Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

wait, WHAT
3 years.
1 - 550k
2 - 650k
3 - 700k
4 - Club Option

Performance Bonus for SOO selection and top 8.

Why on earth do we want to snooker ourselves? If anything we should front load any deal if we can.

Strongly prefer 2 years with a 3rd club option. Stuff this 4 year business unless that's the only way we get the player

(I suspect players want to sign up for 4-5 years because if they get a serious career injury they can fall back on insurance and say "I had a 4 year contract and would be earning XXX,XXX).

May clearly has something that Easts wanted to ditch. ? Did he disagree with Robbo as the skuttlebut suggests? Is he playing in a high performance way, but a way that doesn't win games? ...

OR perhaps Trent Robinson can't actually pick a side. I mean his big pics have been Suallii, which is a nobrainer. Loosing JWH, etc may just be the start of the end of a top 4 side?

Newcastle were paying part of his salary the first two seasons which is why the first two years are less.

Bulldogs having a spine of Papenhuyzen, Burton, Mahoney and Ben Hunt is very possible and could be a premiership winning spine in the next 2 years. They're on the up. Patience pays off, but so days buying lol
Papenhuyzen is excellent if fit - which is a massive "if" at this stage.
Burton is ok but hardly a game changing creative force.
Mahoney is a tackling machine with almost no attacking spark.
Hunt might have a year left as a better than average NRL half, but his form in 2024 suggests he also might not.

If you'd rather have that than Bula, Galvin, Luai and Koroisau (with Da Silva and Latu Fainu in reserve) for 2025 and 2026 you need your head examined. You'd take Papenhuysen, obviously, but it would be a gamble. I wouldn't swap any of the others and in fact I'm not absolutely sure I wouldn't take our third half over their best.

I think the Dogs are dangerously close to regressing.

No guarantee Hunt signs there over the Roosters, Burton is just not the player he was advertised to be & Paps...he's as good to miss as many games as play.

They might have shown some decent progress, but I don't necessarily see the quality coming through the grades to take them the next step.

Ben Hunt at 36 y.o. will bring the Bulldogs their first premiership since 2003....

Zero clue!

Well said sir!

The millennial "goated" morons heads do indeed bear urgent examination!

Unfortunately there is zero chance of Klemmer playing 14 games especially if we sign May. Pole, Hunt, May, Twal are all better players. Seyfarth and possibly Sione Fainu will also get a run in the middle. He contract clause is strange no club will lock themselves into another year for an ageing veteran slowing down on big money.

IMO, Burton is an centre, Mahoney is overrated and Hunt I just can’t see ever winning a comp. Don’t forget, old Father Time isn’t on his side.

A good team yes, but a premiership threat - no.

I don’t buy that Paps has ever fully recovered. The same injury is what killed the career of Tuiaki and Yow Yeh years ago.

Yes he reports he feels great etc but I think you need to consider that what he’s saying could be BS - which I’m calling.

He’s one big collision from being finished. He’s a pass for Tito.

Pappy days for Dogs?
The Bulldogs would have been the best home for Terrell May, but the club has informed his agent they won’t be making a play for him. Instead, they have been putting the finishing touches on a two-year extension for one of the best buys of 2024, Bronson Xerri.

The chat around Ryan Papenhuyzen has gone quiet and it appears it is now a race in two between the Storm and Bulldogs when his deal with Melbourne expires at the end of next season. The easy and safe option for Papenhuyzen is to stay put – even on a short-term deal. The issue for Melbourne since signing Stefano Utoikamanu is their inability to pay Papenhuyzen what he is on now.

That's both the Dragons & now the Dogs pulling out on May. Our verbal offer must have been better or the Eels are a smoky but I doubt they would have enough in the cap after buying the Fox.

As far Latu getting a breach notice. Good, sets the tone, we paid the bloke $500k last year for a handful of games as we managed his hammy, in return he can turn up in shape.

If Sione re-signs we know we won't have an issue with the brothers.

Bateman is the main issue which has gone quiet.

I still believe 2 more at least of the current 29 are moved. Bateman plus 1 or 2 of the unfit mob.

Hopefully in the background we have offers in for Kobe Hetherington & Teig Wilton.

Latest report is Thompson (Leo) is set to sign on for 26 season, they might be keeping some up their sleeve this year in case early releases come about for Thompson and Paps.

I would be extremely surprised if the Storm let Paps go early … they are trying to win another premiership in 2025

Hunt is past his best and will be 35 around the season start. I think age will catch up with him pretty quickly in the next year or so. He relies on his running threat more so than DCE.

Paps is a great player when he's on, but Melbourne have done a great job of protecting him from more head knocks. Not sure the Dogs will be able to do that.

Who else got breach notices? Haven’t read any names thus far. Thanks
