Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Just thinking though if Wilton was offered a here for say $400k, Sharks may see value in swapping him for Bateman if we cover $300k of his $650k. Value being not only a few $$$ but someone who has won premierships albeit in ESL. May be clutching.
Forum wishful thinking again. "Hey, if you're letting [good player] go maybe we can sweeten the deal by having you take the contract of [bad player] off our hands at the same time. It's a win-win (for us)."

with a few upgrades in order for guys like Galvin and Samuela I don't anticipate we'll have heaps of cash leftover for a well-paid backrower.

I think we'll be looking for a moneyball type at $400k and under.
Well that is Seyfarth.
I don’t believe Harrison Hassett offers anymore than the likes of Sukkar and Tumeth, I think we are barking up the wrong tree with him as a solution.

depth chart for 2026 currently runs as follows.

Samuela
Seyfarth
Bird
Broederlow (Development)

Seyfarth's extension should be a formality. Sukkar's got a CO, Porter's off contract as well.

even if it is Seyfarth as you mention, we need at least two more edge forwards. one needs to be putting pressure on the starters at absolute minimum. the other needs to be a prospect or solid depth piece.

I agree, but there is not much available for the price we are wanting to pay.
Dylan Egan is a very good option I know you have mentioned, but he’s highly regarded by the Dragons, won’t be easy getting him away from them.

As if any club would want to take Bateman of our hands,he has played for 2 clubs in the NRL and had a toxic relationship with BOTH coaches to the point that he left both clubs under emnity. Our problem is he is still contracted to us for 2 years, even the last 2 clubs he played for in the UK don't want him back

Lachlan Ilias officially released from the Rabbits, set to sign with Dragons today.

So that leaves Rabbits with no backup outright halfback behind Lewis Dodd for the coming season. They have options for 5/8 like Schuster, Humphreys, Wighton & Gray if Cody Walker moved to half.

But I hope they have a look at Bud Sullivan & consider a 250k:300k split with us for him for 3 years.

Bud deserves game time too, shame to wilt away

Egan's behind Leilua, Su'a, Faitala-Mariner and they will likely prioritise Halangahu and Stanley-Traill above him.

I think he'd jump at the opportunity.

guys i have to eat my words -- i have been massively critical of royce hunt signature -- because he doesnt play big minutes but i went back last night and watched like 10 games of him -- just cutting to the parts where he gets on the field and i'm pretty excited by him. still worried about the 3rd year of his contract -- but the sharks put on lots of points when he comes on. so i just want to repent for my sins. lol.

If he's that highly regarded why is he 6th in line and has two other players being prioritised over him ?
Su’a and Leilua are both on big money contracts, so it’s not easy for a young up and comer to take their position.
The even younger players JR is referring are both very highly regarded and I believe they have long term contracts with the Dragons, so they could be prioritised because of it.
I watch a fair bit of NSW Cup and Dylan Egan was no doubt one of the better edge back rowers in the competition in 2024. Plenty to like about him as he plays tough and with aggression, but still has a bit of brilliance in his attack as well.
Of course it’s a safer bet recruiting more established NRL players, but as many have mentioned, it’s unlikely we will have a lot of money to keep spending once we upgrade Galvin and a few others.

none of this to say is that he’s a bad player. to give you an idea, 24 games, 7 tries, 11 linebreaks, 96% tackle efficiency in his first full year in Cup. that’s a pretty fair effort.

the first three I mentioned are proven first graders, so they naturally have the jump on him, while Halangahu is one of the most decorated Schoolboy footballers of the past five years and Stanley-Traill’s on a long-term deal.

it’d be a good deal for us to make. for mine he’s a better player than Sukkar with a higher ceiling than Porter and Bird at his current age. that makes him a decent target.

I was reading an article on Hunt.Dolphins v Bronco money.Good 2c that the nrl nominal fee still stands, but taken by surprise with the line, in the final year of their career a player can be paid off the salary cap as part of their transition to retirement.Still learning something every day
So that means he can not change his mind and play another year,
Even if he was still in top class form.
Transition to retirement means it’s a fixed in date.

He wants to win a comp. He won't go to the Dolphins.
The Dolphins are way better than people are thinking.

Adding Saifiti, Finefeuiaki, Tupou & Fagai along with Hunt, while getting Flegler & Gilbert back in their pack....with Hammer, Farnworth, Katoa, Isaako, Averillo, Bostock, Kaufusi, Lemuelu, Marshall-King, Bromwich, etc.....

They are a very strong squad- with the addition of a top class #7.

Yeah was thinking he had the right shape, fitness, movement but I haven't seen him play a lot
Tim Johannssen is a lot bigger and stronger than most think .. he is very athletic for a guy of his size .. played number 8 in the Knock on effect cup .. but he is more suited as running edge back rower ..he'd be perfect to pack in the 2nd row with Sam Fainu .. both tall athletic players. Johannssen isnt afraid to the hard work either in running the ball up like a prop. I really hope Tim progresses this year as full time 1st grader. (he's around 195cm and 100Kgs) but with a full preseason with the NRL team under his belt will only benefit him putting on size, strength and conditioning needed to be an NRL player.

Why would they want another backup 5/8 when they already have 3?
