One of the banned HBG directors was bound to speak to the media. Come on down Rick Wayde.

FYI whilst the media is not great for our club, it’s a HBG matter not WT.

‘Nothing to hide’: Exiled director at centre of Wests Tigers’ civil war hits back after ban

Former Wests Tigers director Rick Wayde has hit back after receiving a club-wide ban, saying he has nothing to hide or fear amid a civil war at the majority owner of the NRL club.

One of the directors at the centre of the latest boardroom drama involving the ownership of the Wests Tigers insists he has nothing to hide and would stack his reputation up against anyone else at the club.

Rick Wayde is a long-time director of the Holman Barnes Group – the majority owners of the Tigers but finds himself frozen out after the board launched a confidential investigation into he and two fellow directors, Dave Gilbert and Tony Andreacchio.

Wayde, Gilbert and Andreacchio are all former members of the Tigers board but stepped aside when the club underwent a governance review last year that led to an overhaul of its structure.

However, the trio remain on the board of the Holman Barnes Group, which provides the ultimate financial muscle for the Tigers and has a decisive say in how the club operates.

An email was sent to employees of the Holman Barnes Group last week saying Wayde, Gilbert and Andreacchio had been banned from entering the club and all club premises pending an investigation.

The email contained no details of the allegations against the trio, but Wayde – who has been a director of Wests Ashfield for 40 years – insisted he had nothing to fear as boardroom politics threatens to engulf the Tigers again.

“I have nothing to hide,” Wayde said. “I would put my track record up against any other director either at Holman Barnes or anywhere else in the club industry for that matter.

“I am very proud of my performances. So bring it on.”

Holman Barnes Group chair Julie Romero declined to comment but referred this masthead to a message that had been posted on its website in reference to the matter. The post said the boardroom drama at Holman Barnes would have no impact on the NRL club.

The Tigers returned to training last week as they look to avoid a fourth consecutive wooden spoon.

“The Holman Barnes Group confirms it has commenced a confidential investigation into the alleged conduct of three individuals who held directorships on the board,” it read.

The Wests Tigers board is at war again.

“The investigation follows the chair being made aware of the alleged conduct which, if established, may give rise to breaches by the directors of their obligations as members or directors of the group.

“All members, including directors, are expected to adhere to the standards, policies and obligations set forth in the group’s constitution and by-laws.

“The investigation is being conducted by an external third party. Under the constitution, the directors involved have an opportunity to respond to the allegations against them before any final decision is made.

“While this process is ongoing, the directors in question have been suspended from all privileges of membership. The group will not comment further on this process prior to its conclusion out of respect for those involved.

“The group’s priority is to ensure confidentiality and respect for its community, members, and observing due process. The investigation is a Holman Barnes Group board matter and does not impact the football department at Wests Tigers.”
They are morons.

The constant damage they do to the Wests Tigers brand directly harms the football department. Our ability to climb off the bottom of the ladder will rely upon the club losing the laughing stock reputation.

One disaster after another this mob.

I'd trust Rick Wayde over most of the directors at the club. He was instrumental in keeping the Wests Magpies in the then NSWRL back in the mid 80s when the powers that be first tried to boot them from the competition. He did the hard yards to raise money, pounded the pavement in protest marches, helped get some good club sponsors & did countless media interviews and more whilst holding down his day job.

He would for sure have the same passion in trying to steer the Wests Tigers to success & wouldn't do anything to jeopardise the club or bring it into disrepute.

Hardly mate. These are the 3 directors who are supporting the governance changes. This is not a minor issue
100%! This is Julie Romero's pulling the strings. She is clearly backflipping on the recommended changes and trying to gain back control with her sidekick Dennis Burgess. These two will continue to hold Wests Tigers back whilst they are involved with HBG group.

Did Wayde give himself up - with running to the press, and it seems to be the same press that used to run all those stories on us
Any other ways to put pressure back onto the idiots behind the wheel ?

I suspect we may be down to public pressure at the only vehicle left. We may have to all start to apply the blowtorch to them soon.

Not really what I was getting at....

It's another Story about WT's that's come from the same place the Old Stories used to come from,
But this time there's a Director named (As the Story is about him)
Surely that relationship isn't new?

So it seems the directors that agreed with the report and stood down are now ostracised by the clowns who didn’t agree with it.
Which was the fear back when the leadership changed soon after the review, and low and behold nearly a year later.
Their is an agenda and whatever it is it's not transparent in relation to Wests Tigers as it now stands and/or based on the outcome of the review.

That sounds right. It’s mostly the good people who get the boot because they’re doing good.

No Finals since 2011 and 3 x Wooden Spoons in 2022, 2023 & 2024, the Wests Tigers club need to hand in their NRL1st Grade Licence! Only 14 wins in three years with the final straw having over 60 points scored against them by the 2nd last team in the final 2024 battle for the spoon game.
Wests Tigers supporters please consider your thoughts before making any of the following responses:
1. I will be a supporter for life regardless of performances
2. We will be better next year in 2025
3. The club deserve to be in the NRL because the joint-venture teams Balmain & Wests are original clubs from 1908.
4. Plenty of other clubs have won Wooden Spoons.
4. The club has great Junior talent coming through the grades
5. Have you forgotten 2005?
Whilst I admire the club bringing in Richo to try and turn things around, the Wests Tigers need to just put a team in the NSW Cup (to appease current fans) and give their Licence back to the NRL where they can allocate a new licence to e.g.a QLD Cup side or another identified side from NZ, WA or Papua New Guinea etc. There are far too many sides from Sydney and surely Tigers supporters are so tired of seeing their club ridiculed in the media year after year as a result of officials making decisions bordering on lunacy.
Watching the WESTS TIGERS play in the NSW Cup would be more enjoyable where they may perform better and make finals (though not a given). If I were Wests Ashfield I would make a board decision for 2025 and refuse any further funding of the team in the NRL1st Grade.
Maybe private ownership is the only way out?
I am fully aware this post is full of negativity and supporters on this site are loaded with positive thinkers, but surely I am not the only fan who has finally put up the sign "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH "!
Another dagger to the heart of Wests Tigers supporters with the threat of 5 players being sacked before a ball is kicked in anger! To quote a famous line from the movie Ben Hurr "it goes on Judah it goes on"! PS: Throw in the couple of Club stalwarts/Directors who have been banned from entering Wests Tigers associated clubs?
