuth was terrible and still is. Very surprising that he makes the Panthers bench.

Garner on the other hand is quite penetrating. He was not bad for us and I reckon he would probably make most teams, at least a bench spot.

Do you reckon there might be a chance Galvin has already extended but the club are just waiting for a specific time to announce it?
