Cricket Season Thread

Hopefully the Marshtard experiment is finally dead and burried. The worst Australian cricketer I have ever seen to have played more than a couple of tests. If the Marshmallow was rolled out to provide his usual lap dances in the change rooms and SFA on the field in Sydney the Border Gavaskar would be back to India. Disgusting that he is the seventh ranked all-rounder in the country yet somehow played 46 tests thanks to his daddy's WA mate.
Do you even enjoy watching cricket or just like slagging off blokes?

Konstas told to play his natural game and does so - punters whinge.

All the air got taken out of the run chase when he departed, luckily there was enough resolve from Webster and Head to keep scoring at a decent click.

Bumrah being over bowled cost them dearly.

I think there was probably a plan early on to get as many overs into Bumrah after his injury as possible like lyon and Boland parking the bus at the MCG

Konstas got a pair of 20’s. I wouldn’t call that making runs.
45 runs for the test…not shooting the lights out by any stretch, that said, he outscored Khawaja (43), Labuschagne (8), Smith (37) and Head (38).
The only bloke who batted twice who outscored him was Webster with an excellent 96.

Sounds like we did it pretty easy in the end

Webster sure showed me up ....still concerned Australian selectors need to stop trying all rounders to replace all rounders every time Green is unavailable

Funny you say that. I’ve only been thinking recently how they’ve been obsessed with allrounders ever since Flintoff dominated them in the 05 Ashes. After that series, it was all about finding an allrounder. Watson, Symonds became regulars. In recent years it’s been Marsh and Green. You would think given how weak the batting is and how strong the bowling is, they would focus on just picking the 6 best batsmen in the country. It’s not like they are in need of a 5th bowler most of the time.

Well when the 4th bowler isn't bowling many overs it doesn't help

How many overs did Lyon actually bowl in the series ??

Lyon is cooked. Next summer is going to be interesting. Uzi will be 39, Lyon 38, Smith 36, Starc 35. I think there will be a few retirements at the end of the Ashes. That’s if a couple aren’t tapped on the shoulder before hand.

Settle down mate. It's one thing to not rate his ability at that level, but your going hard in on a bloke every person who meets him loves him. It's not like he is a knob.

Plus, it’s easy to forget this time last year, he was pretty much where Travis Head is now. The backbone of the batting, I said the other day half jokingly, but there is a huge “what have you done for me lately” syndrome with the public and their feelings towards the Aussie cricket team. Doesn’t take much at for a player to fall out of favour. And when they do fall out of favour, it’s the MIB treatment. It’s forgotten that the player ever had any value.

Konstas comes into the Aussie side with more media hype than a young Ricky Ponting. The only thing as big as the hype is his confidence and if he is willing to learn from the old heads he may have a long career, he could also end up on the white ball circuit because he can’t cut test cricket…time will tell

On the other hand a seasoned pro, Webster gets a call up and there is silence. Takes some good catches, tops scores in dig one, takes a wicket in the second innings and then hits the winning run. He was not doing Merv Hughes exercises, He was not niggling the other mob, he just did a job he would do if playing for his club or state.

I just hope young Sam doesn’t get carried away with the hype, because yes he has talent, but at test level they all have talent and you don’t want to put a big target on your head

Plus Cummins is a true all rounder who usually puts the supposed all rounders we select to shame.
Webster had a very good Test Match. Good on him.

That’s how society rolls. They love shiny objects. It’s like when you see “influencers” make it big on social media. Most who get big get there by having no talent. Yet true people with talent, like song writers get ignored. Not saying the kid doesn’t have talent btw, but the fanfare has been OTT all because he came out Boxing Day and played a few ramp shots.
