John Bateman #268

SHOOSH
Which player who has been shopped by his club is avoiding answering phone calls from his club or agent?

Johneh?
Well possibly …but not necessarily …we gotta few others that fit the bill…

Bud, Naden, Charlie Staines ..possibly Klemmer …Jordan Miller … Doohey ,,., anyone else I’m missing folks ?

You got it right with the comment,

He was not setting the world alight before we signed him and people thought he would magically arrive here and recapture his Raiders form.

It was a terrible deal at the time and is just another stuff in our recruitment.

I’m hoping those days are finally over 🤞

That's not true at all....
He had 1 good year at the Raiders, The 2nd was full of will he or won't he and a change of management I believe - Maybe after he discovered he was getting shorted.

He was really good in the WC games before he arrived....

IMO he was far and away our most undisciplined. Yes I know the amount of penalties he gave away suggest otherwise, but for me it was the type of penalty and the timing of the penalty that really stood out and hurt us so much. It often looked deliberate and it was on the 4th tackle just when we looked like defending the set. Real brain explosion tyoe stuff. They were truly horrible penalties. Combine that with a dropped ball at a crucial time and it just felt like he stuffed up at the worst times. The times when you need someone senior like him to lead, he did the opposite. He stung us too often.
He tried. His workrate in defence was admirable.
Can’t agree when API spent plenty time in the bin along with Sezer and also suspended , Johnny was behind. API , Sezer , and Seyfarth ,

there's more than a few who don't want luai at our club, even now
Haven't heard any lately.
At the time he was first rumoured to be on our radar there were heaps who didn't want him, mostly at the price, many due to his character. Cleary's comments that he was unproven as a lead half were true(ish) and we were/have made him possibly the highest paid half in the game. Since then he really stepped up in N Clearys absence and had one of his better Origin series. Seems to have won over his doubters.
Personally I don't think he can perform to his price tag, particularly behind our pack. Despite overspending I think he was a signing that had to be made. He gives the club some credibility and potentially is a draw card for other players. Additionally without him we'd likely still be running Sezer.

I agree with all this. Reading it, you’ve described my feelings to a tee.
If it wasn’t for his 2024 form Id be still down on his signing.
Let’s hope he carries it over.

Luai has stepped up for the last three seasons successfully when Nathan has been out for extended periods . It's no wonder he may have been miffed by IClearys comments.

I'm not convinced the relationship Is untenable just
yet, I'll be watching him closely Monday morning.
I still think he has something to offer & point 2 prove
i think your last line is correct -but its not with us,what was is broken beyond repair
