Taking a wrecking ball to the club! (Recent Media Reports)

A BTR Pod has just released with Richo, Barry, Julie Romero & Simon Cook.
It's interesting, they put on a united face.

I don't really believe that the outgoing directors are completely lying or fabricating, and like cochise has maintained I am unclear why it's taken over 12 months to implement the main recommendations of the external review, particularly the changes to Board structure. So for example silly stuff like forcing BOF to reapply for his role, or insisting on a second bid for the director recruitment consultation only to decide on the same company that was already selected.

But given that Julie Romero has finally put her face forward and both Barry and Richo appear adamant we will be seeing the recommended Board changes implemented within 1 month (says Barry), it would appear either:

(a) the "Rebel" directors (Rick, Tony, Dave) read the room incorrectly and were spooked and/or concerned with the lack of speed towards the agreed overhaul; or

(b) the "Dinosaur" directors really did have designs on scrapping parts of the review but have been cowed by a rapid increase in public fan and media pressure (and potentially also internal threats from neutrals like Richo and O'Farrell).

Probably a bit of a mixture of (a) and (b).

It's interesting that a wide range of Tigers fans, particularly those with a media platform, have generally agreed and shared concerns about the change of HBG stewardship and implications for the restructuring. I can't believe they were all just making it up or all just listening to the same "misinformed miscreants".

I was also concerned how the fairly fanciful/tame charges and draconian bans were levelled against Rebel directors during this same period of upheaval, because if Julie and others were indeed steering us strongly towards agreed positive changes, I don't see why they would simultaneously have to organise a Boardroom coup and guillotine their rivals. And why Rick or Tony would bother making public comments, same as some Balmain folks last year, if there was never any doubt that the Board restructure would occur and HBG would relinquish majority control of Wests Tigers.

Do people not find it coincidental that at the same time some fans have united to put external pressure on HBG to follow through with the restructure, HBG have come out and said it will be resolved possibly within January? Much ado about nothing if there was never any doubt we would have the external review realised in the first month of 2025.

I mentioned something similar to your b) in a post the other day.
The blowtorch has been put on them so hard they’re beginning to melt.
Last thing they want to happen is lose all their freebies.

It looks to me like

Reason A 10%
Reason B 90%

Naturally i could be 100% wrong but that is my honest opinion and now the board are trying to save face

Notice how they didn't put Denny Burgess on the panel. Need some form of credibility even if you can hardly muck up with 2 minutes of speaking time.

Looks really like Richo is just bulldozing things through as seems to be his admirable MO.

What do you say Julie?
"I'm the Lady Chair guy. We were always going to follow the review and 2025 looks exciting! Denny loaned me a nice blouse for the occasion."

What do you say Simon?
"I'm the Money Guy, we have money, we give money to football, we like football and we like money."

What do you say Barry?
"I'm the Politician Guy, it was never in doubt, I wouldn't have joined if it was in doubt, even reapplying for my own role only served to strengthen our conviction against any shreds of doubt."

What do you say Richo?
"I'm the Grumpy Santa guy. I don't do BS or PC or any other acronyms. Even if you get past my waistline my beard will get ya. We are unified, undivided, together, allied, on the same page and down for the Crocodile Roll On The Bus, headed for Success Station to catch the Tiger Train to Victory Town."

Happy team it appears
*No mention of sacking 3 board members
(with at least 1 debenture member in disbelief at such action)
*Lots of talk about $$ being thrown around
* No mention of failing to complete timeframes or review steps
*The ‘reported’ talk of a member of the recruitment team saying it had turned into a shit show, obviously a mirage 🤔

We can only live in hope

Probably the last time I'll focus on this situation unless something happens in the future. Listening to Richo speak always fills you with a lot of confidence & my mind is at ease (for now.) Still disappointing that no one from Board level has spoken about the claims of wanting to bring Balmain or the Magpies back into the NRL though. Also nothing about Romero threatening Barry with legal action if he tries to appoint the independent directors without her being present.

They could’ve given a timeframe for the independent board a couple of press releases ago if it was really happening by the end of January

FACT
The club was only back from holidays yesterday. Having the owners and club management provide one statement/podcast together makes total sense.

I've really thought the fans would be happy with this confirmation.

obviously the WT Unite petition is about ensuring that the HBG Directors and Chair are democratically elected, which is entirely fair and reasonable. Liquor and Gaming can and should ensure that the debenture system is thrown out and I hope that it succeeds.

for now though, as others have stated, there is no reason to be concerned with the implementation of the independent directors for the Wests Tigers board. it has taken longer than it should have, but at present, it seems to me as if HBG and Simon Cook are intent on ensuring they are simply financiers and shareholders. holding just a single seat on the future WT board also indicates as such.

I know there's a lot of feeling and mistrust out there, and it is understandable given the past few years, but we can now wait and see what happens with the implementation of the new board, which we have been told will be put in place late this month.

Got post from you as usual 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽

And a job well done by the sound of things 👍.
It was a small club and we did make a profit each year , gave the grants out each year , supported our internal clubs with funds to make sure the members of each sporting club had what they needed , off memory 3 elections with only a couple director changes over 6 years , I moved away from the area , the other was older and unwell ,
