Surely that is just an opinion though. Those guys may well have deserved their sanctions.
It wouldn't matter if they deserved their sanctions or not, they are part of the problem and on the amount of disruptive, dysfunctional behaviour which has filtered its way into the public arena it's enough to suggest the organisation needs upgrading.
It is an opinion, and people can form their own opinions based on the level of incompetency they are willing to accept. You can accept mediocrity, but don't expect excellence to be squeezed out the other end of the organisation.

Filtered it's way into the public arena? Yeah, by the petition!
They're appointing , largely, an independent board so I don't give a crap about a leagues club board.
God help us if they raise the price of a schooner.

I’m an owner and I don’t see it as spiteful.
I see it as a stepping stone to rid WA members of this archaic debenture system.
how are you an owner Jux.debenture holder?i'd hope your not on any of the boards of any group with talk like that, or just a garden variety payed up /non financial supporter

Here's a hypothetical for you - WT get the independent board that everyone believes will magically transform the club to a multi premiership winner. Lo and behold the club still struggles because the independent board is pretty crap and needs to go. Who has the power to get rid of them - should it be the members of WT or the owner of the club.

Seriously. I worked direct to very powerful politicians so don't play that card. I can't explain the anti-HBG hysteria without reference back to Balmain's failure. I might be wrong in your case but that sentiment exists on this forum. I went to a school where the 3 teams supported were Wests, Balmain and Canterbury. A lot of my mates are ex-Balmain and some are on this forum. They hate Wests Ashfield with a passion and reminded me plenty of times in the early years how Balmain carried Wests, and they did. When roles reversed they became very bitter indeed.
That’s your own echo chamber that you’re in , and I’m pretty sure you’re of a certain age ie. above 65?
You’re exactly in the demographic that is most likely to never get over these allegiances as you’d formed them well before wests tigers as an idea was even floated . Many of us were still in school when the merger happened , and as such whilst we have roots in one foundation club or another , we’ve spent in most cases twice the amount of time as wests tigers supporters than which ever foundation club you followed initially .
Every single person I’ve seen play the Balmain v magpies nonsense debate is retirement age or there abouts.
This club wests tigers future is the kids, and thier parents .
They’re the ones buying merch , flags , face paint forming memories , and I’m so sick of this narrative driven by people who simply never really got past Y2K , whether they begrudgingly follow the child of those 2 clubs - wests tigers .
The petition both of them mind you , has 1 real goal and the people behind it .
Making the wests tigers become the best team in the league. Where we should have been after 2005 through 2011 , when we had 2 of the top 7 or 8 players in the world putting our jersey on.
This revolution and accountability of people making decisions at the club has been a long time coming .
If your concern is how big a bird is on the sleeve , or how much Orange is in the jersey , or picking up people for calling the club wests or tigers , then no matter how much you advocate for yourself on here . You are the problem . You’re perpetuating a tired narrative.
I have very little memories of Balmain as a kid whose family was from Gladesville.
But I have infinite memories and fondness of wests tigers highlights and lowlights .
This victim complex is toxic and a relic of a bygone era .

The owners of the club do . They have 3 members on the board as well ? 4 if you include Balmain . wtf are you talking about ? It’s the whole point of the restructure so that the people making decisions on the wests tigers board are accountable , and there’s no conflict of interest as HBG and thier board isn’t directly the same people as on wests tigers .
Which was the old setup .

There's definitely a lot that are anti HBG. Some are due Balmain bias but most are due to their performance since taken over ownership. I've been anti HBG in the past as much as I was anti Pascoe. But in the last 12 months they've stood side and given Richardson free reign and are appointing an independent board.
Can we not just take a step back and let wests tigers management continue on the road they've set forward?
The battle was won last year.

Agreed .
I said earlier in a post that maybe the 2nd petition was premature , and that maybe we all got out the pitchforks when we didn’t have to .
For me , my concerns began with Gary Barnier , when he was foreshadowing some of the events of last few months .
So I’ve been very concerned about the implementation of the review to its fullest extent . So maybe I jumped at shadows , maybe not .
The issue is it’s real hard to believe all that though , when it takes a petition and a series of articles and threats to achieve this outcome . The optics arnt great.
But as I’ve stated multiple times , whether the petition did anything but piss people off , or it actually secretly achieved what it set out to and forced the issue , none of us will ever really know . It doesn’t change anything . The club is getting the changes that it needs , and the outcome we all want .
In my opinion the ends justify the means . By the start of the season hopefully this can all be put behind us . And a strong footy team with correct governance in place to best help it move forward .

Could HBG buy out balmain completely? I'm not sure they own anything now except for the 10% stake in WT.

They should buy them and have them as a subsidiary. HBG own the markets club and the future rozelle site anyway.

They own Balmain leagues clubs assets . They don’t own Balmain tigers rugby league football club . Thats who owns the 10%.
Another example of this is Parramatta leagues is not the same as Parramatta Football club . Even though there’s a lot of crossover . It’s the same for the bulldogs .

Good distinction. Wondering if they could own the club entity. Then the merger would be a lot tighter.

Well said. I’m 74 and agree with you 100%. Footy is a young person’s game. Both on the field and in the stands. There’s a reason we call the old days the old days. That’s the past. We need a future.

why not just stop supporting them and let them ride off into the sunset, sounds cheaper

Richo Im pretty sure was hired as a result of the recommendations of the review. The HBG board approached him, without being recommended in the review I'm not sure the boardroom would have had enough sense to approach him

I don’t actually care who or how at the end of the day someone be it the owners &/or board did their job and did it well - they showed action which was going to create sizeable change. They actually showed leadership at the top instead of pushing it all down field.
