Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I compare it to online fandom. i.e:

Piccard/Kirk was the best star trek captain ever
or
Wolverine would definately beat a nuclear bomb
or
Parramatta's 1981-1983 team is far far better then the current Penrith team that has won 4 grand finals. (as said by some delusional Parra supporters).

It's fandom. People on the board saw what happened in 2005. Benji, Hodgson, Etc can't do no wrong.
Which is a huge problem as whatever Benji magic worked, worked then. Now I love the 2005 gf etc but we can't just replicate that easily. Hodgson adds some value to the team but we should be looking outside for a coach to focus on both structure and tackling GRIT.
Based on his coaching record, Hodgo adds zero. We may well go backwards.

He’s just another snout in the trough compared to other much better qualified and experienced alternatives.

The board and Richo pretty much abandoned their responsibilities to fans and members in the process.

They’ll give Benji everything he wants and when he fails, they’ll be ready to shoot him in the head. They won’t take any responsibility, they won’t own up.

If he performs, they’ll be quick to claim his ongoing tenure as their insight and masterstroke.

That’s how we roll.

I was hoping Lees departure would see some kind of stepping up somewhere. But life on the matey still rules the joint.

No 2005, no ticket.

Can you give it a rest mate ! We get it you’re anti the boys club . Fine cool , but until you can offer any semblance of ideas and tactics to replace the current coaching staff then you’re just literally like a dog howling at the moon !
Are you bored ? Is that what’s going on ? Because you’re just repeating yourself .

Let them speak for themselves.

Do you own the forum?

What right do you have to tell me to do anything here?

Ask the moderators to ban me if you want. I’ll have to accept their decision.

Until then, as I’ve asked you before, please stop putting me down personally.

Rumour thread or made up bullshit ?
People make stuff up all the time . Sometimes they jag the truth , because a lot of the time the players that are being made up about are the same ones the actual club is looking at .
It creates banter and communication , like the miller thread can lead to other things .

You’re a serial personal abuser and I’ve asked you to stay away from me.

Is there anything you don’t understand about that?

Shane Flanagan and the Dragons are reportedly interested in Tigers gun Adam Doueihi’s services, with veteran playmaker Ben Hunt’s future up in the air.

Red V powerbrokers reportedly granted Hunt permission to talk to rival clubs, effective immediately for the 2026 season.

However, the SMH is reporting it’s looming likely the 34-year-old has played his last game for the Dragons, despite conversations beginning regarding a contract extension earlier this year.

Doueihi, 26, has reportedly been discussed as a potential target, with the Lebanese international a free agent from November 1.

Should the Tigers be willing to release him from the final year of his contract, Flanagan would reportedly be interested in recruiting him for the 2025 season.

The versatile star, who can play five-eighth and in the centres, is reportedly earning around $350,000 next year, signing a one-year extension in June.

He’s been plagued by injuries across his 94-game career, with an ACL rupture his most recent long-term sideline stint.

Doueihi looms unlikely to win a spot in the halves under Benji Marshall, with Jarome Luai, Lachlan Galvin, Jayden Sullivan and Latu Fainu all contracted in 2025.

Meanwhile, for Hunt the Dragons’ move marks a significant U-turn from the club, who previously declined their marquee man’s requests to be released from his contract.

An internal end-of-season review reportedly informed Hunt that his performances weren’t up to standard, and should the club get something in return, they’d reportedly be willing to allow him to depart before the 2025 season.

RABBITOHS AND KNIGHTS SWAP OFF

The Rabbitohs and Knights’ potential player swap between Lachlan Ilias and Jackson Hastings have reportedly been called off after talks between the clubs.

Ilias reportedly made contact with incoming coach Wayne Bennett, who gave him positive news regarding his future at the South Sydney club, according to The Daily Telegraph.

The master coach reportedly informed him there’s still a place for him with the Rabbitohs if he is willing to see out his current contract, which expires at the end of the 2025 season.

Bennett, meanwhile, has previously worked with Hastings in the Great Britain side in 2019, but he reportedly had no desire to move Ilias on.

The 24-year-old endured a tumultuous 2024 season, suffering a nasty leg injury in reserve grade after being dropped by the NRL side.

Hastings reportedly had one year left on a contract worth around $800,000, having also been dumped by coach Adam O’Brien.

Hodgo doesn't add Zero, lets be clear.

Hodgson is a premiereship winning fullback. It was also his football smarts not great atheticism that got him through as a player.

As a coach, I hope he will improve Bula's game. Particularly in reading the plays, tactics around the high ball and getting off ones line and try assists. Hodgson could do some awesome try assists in his day and really supported the dynamic play of Benji Marshall. Offloads were Brett's speciality and he could often get the ball out in a tackle.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want him as an assistant coach at all. We are far too inbred, we need to work on basic skills and structure. We clearly need to improve our defense and tackling.

^Hodgson adds very little to most of what we need.

Brett Hodgson brings a skillset of things we don't desperately need. His offloads are a nice to have and I am glad to have a fullback working with Bula. However we need stronger tackling and grit in our game if we are to start to climb the ladder. Brett won't be bringing that or satisifying our immeadiate coaching needs.

Hodgo brings something here, some useful skills but not what we need.

To be fair- Hodgson does bring coaching experience, from lower grades at the club, through to HC experience in the UK, to diversifying that experience working for both the England & Australian Rugby squads.

It's not like they plucked him from the fan forum.

I bet we would all be giving each other high fives if Ben Gardiner was coming back.

1 game as HC. Years as an assistant.

Who would be the better appointment?
