Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Weidlers’s SMH column today:

Oh brother

Rising star Latu Fainu is one of five players who received a breach notice from Wests Tigers for his fitness not being up to scratch when he returned for pre-season training. He was poor in a time trial and will need to explain himself.

The problem for the Tigers is twofold with Fainu. First, he has been getting mixed messages, with some at the club telling him not to worry about it. Secondly, the Fainu brothers – Latu and Samuela signed long-term deals with the Tigers in 2023, joining Sione, who had signed the year before – are significant figures in the joint venture’s plans to turn the club around. And if you upset one you risk having an issue with all three of them. The Tigers are only focused on standards, however.

Papenhuyzen is excellent if fit - which is a massive "if" at this stage.
Burton is ok but hardly a game changing creative force.
Mahoney is a tackling machine with almost no attacking spark.
Hunt might have a year left as a better than average NRL half, but his form in 2024 suggests he also might not.

If you'd rather have that than Bula, Galvin, Luai and Koroisau (with Da Silva and Latu Fainu in reserve) for 2025 and 2026 you need your head examined. You'd take Papenhuysen, obviously, but it would be a gamble. I wouldn't swap any of the others and in fact I'm not absolutely sure I wouldn't take our third half over their best.
You wouldn't take burton over fainu? Crazy

No one is bigger than the club and I am a passionate Sam Fainu fan.

I thought Latu looked a little bit lard arse this year. Good. Lose some weight fat boy!

I’m more concerned about mixed messages within

That is so tigers

Some coaches saying don’t worry

Others being hard

We need consistency in messaging or players will lose respect if the whole coaching department in no time
