Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

According to the panthers they don’t have any players with an option in their favour .

From emerging NRL stars through to the biggest names in the game, players at 14 of the 17 NRL teams could become available as early as this year as clubs navigate the balancing act between contract clauses and keeping rosters flexible.

Penrith is just one of three clubs who do not have an option in any of their playing contracts, with Canterbury and the Roosters the other clubs.

The Panthers decided during their historic premiership four-peat to not allow any player or mutual options in their deals.

“At a point in time there was a robust discussion where the board endorsed a recommendation that the football department could not insert a mutual or player option into a contract,” Panthers rugby league boss Matt Cameron said.

The Panthers will allow for club options, which leaves the decision on a players’ future up to the club.

Winning!
A strong board helps.

Hypothetically, could Naden play lock?
..
No
and
no.

Look we have 1 2RF in Samuela, Pole and a few others who can play lock.
Naden hasn't got the physical to play Center. He was kinda better on the wing as a winger who can shutdown the other side. Keep him in the playing group and see how he vibes off having Luai back.

If Naden had to go to the front row it would be 2RF, but it would be brutal. I can only see him as that 3rd bench player that covers the back positions but does 20 minutes in the forwards if no one else injured.... Which is what I think we hired Jack Bird for.

Checking out Canberra's roster.

They have an opposite roster to us. So heavy on the forwards, so light on the backs.
A rookie fullback, No named backs other then Xavier Savage. It seriously looks like they could do with some of our backs.

Yet they have a stacked forward pack. Ok stacks of Props but a few 2RF...

Curious who we would swap with Ricky. I could see Ricky needing Starford Toa or Naden, either as starters or depth. It's a really shallow canberra backline. While it's prop heavy, there are 2RF and locks we could bring here.

Richo has indicated that this is a position that we are headed towards also.
Yep, right after we give JL whatever he wants.
Not that I’m complaining, I think everyone has seen my hat/avatar.

Player options are just another way for managers to exert control or pressure clubs into making decisions they wouldn’t otherwise wouldn’t have. I can see very few long term gains for the club, just a short term gain in winning the initial signing a player. This can be counter productive, most players stay at their clubs, so with that in mind you get them to your club, but then you give away that advantage by giving the player the option to leave anyway?
This is not good poker. ♣️ ♠️

Fogarty, Sanders/Strange, Kris, Timoko, Weekes, Savage, Chevy Stewart,
Hopoate,
Plus a handful of good young kids. They don't need Naden or T'oa as much as we do.

Zac Hoskings... been knocking on the door for a while, and wouldn't cost a lot.
Mature player, that has moved from and played with with Broncos, Penrith systems before moving to the Raiders. Had an injury last year, high energy player with great D and runs a great line. ls contracted to 2026 though.
