Lock and Edge Options for 2025

The shape of the team is better with Bird at lock.

8/10 - May/Pole
16/17 - Klemmer/ Hunt

13. Bird
15 - Seyfarth

Prefer Klemmer aying with Hunt. Klemmer is great defensively and will lock down the middle. May and Pole starting would give great impact

There’s a lot in there u have said we’re great at xyz , I think u need to stay away from the red wine , lol , NO great write up but we seen this year a lot are not anyway near 1st grade
I tried to be objective with the strengths and weaknesses, especially with the guys that have limited FG experience. You are right though, we can't rely too much on unproven talent. They need to prove themselves in the lower grades - something I think we can achieve this year. Last season was a free ride for some. I guess you take it if it comes!

I would like to see
May - Appi - Klemmer
Sam F - Bird - Bateman
Hunt - Pole - Seyfarth - Twal
We have enough player who can jump to other spots
Bird - lock , Backrower , Fullback , Centre , 5/8
API - Hooker , Half -
Bulla - Fullback , Wing , Centre

Yes.
I am still unsure who's decision it was to lend him to Warrington? The media make it sound like it was completely untenable and Richo got rid of him.
Ever have a disagreement with someone at work? You sort it out. This isnt middle school.
I wonder what Bateman’s mindset is and what conversations he had with Sheens before joining the club. We were a shambles back then.

If he’s really keen to help turn a club around then I hope they sort it out.

If Sheens signed him on with all sorts of veteran allowances to return home for Xmas etc. and now Benji’s decided it’s one-in all-in, and he can’t deal with that, best he moves on. We seen with Packer et al what can happen when the club moves the goal posts.

May, Hunt, Sam Fainu are the most proven in their roles. No concerns there.
Pole nearly there.

Bird, Klemmer, Twal, Sione Fainu, Seyfarth and Bateman if he's around are solid (some more than others) and can contribute to a winning team.

Tim Jo has a lot of the attributes but no runs on the board.

After that...Our depth in these positions is not great, no offence to the names listed but if 2 or 3 Porter, Laulili, Sukkar, Matamua or Tumeth are needed at the same time for a run of games due to injury then I think we are lucky to escape bottom 4. We also need to control tempers better. If Bateman leaves, then a 4 week suspension to someone like Seyfarth and bang...we go from serviceable on an edge to someone who probably isn't ready.

Thanks for the write up @Jolls

Good summation OMT, a few injuries on the edge and we're relying on unproven talent. They may cutit, they may not. I certainly haven't seen them knocking the door down in reggies! However, with better players surrounding them I trust that they will learn a lot and lift a couple of notches in 2025.

@Jolls - Great write up.

Given your detail I assume your across possibilities to fill the void of Bateman in 2026.

Who do you like outside the club for right backrow? Or you think someone will lock it down within.

Interesting the article today saying if Bateman goes to the Bunnies we are looking elsewhere. My assumption is Sione takes Batemans top 30 spot, unless we are paying out or moving on one the breaching players.

Someone mentioned a few days back that Benji is looking at Jordan Riki.
He is contracted to end of 27 so prehaps there’s a bit of a squeeze with a few of the Broncos resignings / recent signings.
Could be another apple that falls out of the tree and would be a decent one to catch.

Spot on , He will be more valuable in our team than not , he tries his arse off and hits hard runs hard , stuff we lacked all of 24 , now he knows he has power players with us in May , Hunt , Klemmer , Pole , Twal , Sam they will all be better in a stronger winning team , that’s us in 25
Bullshit...
Prognosis: Another case of off season amnesia.
Diagnosis : watch repeats of his last few games with us.
It's untenable between him n marshall

In the ideal world replacing Baterman in 2026 will come from within. I think it is too early to tell which one of the young guns will develop; but I trust one of them puts their hand up in 2025. Sione F is probably the most likely; however, that is not so say one of the yonger players doesn't come on with more experience in Ressies. I want to get a good look at Jaxon Rahme and Tim Johannssen to see if they could cut it on the edge.

If I was looking for outside stocks to replace Bateman in 2026 there are two options - purchasing in a high quality NRL player on a long contract (unfortunatley cash is tight in 26) or pick up a short term contract to provide development time for our juniors. Depending on how we are travelling if we need a bit more in attack maybe Briton Nikora on a longer term or (left field) Bryce Cartright on a short term one. If we need more defence perhaps Teig Wilton.

This. If Richo is going to upgrade Galvin in Jan too, some front loaded cap will be handy. We should look within first and recruit for 2025 if no one takes it.

Fair call mate , I hope if he goes we get another as good or better to keep building the team , any idea who you think would replace him and is gettable or already in the club

What specifically in his last few games make you believe the relationship is untenable? I too suspect it is, but not due to his on field performances.
