OFFICIAL Jarome Luai - #295

Reed Mahoney is a dickhead. Gutho is a dickhead, Luai is different imo
He plays for us.

I don’t think his reputation has changed much to the greater RL community. If you’ve always hated him, I doubt there has been much reason for you to change your tune. Our supporters looking at him through black, white and orange glasses were bound to start finding him endearing.

People change. Males change a lot between 18-25. Dont think males are fully developed until after 25

I don't think he has changed always talked the talk and walks the walk and I'm pretty sure he would be annoying fans somewhere with the insane confidence that he continually demonstrates. For me I have always liked that about him and still can't quite believe that he is at our club and has stated he is here for long haul. A bit early for a mural imo - but just hoping he can be the key that initiates a change in fortune for this club.

He wasn’t second fiddle there. He had a specific role to play based upon skill set and he mostly did it very well. As did they all, including Nathan.
Direct quote from Jarome:

"There I was always the second fiddle guy and I was never going to be that guy [at Penrith], so once this opportunity came up I looked at it as a way for me to show what I'm capable of," he said.

I think he toned things down after the tweet about fans having to go to work tmrw after an origin game.
He's won a lot of games since and been quite humble IMO.

That’s probably true. But I still don’t think it matters to most people. The community has a whole generally don’t change their opinion of a player.

How wrong....
If you cannot see the player he was to the player he is today and the maturity he's displayed, and has been noted many times in the media then you're aren't looking objectively imo

I can. I just don’t think the general RL community will.

I remember oy a few short years ago Luai was pretty much loathed by most clubs fans.... Close to the dickhead dogs hooker who's name escapes me atm level.
But he's matured outta site and I'm hoping he can have a positive influence with Naden that sees him mature somewhat as well and get the crap outta his game
Yes I remember he was very immature and arrogant on the field, copped a lot of bad press because of it. Terrell May even commented something similar recently saying he remembered Luai was always a mocker and annoying lol. It’s amazing how much has grown up in a relatively short time. Something changed him, maybe becoming a family man or his responsibilities and success at Penrith. Probably a bit of both, but he’s definitely a different and better person now.

I think his turning point came after giving that atrocious
best mans speech at to'o's wedding lmao. I think
he was embarrassed around friends & family, and
then Nathan's injuries & suspensions helped propel him

Yeah I know he said that. I’m not a fan of that narrative to be honest. He didn’t have it in him for most of his time there, although he did show a bit this year.
Be interesting to see if he tries way too hard here to prove himself to an audience that are already convinced he’ll do well.

Hopefully while watching every game of ours this year twice he saw what happened with Api in trying too hard... He'll have LG to lessen the load too

Sorry but Staines isn't good enough. He makes a.mistake and he just stands there like a meme instead of getting angry. He can barely make a post contact metre. It was so hard for our halves to do anything because both wingers couldn't get the set started properly. Naden has had plenty of time but mental frailalties have always been there.

At the end of the day it is of for them to be backup this year but if this marakasini is really good as they say, Naden,Staines and Toa.can go at the end of next year. Should sign someone for left centre because Olam will finish up in 2026 depending on how his injuries are going.

I hope Skelton can sought his defences issues out because he's great running back.
Cmon.

Look we can punt Toa, he always seemed Fringe-graderish. Naden too lets see.
However we can't just rewrite our backline. Just pay out Naden, Staines, Toa along with Sullivan (700K HOW?) and Bateman!

Sullivan and Bateman alone is likely going to be 1m of our cap Gone.

Plus we replace our unreliables, with newbies who haven't got first grade experience?

Nope. We need to ask instead, how come players like Staines and Naden are not performing here. What about Turuva, how do we keep his conditioning at the same standard as Penrith?

Wayne Bennett said it best "you can afford to loose someone, as long as their replacement is an upgrade". Or in this case, can we afford to lose Staines/Toa/Naden and be sure we get someone worthy in their place?

Not arguing that people shouldn't be cut, I just want to know we will have a team and not a spoon at the end of it.
