Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

you’re not a realist mate . You’re depressed . Realism = who knows if Benji can coach or can’t . If he can we win and it all turns around , happy days . If he can’t then we piss him off for someone who can. But not a person on here , has any idea about anything . The best we can do is speculate .
You can chose to take the most extreme and polarise yourself if you want . It it’s your choice .
But just because someone isn’t talking about all the things we can all see , doesn’t mean we don’t see it , and it isn’t the elephant in the room . It’s that once again , what is the point of stating the obvious , or even focusing on it and interpreting that in the most negative way possible .
Myself personally while I may be critical on here at times it doesn't mean I don't have hope for next year... And I'd say we all do otherwise why would we still be here.
The beauty of sport is that 2% of you just never know

What is ? The fact you’re a perpetual death rider , or the idea that it’s hard to work out if you’re here for the drama or not ? As for the getting behind Benji stuff . Well that’s about your own headspace . Which depending on how you view that , will determine how you answer the first 2 points .
Who knows if the guy can coach . What u do know , is a select few of you on here , have been death riding the guy from the jump . So what’s that about ?
None of us are death riding him. We all want him to succeed it's just that many of us doubt that he can. Although you are right in that we don't know what happens at training and if he can actually coach there is solid foundations for those doubts. He lacks experience. He has been involved in the coaching of 2 spoons. He couldn't get the best out of any of the senior players and a known conflict with at least one. Couldn't convince Utoikamanu or Papali'i there was a future here with other lesser names also walking out and even more not committing their future here.
Of course there is the chance that despite the optics he could become a great coach and turn the club around. It seems unlikely and there is nothing wrong with stating that. However unlikely we may believe it to be, it doesn't mean we don't hope that he can.

there’s not much doing. he’s probably the best on the market for what we need.

furthermore it’s a good signing. he’s proven in first grade, a defensively minded 13 with high legspeed and is ready to take the next step in his career as he enters his prime.

there’s guys like Duncan, Butcher, Brandon Smith and McInnes on the market but I think there’s less questions around Kobe than any of those I mentioned.
Have you totally drawn a line through Matamua jr? Keeping in mind he is only 21 and I know we need someone for the now but I thought he showed glimpses last year. We didn't have the luxury of a ball playing lock considering how consistently we were getting rolled in attack and defence. Needs to add more tenacity aggression in his running game and tackling but I think he can be a useful player IF we nab 1 or 2 more decent props and our outside backs yardage game is as promised.

You've watched way more of him through the juniors and for the magpies than me, is he a lost cause?

For every point/ argument directed at Benji -Maguire experienced coach" suffered equal level of criticism - failing to improve the squad past it, over trained, old school blah blah. And who you ever support or don't support between the two the old "yeah but he had a stronger squad arguement comes up"
The issue is the lack of quality first and foremost in the team and the loser mentality that is ingrained throughout the whole club including off the field - history will show prior to Maguire/ Benji that attracting and retaining players is difficult and we have a talent for lumping our coaches with dud contracts that are near impossible to offload.

It's a fair argument. And the best teams are built on those types of players.

The key there is what we put around him as you said.

I can see him slotting into a number of well-built packs and doing a great job.

At the moment, with our pack looking the way it is, it's hard to see the forest for the trees in terms of where, when and how we're going to fill out the rest of the pack, so KH's value to our pack, as a prospective unit, is difficult to gauge.

As I said earlier though, he improves our pack immediately, regardless of longer-term plans.
it's probably the most important free agency window we've had in years because we have to get the pack right. everything else is just about in place.

Samuela, Pole, Sione and Johannssen are all at varying levels of their development curve. guys like Twal and Seyfarth are toilers, but necessary to a degree. Hunt, Bird and Klemmer are short term plays and is reflected in their contract lengths. Moors, Godinet, Duncombe and Havea will filter thru in due course.

I think adding guys like May and Hetherington to that first crop ensures that you can phase out the short termers and ensure you're not placing any pressure on the kids.

problem is if you miss out, there's next to nothing else on the market. crucial times ahead.

super talented in terms of his technical skill but his lack of mongrel on both sides of the ball counts against him.

I think in a good system with a tough coach he’d be sensational, he’s just not going to get that here. would love to see him under Bellamy or Flanagan.

this is great news for WT. if Canterbury chase Hunt then it reduces their ability to outbid us for May.

furthermore, with Hunt out of the equation for Brisbane it could mean Madge opts for his old mate Adam Doueihi, and we could swap him for Kobe.
Stop writing so many correct posts before I get the chance to say exactly the same thing.
