Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

The comment you responded to
Obviously, you can't just say we'll take XX player, thanks. But most clubs will have several players they're happy to move on. To suggest that we can only sign free agents is absurd.
The comment you responded to said "we can only sign what's available". I'm not sure what you think you're disagreeing with.

There's quite a few teams that are looking quite ordinary for 2025
Looks pretty similar to the side that Schooled us twice this year gone....
we any better you reckon?

Parra told Gutho he could pound sand. Happens every year.
Difference between us and most clubs is most clubs have spots / room....
We're hoping someone is miraculously gonna buy the 6 players the side who ran last doesn't want so we can improve...

My only real concern with Lualili'i getting the nod is that it is almost gift wrapped to him. That has been my one issue with the juniors starting- they didn't earn their way in- they got in on natural ability.

It's his position eventually. No doubt. But there is no consequence to not pushing himself harder, to improve etc. He's not 100% up to NRL standard, but he's likely given a walk-up start.

For mine, Benji would be better off using aging veterans & having the kids beat them out through work.

That is why I suggest Liam Knight, Joe Stimson etc. I expect they'll get beaten out over the course of their contract. But at least the junior player worked hard & won the spot. To'a & Naden, to some degree, have earned first shot at the outside backs.
He crashed through 3 defenders to score with his second touch in the NRL and showed great finishing ability on other occasions.

Runs the ball without fear.

Is 18.

Sometimes you can see the ability is there and you have to accept that someone else will give him a shot if you don’t.

I’m backing this guy.

He actually didn't earn it. Not at all. A handful of NSW Cup matches where he was error prone and found out physically. That and some part time training sessions.

He has a much higher potential ceiling than any of the others, but he was picked purely on that potential, not on merit or performance.

I'm not saying he won't get there but he was extremely raw and shouldn't have been thrown in like that
Rubbish.

There are more metrics to 'earning it'.

Well put.

In a year when not much was on the market, I'm pretty happy with what we've managed to sign.
So out of interest, considering players left, and trust me i wasnt a fan of most except maybe Stefano i would of liked to of stayed but was dissappointing espiecially 2nd half of the season. Where do you see us finishing with the players with have signed til date .

That's actually not true, and it surprises me people still think like this.

Each year most of the players who change clubs are under contracted and released early. It happens a lot. Clubs changings coaches, tactics or players needing a fresh start and a club happy to offload them.
So the key is to cast out a wide net look desperate to every other club and hope something bites

It's to target players who are blocked and make them an aggressive offer so they put pressure on their current club to get out of their contract.
We don't want to look desperate, that's how you get bad contracts. We went to be calculated and aggressive

No no no.

It was a comment base upon recruitment. It's who they are now.

One can't tackle, the other one has multiple rings and was a starting winger for the best team in the comp.

Poor take. Own it.
One can’t tackle? You do realise Turuva has a 74.3% tackle efficiency while Talagi had 80.6% this season? To put this in perspective his wing partner To’o was at the 89.6% while Tago was 88% Alamoti 83.7%

Based on statistics Turuva’s defence is quite poor compared to the rest of Penrith backs, in fact his defensive decisions resulted in him being dropped on 2 occasions this season by Ivan Cleary. Not saying he can’t fix it but a bit rich to say Blaize can’t tackle…

He needs another 3 years in Cup

Wingers tackle efficiency stats are totally useless for so many reasons.

Well there's a clear weakness in the forwards, particularly if we suffer injuries. Depth is a huge problem too.

The backs look competitive, at least on paper. Decent depth there.

If our attack takes all season to gel, like it did last year, then we will get a 4th spoon.

If we can maintain a potent attack all season, we should be able to achieve a 10 to 14 finish with the view of shedding some expiring contracts and replacing with better quality in the forwards for 2026.

I think that's the path we are on at the minute unless something changes with the roster.
