Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

If the club can move Sullivan & Bateman on, with the cap space available, I'd be trying to pay out as much this season as they can.

For example- we are under the cap now by (let's just say) $800k

Sullivan is on $500k per year
Bateman on $650k per year.

Club A takes Sullivan and we chip in $300k, they pay $200k
Club B takes Bateman & we chip in $350k, they pay $300k

Tigers 'save' $500k to add to the $800k, giving $1.3m to spend for next season.

OR...

Despite moving them on, Tigers pay Bateman $650k as promised in 2025 & Sullivan $500k as promised- so that in 2026 we owe both players $200k less & $300k less while not changing our cap for 2025 at all- either up or down. But 2026/2027 cap hits are reduced by the price of a pretty decent 1st grade player on $500k.

Short term pain for longer term gain. That extra $500k could fall quite nicely into Galvin's pocket next year to then keep him.

Would anyone like to rethink the Laulilli brothers early elevation to the top 30 to make way for the May and Hetherington etc signings. The boys could go on development deals which is probably their level tbh
if it weren’t for the fact that they’re close with Galvin and Da Silva then I would’ve preferred to see the back of Kit as opposed to Fa’agutu.

not Luke tho. he’s a freak. if we don’t sign a winger between now and March I think he’ll line up on the left sting in Round 1.

Wouldn’t this season now be over as we have ticked into November? Would imagine the financials can’t be back-tracked.

Shithouse Idea....
Unless we have 3 mill left from this years cap, (That expired on Nov 1 by the way) and they've already been paid?
As of yesterday, We're paying them for 2025.
- 300k to get them to leave, Minimum 200k to replace them with a player of lesser value...
Where is the sense?

The next 2-3 years isn't 'Short Term' It's longer than most of our squad is contracted for....

It’s a good point. If we have them on the books anyway and the only sticking point is the roster spots can we afford to pay them in full this year and sign 3 forwards in Fainu, Hetherington and May?

does anyone know if a one time lump sum to Bud to terminate contract goes against our cap? and if it does is it spread over 3 yrs, or 1 yr if we choose?
(unless the rules have changed) Any payment to terminate his contract would go against the cap. The club and player can agree on the payment amount and duration. If the agreed amount was 1mil for example then that 1m could be paid in one sum (again must be agreed upon) and be counted on the cap of the year the payment occurred. If it was agreed at 1mil paid over 3 years then it would be 333K against the cap each year.
Every time someone says 'pay him out' to any of the players being discussed need to consider that pay out value is counted against the cap. Say we did pay out 3 lesser named (cheaper) players that would be between 3-400k less cap space to replace them with. I'd doubt we have the cap space to pay out multiple players and bring in quality replacements. Probably could with one player two might be a stretch and 3 pretty unlikely I'd say.

No- I'm talking about next season. Still on the hook for both for 3 years I believe. So I'm suggesting paying full freight in 2025 to lower 2026 onwards..

Tigers are on the hook for them for the next 3 seasons. So either we pay the reported $300k or so for each to play elsewhere for the entire length of the contract or we pay forward while the club HAS the cap space to lower the freight in 2026 onwards.

I've not heard the club having trouble affording buying players for next season. It's roster spots. So I'm assuming there are probably the dollars invested in Papali'i, Utoikamanu etc mostly available- somewhere between $800-$1.2m I would assume.

I love ur accounting , but ur looking 2 years ahead of ur self , if we don’t go close to making the 8 , u can say goodbye to Galvin and maybe some others , 2025 us our Waterloo , trust me next year will be the making of this club or the dead off it

Yes great idea

Go back & look at that Harold Matts winning side.

Mason was 5/8.

Galvin was outstanding on the left edge in the second row. Perfect ball player to set up players inside & out.

Tigers HAVE to get their best players on the field, and Latu Fainu is one of their best.
I don't need to.

I've watched everything they've done coming through.

I'm aware of Galvin's ability in different positions.

It's whether he is or not.

I think we also need to put some pressure on them and there manager as well by saying you can stay but it will be reserve grade.
Happy to contribute to other clubs but not paying most of it.. Rather keep them in reserve grade as back up to the back ups.
