And they call me Buttface?

I think an alien has jumped onto your face Mikey? I’ve seen the movie this doesn’t end well.

Nice jack, up the river?
What on?
I'm a shy lad 🙂

Near river mouth at Nambucca on a small fillet of mullet I caught a couple of days ago.

Was targeting bream (which have now thinned right out but still managed 4) and got the surprise of my life when it hit. I thought I had caught a monster bream until I saw the red.

I got one (and only) years ago on PMQ breakwall. I wasn’t sure what I had in those days and an old digger walking past told me. He also had bad news, it was just under size, so I had to let it grow.

I got my first flounder when I was a kid. This things got two eyes on the same side!!! So I knifed the deformed bastard so it couldn’t bread and threw it back. Later I’m telling my uncle and he says that’s a flounder you buttface, and one of the best eating fish.
Years later and I’m sick of baiting Mrs BF’s hook so I buy her a lure. She just left it out there for two hours and when I reeled it in there was a massive flounder, thick as. She says that things got two eye on the same side you should knife the bastard. Obviously we had flounder for dinner.

Flounder is one of the best eating fish imo.
Not many left these days unfortunately.

I fish around the harbour (balmain area) and find that during the winter months it's a lot harder to catch fish.

Im glad its warming up, will start getting back out there again.

Going to take my bro on a fishing charter in the next few weeks and go hunting for kingys, should be fun!

Will you be jigging?
That is a brilliant arm workout for Kingfiish.

I went out off Mourilyan yesterday but didn't go out to the reef because the tide wasn't great. We found a huge school of something. I have never seen anything like it, at least ten meters across and eight deep. We never found out what they were as they wouldn't take any of the baits we threw at them, and they wouldn't take either soft or metal jigs. We got sharked twice so moved on.
Our second spot was better, caught a heap of small mouth nannies and a couple of good sized trevally. I got sharked by something massive that just kept going although I was locked up on it. Eventually it bit through the trace. I also had a good run from a big barracuda but got bitten off by that one too.
Didn't come home with much but it was a fun day.

Bought myself a boat about two months ago & just been taking it out most weekends in the early morning. Last week went out on the Botany & it was a flatty & whiting special.
Nice. Used to go on Botany Bay with the old man when I was a young fella. Remember getting a stack of blue swimmers in Kogarah Bay. Also used to love the prawn and oyster places just before Tom Ugly's Bridge. Had many a feed of prawns there.

View from my local wharf at Bonnells Bay Lake Mac. Pulled a few Flatties, Bream and Whiting out of there over the years.

Do local trawlers still operate in the area,? They suck the guts out of i ,just leaving undersize catch, which taste' s sweet every less than often. Beauty of the local wharf is relaxing, the odd catch but the weird n wonderful that turn up on the line n the wharf at times are memorable

Not anymore thankfully, just recreational fishing now, the lake is teaming with heaps of species. I recently caught a 3FT Cobia from my boat near Pulbar Island (then released her), some big muddies around Dora Creek with a torch and a net. Just take enough for a feed and let the rest go...
Some big sharks in the lake now also..
