How many of 2005 side can we try to recycle?

Yeah, I know proof is in the pudding, but…
Good point, is there anyone who hasn't"come back"?

Hodgo has made a couple of returns, patty came back, Fitzy came back.

I think Whatuira, Skando, Galea work at Concord still.

Benji, Farah, Halatau, Fulton all went and came back.

Maybe Prince and Laffranchi haven't been back since?

An interesting question would be that everyone that has come back, how much actual interest was there from other NRL clubs? I can tell you no one wanted the trio of Sheens, Benji and Farah even as their 5th choice coaching team

You forgot Mark O'Neill was football manager at one stage

The club doesn’t publicise the sad fact that Hodgo’s coaching career at ESL was a deeply regrettable affair where the record shows he failed miserably.

Better than Benji, but that’s not too high a mountain to climb.

I’d like to know what effort the club put in to find the best candidate other than thumbing through the 2005 roster looking for a mate.

But when your first grade coach takes off mid season for a family holiday, I guess anything goes.

Richo should have made the executive decision to reject his candidacy as soon as his resume arrived.

The rank and file, we’ve had enough of these “miraculous” appointments.

Jon Wilson, he’s been on the snout outer too.

Are you submitting that we are successful now?

The truth of the matter is that the matey program we subscribe to is rancid and rotten to the core.

We got rid of Lee and Co yet somehow continue on with their philosophical program of promoting personal relationships over merit.

It’s inexcusable as a policy and my prediction is that it will end very badly. Not that we are travelling well now.

The number of applicants we secured after a world wide advertising- it’s seriously embarrassing.

All you need to do is look at Hodgos results in the ESL. He hasn’t just lost games, he’s been repeatedly smashed senseless. Week after week after week.

It would be hard to find a worse coach.

He makes Benji look like lying Ivan.

Now he’s our assistant coach?

We are kidding ourselves.
What? Do you just read stuff and then twist it to some weird narrative that makes you right ?
Loyalty and stability = results . You can phrase it as trust , you can call it staying the course … whatever floats your boat . The only way we will get sustained success is a genuine buy in from everyone , and everyone knowing thier role , performing thier role to the best of thier ability , and trusting each other .
That’s literally how Madge came undone … which is funny because theirs people on here now reinventing history about what actually went down .
Madge began to lose trust , that those underneath him / around him were undermining him . Because …. You know …. They were ! He gets rid of Benji , and Barton’s down the hatches .
The mandate for the assistant coach was 2 fold predominantly;
1.Someone with experience coaching . -With the amount of different types of organisations Hodgo has coached , I really don’t know how much more someone could tick that box ,
2. Someone with success and tactical sense to compliment / improve Benjis deficiencies - and I dunno about this one . It’s hard to gauge .Huddersfield have been absolutely mediocre for years , and from memory ( I could be wrong ) I remember hodge having them hovering around finals if slightly below .
It’s funny because the same set of criteria that crucifies hodgo ie. he didn’t win anything with a weak squad , is the same excuse being made for Madge .
I have no idea what’s true , but outside of Webster and payten , I can’t think of too many tigers old boys who have more coaching experience … which for good and bad … seems to be part of the selection criteria moving forward . I personally have no idea or opinion either way if it’s going to work . As it’s been really 1 season , with the youngest squad in nrl history . I’m personally sitting on the fence ! But refusing to death ride , because that wouldn’t put me on the fence would it ?
Just finally with the Melbourne assistants who may or may not have been in the running causing all this grief .
The Melbourne way works in Melbourne because they have next to no press , limited exposure in thier day to day lives , and as such means when they go to work they’re usually the only people they have / get to talk to about footy . They’re all from other places , so they all form an extended family and it galvanises . And as all families , a natural heirarchy forms. Which creates social justice , and peer - peer regulation.
It’s literally why the Swans are soo good all the time in the AFL . They’re mirror images of each other .
It’s why soo many players and coaches struggle outside of that system , because there is no family , there is no galvanisation . There’s ok escape as well . You drive home … “why are the tigers sooo shit” . You get groceries ..”hey coach why are the tigers soo shit “ …. You turn on the news “in other news , here’s another reason why the tigers are soo shit “ …. Your mate sends you a text “ hey coach turn on foxtel they’re talking about why youre soo shit and need to be sacked … “ and don’t even mention social media .
I don’t think it’s the same . There’s probably 5 real pressure cooker coaching jobs in the nrl . The bulldogs , broncos, saints , tigers and bunnies . They basically command 90% of all talk show segments . I think this is a variable and it needs to be considered .

Ok but…

Subscription to the old boy network has basically delivered us 3 spoons in a row.

Hodgos first grade coaching results were sub standard in a sub standard comp and it’s not even current.

And the club publicity talks about his long association with Benji as being meritorious and wonderful.

It doesn’t mention the abject failure of his specific performances, the fact that as a league coach, hes lost more games than hes won.

If want to be a top club, we should be out there and trying to engage people with contemporary experience with successful clubs in the NRL.

Don’t sit back and wait for a lousy 6 applicants ( more people apply for being a casual receptionist at my workplace).

Sitting around saying everything is groovy and everything will be Ok, that suits some people but it doesn’t cut it for mine.

Richo should have binned his resume faster than Tim binned the 16 applicants and then appointed himself.

Merit over old boy for me.

What are you talking about ? The first spoon was Madge all the way … that was his team . He was 2 and 9 when he got sacked ? So by extension , the next year is a write off usually because you have to turn over the roster - change concepts , strategies etc. compound that with the absolutely diabolical sheens appointment , which isn’t really old boys more like desperation to cling to something from 15-17 years ago …. The old boys is really only 1 spoon and 1 season in . Sure Benji ran the team ie. training sessions, but it was well documented he was instilling sheens game plan and what not . All of this compounded in sheens having a massive sook when the bozos decided to scale back his power / influence , with the Fulton fiasco .
This coming year is the year to judge this old boys thing . Everything prior is just data to confirm an agenda .

The fact the club statement said when appointing Hodgo that - we intereviewed 7 candidates across two countries etc -- means that they knew this would be seen as nepotism and they tried to emphasise that it wasnt goes to show you how paranoid they were about this reaction.

Sage.

And the other spin involved.

There simply wasn’t enough meat in the information burger.

The patty was made out of compressed free range lentils. Grew up to the sounds of folk music and Bob Dylan.

Euthanised humanely in farm pods.

Obviously the Balmain side of venture are still wielding too much power.

Ie. None ! They’re wielding sooo much power with 1 board seat ! Have you been on the cans this afternoon , or a few too many special biscuits .

The rhetoric was much the same when Pascoe was hired. "We conducted an exhaustive global search and received numerous applications..." Consequently, the Panthers became significantly more successful, and... well, the rest is history.
