Luai has come from playing with the greatest club halfbacks in atleast the last 10 years, to playing with Galvin and Douhei. Its a pretty big fall from grace.
He tries his guts out every week, he just isnt a 1.2million dollar player on the field without a controlling 7.
I know he wanted to come here to be a 7, but it just isnt him. Looks like Ivan's assessment on him was spot on.
Love or hate him, I think he had alot to do with some of the good culture we had that had us 5 and 2 early in the season.... hopefully the 2.4 we pay him rubs off and we see the benefits instilled into the squad next year.

So basically he's just Luke Brooks v2. A good role player who is overpaid, and thus to justify his pay cheque we try to make him do more than he is capable of. Brooks was looking pretty good for Manly until he did his ACL. I imagine Luai will do just fine at Parra so long as Moses is controlling the ship.

No doubt he’ll be a lot better at the Eels than he was here. We have an uncanny ability to make players regress, sort of like the opposite of Melbourne.

The lesson is that signing one marquee player amongst a squad lacking depth or with significant holes just isn’t enough. Especially when you have holes in the middle and then pick up injuries out wide. No doubt he’ll go better elsewhere without so much pressure to be “the guy”.
The Warriors who can plug and play halves and still win are an example of a proper NRL team.

I hope he takes that rotten culture with him, preferably lodged fair up his clacker. It is a myth.
We need to build a real one pronto so next year’s spoon doesn’t come our way.

Because we simply did not have a right-sided half-back. The hype was that he would run the team but he never did - Galvin got in the way and he just seemed to accept that. "Not my problem"? Then, when LG left, the Dooee experiment was played out and we never looked likely in 25. Latu is not a half back but Benji played him in every non-development position possible. Could that be the reason he is struggling physically? Body shape not suited to an odd-job player?
I hope Latu takes some ownership and returns to pre-season the fittest he’s ever been. Cant remember a guy with a clearer path to a first grade halfback job.

It was supposed to be pretty clear this year and he spent it playing bench hooker. Hasn’t started at 7 once. I know he’s still only 21. A baby essentially. But Galvin is the same age. We’ve been hearing how better Fainu is, and when he’s actually had a chance to show it, there’s enough evidence that he cleans Galvin’s clock. But that’s the problem, he never gets the chance. I know he’s injured a lot, but it’s also the case when he is fit. Katoa is only a year older and look at him. If you are good enough, you are old enough. Barring injury, there is zero excuse for him not to be in the halves come Vegas. Enough is enough.

Thats exactly the issue...Luai has been coasting at WTs .more so from the moment he hooked up with PNG.
Showed against Titans he still has something to offer only if he runs straight and takes on the line,but hes very reticent to do that in case an injury jeopardizes the "big gig"
So he runs sideways...at half pace looking for a slow forward to pass on the inside to and gets smashed
Hes a part of our 2026 problem
Couple him with Douhi who doesnt wanna pass at all,and we have a totally ineffective backline

The culture we had when we were running 3rd? Things shifted when he said he was leaving, which to me is an indicator he was the leader. He was the reason for the positive change.
But, he was also the reason for the negative change. Everyone bought into what he sold. To then pack up and leave, it would have had huge implications on the dressing room.
Love or hate him, before he said he was leaving - he had the club on the up.

I disagree. We played our best footy when he was injured and wasn’t on the field.
It’s no coincidence that we lost seven in a row when he came back and derailed our season.
There was no reason to make a major announcement in the middle of the season, unless you’re self-centred or have an agenda. Being sacked shows me it’s the latter.
I’m interested to see how the off-season develops.

The team put 44 points on the cowboys in round 2, our highest score of the season.
Jarome had 1 try, 1 line break, 2 line break assists, 3 try asissts.
Its no coincidence the team fell off a cliff when their fearless leader said he was leaving, as opposed to form related. It was mental. This also coincided with ALOT of injuries to key players.

He had a great game against the Titans - we have just suffered ongoing injuries since then loss of confidence and lack of depth to counter our weaknesses.
