HBG have presented concerns re the review including;

perceived lack of independence of reviewers Crawford and Barnier;
A fear that recommendations were based on opinions, not fact – and changes shouldn’t be made on opinion;
That a large portion of people interviewed were not from within the Wests Tigers, raising questions over the relevance of their opinions;
That key people (including Romero, former Wests Tigers and Balmain director James Myatt, then Wests Magpies chairman Shannon Cavanagh, Tigers employees, sponsors and the No.1 ticket holder, (Peter Binet of Binet Homes) were not interviewed.
That discussions of potential replacements for Pascoe a
and Hagipantelis were premature;
That the decision to not scrutinise the football operations of the Wests Tigers, which was the key area of ongoing failure, was a significant omission from the scope of work.

With the exception of;

That discussions of potential replacements for Pascoe and Hagipantelis were premature....

Hard to disagree with their assessments.

Trouble is they needed to have acted earlier

Good point. I'm an old Magpies fan but look at my forum handle. It's not true that all old Magpies want the club to ditch the Tigers name to become the Magpies.

Rick Wayde & the other directors "sidelined" by Romero, Burgess & Co are also old Magpies, in Rick's case he bled black & white blood and put in so much blood sweat & tears into saving the Magpies from the same fate as Newtown & Norths back in the 80s.
He led so many fundraising operations, organised a great concert at Lidcombe with some of Australia's best bands at the time. He was also probably the very best ground announcer of that era.

However Rick's mission in life is to see the Wests TIGERS become the NRL powerhouse it could & should be. The same goes with the other "deposed" directors.

I love the Masters Apprentices & actually met and spent some time chatting with Dennis Burgess at an ARIA awards night at The Ivy some years back. I liked the guy.....BUT both he and Julie Romero MUST GO!

Is there a petition up to get rid of (at least) these two? If not can someone a bit more tech savvy set one up? It worked with the one that saw Lee & Pascoe shown the door. Us fans and especially the members need to put so much pressure on Romero, Burgess & Co to either pull their heads in or resign....the latter being preferable!

I remember the crap a lot of the guys here used to give Marina Go, in my opinion undeservedly. She was a year above me at (Good Old Rooty Hill) High School and was a top debater & school captain. She is also a very successful journalist & business woman in her own right. I believe that she would be an excellent replacement for Romero as she is Wests Tigers through & through and was actually a Balmain supporter prior to 2000.

Something needs to be done, preferably BEFORE season 2025 kicks off!
Marina Go was also totally out of her depth and as Chair presided over the diabolical Pascoe salary cap breach that saw him with a six month paid holiday/suspension along with the fine and cap penalties imposed on the club that hamstrung our recruitment and retention for several years!

As Chair she should have recommended that Justin be removed as CEO then for demonstrable gross incompetence!

Instead she dug her heels in support of Justin (when he had clearly made an appalling error of judgement and process) and threatened baseless legal action against the NRL (same BS that Lee regularly did as her successor)!

If she had displayed basic sound judgement at the time and recommended that the Board end Pascoe's tenure as CEO then and there on entirely fair grounds - it could have spared us the years of dysfunction of the toxically co-dependent Pascoe-Hagipantelis era and the resulting hat-trick of wooden spoons...

Marina Go ,Tim Bailey the weather man n Scare crow Jason Taylor were dynamic, what went wrong ???

Marina Go would be an unbelievably good choice as a director and in my opinion would be a better chair than BO’F.

Disagree,

Believe that she handled the Cleary debacle poorly and should've pushed for the punting of Pascoe once his man Cleary threw us under the bus.

But she was unaffiliated with WA/HBG a former Balmain fan,supposedly qualified so it shows our failures run deeper than the so called Magpies die-hards.

