The Media v Wests Tigers.

Most other clubs are united and focussed on developing a winning team. Nothing to see there. While at WT, well I think Brooks put it well..”there’s always something happening “ 😂
Do you really think that’s entirely true? St George have had board issues and some player unrest for years! Dogs and Souths have had similar with misbehaving players and coach discipline over recent years. Parramatta sacked their long standing coach mid season with talk of players wanting out. The stories are there in most clubs if you want to look for them, the media just rarely look anywhere but here.

No doubt any negative news surrounding Souths or the Bulldogs will gradually disappear now as the media cowtow to Bennett and Gould.

Do they have more fans ? I don’t know the answer …. I certainly couldnt see them selling out half a dozen games on their way to their third wooden spoon in a row …a team that’s won 14 of their last 80 games or so
Souths have easily and I suspect Parramatta do as well. Yes I believe they would sell out games on the way to a third wooden spoon, that’s what supporting your team is all about, but we don’t know for sure because they haven’t been in that position for a while. I’m pretty sure Newcastle fans were still out in full support of their team when they won a three peat in more recent years.

A couple of months ago I was listening to a media ratings expert on radio (I think on Sen) talk about clicks on articles. He used the Tigers as an example that on average a Tigers article would generate over 100k clicks giving the journalist their targeted amount. When the board was removed late last year, Michelle Bishop confirmed she had constant contact with Lee Hagipantelis often with him openly telling her behind the scenes of things happening. We now have Brent Read who is mates with Richo spinning any Tigers articles in a positive manner. We also make it very easy for rubbish articles because we have made some rubbish decisions and dished up some rubbish performances. I can remember an article highlighting that Luke Brooks had played x amount of games for no finals footy and painted him in a very negative light. When he signed with Manly that very same media outlet put up headlines “Signing of the year” before he had even played. I have no doubt that the recent leaks regarding (Romey & Bula) are from our former Ceo & Chairman and a current board member because it was only last week that Richo was very clear and very vocal how our new sponsorship deals are the biggest in the club’s history. Remember some articles when Brydens ended their association with us, Lee said Tigers would struggle to find a sponsor who puts in the dollars that Brydens put in. One thing will minimise the constant beat down of us is winning. Its simple, win and they win mostly leave us alone.
I was also listening to SEN , when they had a journo on. The host was drilling him about all the negative NRL stories and he said, they are the ones that get more clicks.
Another thing that hasn’t helped is the lack of Rugby League scandals…to take the attention away from a club like us at the bottom of the ladder.
When Roy&HG started “This Sporting Life” back in the 80’s. There seemed to be a scandal every week. Even in the 2000’s with Julian O’Neil, Todd Carney, Josh Dugan, Joel Monaghan, Mitchell Pearce ect slowly the scandals have been getting less and less.
Ezra Mam took the heat off us a bit. But we really need a player to step up and do something like “the poo in the shoe” or “the bubbler” to take the focus right off us.

No club is perfect but if you were to rate them we are the most imperfect and during Pascoe’s reign we made it an art form. Not many clubs would threaten legal action to get the final score changed. There’s value in constantly being in the news regardless if it’s good or bad, although some would say bad news travels further and faster.
Those clubs you mentioned don’t hold the record for number of seasons without finals.

Yeah but I'm sure some Parra & other teams have player contracts with "controversial" clauses, yet how many of them are brought up in sports headlines? WT have had more revealed than the rest of the NRL combined!
The Luai contract is newsworthy, potentially changing the path of our club that’s been in the wilderness for 15 years.

Parra got bashed in the media last year too. We just don’t read it. People love to look at a car crash.
Valid point BAGNF05!
I don’t have time to read all the news on WT so I’m sure as hell not devoting much time to the Eels.
However, other teams seem to bounce back faster, while we focus more on sackings to ease the criticism for a while.

December 12 2023 was a turning point imo.

Chammas has a clear agenda against the club. Hate him. The kind of guy that I bet has never played at all because his mum didn’t want to get hurt. Now he reckons he’s king shit. Hope he gets done like that other knob Josh Massoud years ago.
I don’t think so ! I just think he’s a muck raker , that has pissed off a lot of clubs out there , especially the roosters and bulldogs , so his ability to get stories is limited .
So his contacts appear to be limited to the tigers , and dragons , with the occasional Penrith and eels article .
At the end of the day , he would have a mandate to distribute 1 article a week or more , and it’s very quiet at the moment . So he writes a pointless article about the club he has the most contacts in , which drives the amount of clicks.
In his podcast , Weidler called him out the other day on how he writes to clicks and writes what’s going to generate the most eyeballs , which in turn generates ad revenue for his paper .
He’s found his golden goose , and as his best mate just got shafted out of the chairman position , he’s scrambling for content .

Said it in the Luai thread
TDS = Tigers Derangement Syndrome!

I might just be so used to it by now because it really doesn't seem to be as bad as it used to.

There was a time where it seemed every week there was a spiteful, Schadenfraude story about the club.

It was 100% negative. I don't think it is as bad as it used to be.

Its quite simple.
The Wests Tigers are the joke of the code and as the clowns of the league, they provide entertainment to all concerned with the game. If we wrote down all the idiot things that people in charge of and playing for this club have done over the past decade, we'd fill 10 pages. I mean only last week Richo claimed we had the best spine in the league. Look at the attention seeking crap that was involved with our jersey and sponsor reveal....The antics of our club make other fans feel better about their own...."could be worse, we arent the Tigers".
Its not just our fans eating up every article. Schadenfruede plays its role and having a slightly sensationalist headline will always result in huge clicks. Our club exists in many ways for other fans to have a giggle and talk about our misfortunes.
The biggest story this morning is that Madge wants his players to wear shirts at training. Thats pretty boring compared with us and our generous player options, board infighting and ex administrators plotting revenge. Id suggest we would make a popular topic for a reality tv show...except we have already tried that....and failed lol.
Yep ! But I actually think it’s deeper than that , or its roots are def purely more nefarious . In the 2010s the tigers were by far and away thanks to B Marshall , the biggest club in the game , when it came to generating revenue . And there definitely was a period during then that we had a semi ban on news limited media .
So IMO I think with them , there’s a lot of people there like buzz , Ritchie and Crawley and his brother who’s the producer on most of thier big shows, who definitely have an axe to grind .
But you’re right , we do it too ourselves nowadays. I just don’t think that’s where the original stuff came from .
I mean up until the last 3 years , the joke was we always came 9th. And I remember hearing that joke as early as 2014, just after Benji left.
I think it is deeper , and I also think it’s elitism as well . Even when these guys talk about Penrith there’s a condescending kind of tone , it’s almost begrudging .
Nearly all thier pundits are guys who live in the Shire . Did you know that ?
James Graham lives at the top of my in-laws hill . Ennis lives near a cafe I used to take my son, when I lived there. And a shit tonne live in the same 2 suburbs , I’m not going to name suburbs for privacy reasons .

Think people underestimate the cooperation and competence needed to pull off a conspiracy... there is no concerted effort or conspiracy, its the incentive model in the media and the community at large. Rage-bait, Short term dopamine hits. That is the model in modern society. No one is trying to destroy the Tigers (except maybe themselves)

If it bleeds it leads.