Crawford was CFO of the NRL , and Barnier has conducted corporate reviews as a job . That’s ridiculous! It’s because of Barniers love for the club that they were even interested in the first place .
That a large portion of people interviewed were not from within the Wests Tigers, raising questions over the relevance of their opinions;
It was an external review ? It was meant to not include those within the walls . That’s the point . All bar 3 people were people in the industry or previous board members. It’s not like it was 10 blokes sitting around at the pub .
That key people (including Romero, former Wests Tigers and Balmain director James Myatt, then Wests Magpies chairman Shannon Cavanagh, Tigers employees, sponsors and the No.1 ticket holder, (Peter Binet of Binet Homes) were not interviewed.
See above .
That discussions of potential replacements for Pascoe a
and Hagipantelis were premature;
They were shit for years . Pascoe should have been fired when the Farah thing happened .
That the decision to not scrutinise the football operations of the Wests Tigers, which was the key area of ongoing failure, was a significant omission from the scope of work.
They just went through a review , which culminated in the hiring of Benji and Sheens , and Betsy and the restructuring around junior development and recruitment strategies .
By the way that’s great leadership . “It’s not us it’s them” Screams a really good leadership .
When you’re in a position of leadership , everyone who screws up is your responsibility. Either to be accountable , or behaviour manage or whatever .
In that whole email from Julie I read nothing of accountability of a board who’s overseen a club that was once the darling of the league , turning into one of the biggest laughing stocks RL in Australia has ever seen .
It’s laughable that with every level of the football department , down and all through the club being turned over , that she would even have the audacity to mention another review of the football department as a potential alternate solution .

Because Leo is entirely irrelevant as he has no role on the HBG or WT Boards - and has even voluntarily relinquished his Board role at Balmain for the sake of unity and solidarity with Wests Tigers!

Something Burgess and Romero could learn from!

You’re so close BZN, you just need to connect those last few dots. What difference could there possibly be between having a magpie or a tiger in one’s username? One’s divisive and one’s unifying. Hint, it’s in the title of the forum and the name of the team we support…

Should I change my 20 year username?

And what of people who have Balmain in their username?

I don't think many people actually believe its a chance of happening or even being considered. I think Wayde and a few others are scaremongering to suit their cause or agenda.
Rick Wayde is a very ethical man with great principles and impeccable character. He's an honest man who has spent over 40 years working his arse off (and spending a lot of his own money) to serve firstly the Western Suburbs Magpies and since 2000 the Wests Tigers.

I would believe ANYTHING Rick says above Romero or Burgess any day of the week. Despite Romero's press release stating there was "nothing to see here" regarding certain board members wanting the MAGPIE brand to take over the TIGERS name of the NRL squad.

Remember, there were also denials from Balmain RLFC board members that they were pulling for Balmain to break from the JV with only Garry Leo owning up (or more likely thrown under the bus).
A few of them cited Romero, Burgess & Co pushing for a Magpies take over & rebranding of the club as part of the reason Garry Leo and his fellow unnamed Balmain board members wanted Balmain quit the JV.

Where there's smoke there's fire.
Rick would not have made this up.
He's definitely heard this proposal and though he's an ex Magpie official he strongly stands faithfully with the club and it current Wests TIGERS brand.

😂😂😂

Like 'fair' the Treatment Rick Wayde (The man credited with saving the Magpies) is getting from
Dennis Burgess on the Wests Magpies Board at the moment?
(With not being allowed on the Premises and all)

How would the Wests Magpies not be 'Treated Fairly' in any of the associated Boards?
- They ARE the Boards.
Burgess has lost any I respect I had for him as a director or even as a member of an iconic Aussie rock group all thanks to his treatment of Rick Wayde & the other ex Magpie men who have now moved on and want a bright successful future of a united JV a united Wests Tigers.

The people on the board previously had ample opportunity to make decisions and ultimately presided over 3 wooden spoons and years of failure.

Whose opinion were they going to seek that would have supported more of that? If you want to talk about independence, the only people that would have supported it would have been far from independent voices.

These guys get a big fat F and the recommendations outlined are completely sensible and logical. I'm not sure how you can find any hidden bias or agenda in them at all particularly in the context of the results of the club.

Out of interest. Do you think the board, which included Burgess and Romero, did a good job while they held those positions?

Factually speaking, they were part of 3 wooden spoons in a row. Do we need any more facts than that? It's in plain view. It doesn't need to be fact checked to know it was a failure and they all lost their jobs accordingly.

You can't keep sacking players, CEO'S and coaches if they're the ones signing off on the appointments can you? When are we allowed to start blaming the people that approve all the failures? They lost their jobs and rightly so. The travesty is that they've somehow regained some power and are now making a mess of things yet again. These people ARE the problem along with the biased debenture holders.

Reactions: BZN

probably because Leo is irrelevant to the Wests Tigers ….Why do you think people need to comment on those that are irrelevant ? Also he is like 80 years old and I’ve heard has some health issues …RL Administration is a younger mans game these days…

But you tell me your reasons?
