2025 Centre Options - What is our best centre pairing?

round.1 might be
1. turuva
2. Luke L
3. Naden
4. Starford to'oa
5. Skelton

not a fan of AD at centre however with Api out who kicks goals ?
I’m curious to see what Marshall does if Bula isn’t ready come round 1.

on one hand Turuva makes sense, but is it worth disrupting defensive combos on our edges that we’ve worked on for months in preseason?

personally I’d be running with

1. Staines
2. Skelton
3. To’a
4. Olam
5. Turuva

Was that chase a souths winger from memory.
No that was Tautau Moga and the game was Round 24 in 2022 against St.George.

That was a great chase but it has to be put into perspective, Moga is the only player in history that has had more knee reconstructions than Adam Doueihi. 🤣

I hope I am not being too harsh with that comment, also that was Brent Naden looming large to be second man in on that tackle.

Hard to believe that was over 2 years ago, could have sworn it was much more recent.

we had a chance to do this last year and didnt i'm not sure if benji thinks staines is a fb
i think he will go well there but yeah ill have staines and mason fighting it out for the fb spot

as for skelton i rate him but i think Luke will be there by the end of the year

Etched in our memory because it was so out of character. Yet despite his great defensive deficiency, Adam can open up a game and produce decent metres, so worth a spot on lowish dollars.
Agree. We'll only be left in that position if he doesn't get a 1 or 6 opportunity at another club. Can't imagine us paying much more than the minimum with the shape of our squad.

He'd be a lot more in demand if he could tackle. Could be Liam Fulton mk2.

Yes, the weigh up has to be between Adam’s poor defence and his effective strike in attack.
Why they can’t work on his ability to defend when it has been a glaring weakness his whole time here is maddening.
Douehi is always caught out with his bad reads in defence, he's also a bit tackle shy and seems to avoid the first man in tackle, rather he just holds out a lazy arm but he will jump in effectively as 2nd or 3rd man in a tackle.

Maybe he's tackle shy after his bad run of injuries but I don't think his defence is up to NRL standards. Sure he can be an attacking weapon and he can kick goals, but does that outweigh his shocking defence that allows the opposition to roll right over our boys and keep them on the backfoot especially close to the try line?

Maybe the coaching staff can fix some of his defensive deficiencies, show him video after video of his bad reads in season 2024, ensure his strength & fitness is up to scratch and we may see some improvement, but he's got to show he actually CAN defend and be consistent before he pulls on a first grade jersey.

Now there you go again Winny, taking the name of the great D. Fitzhenry in vain.
One of our greatest ever wingers, well sort of 🤣🤣🤣.
I used to cringe every time the opposition put up a bomb to Fitz, it was always lump in the throat stuff.

I'll give him this though, he played like a champ in the semis & GF in 2005!!
Glad to see he was made a life member.

if the tin man can find a heart to defend ,probably worth keeping, All the players on last year of contract n Klemmer with club favorable clauses should be flushed

For me it would be whoever is 1st choice State Cup fullback. If thats Staines then yes. If thats Miller, then him.
Keeping wingers and centres in the positions they have been training in

Etched in my memory and could not believe it was over 2 years ago.

Says a lot that I can't remember anything notable about him since that time, oh wait, there was that time when he didn't bother tackling because he had to pick up his mouth guard and then there was that leg cramp where Gamble called him out and exposed him big time.

To be honest, I can't remember if they happened before or after him running down Moga, but, I have to agree that he can be a threat running with the ball in hand, it's just that he all too often wants to be the hero and not pass the ball.

I don't wish anything bad on him but it annoys me that we have given him a 1 year extension on 2 occasions now, much earlier than we needed to, and although he may be on a relatively low amount for this latest contract extension, he has still been taking up a top 30 spot that at times we have been in desperate need of.

that's fair enough. I'm of the opinion that while Mason offers us plenty, he's not good enough to play fullback currently because he almost refuses to catch bombs. Staines on the other hand is a much safer bet.

Olam is in for L centre.

R center and backrow is quite tricky. For some reason, I see Naden (if switched on) as the safest defensive option out of To'a, AD and Naden. AD is just way too slow, gets lethargic too often in games and To'a forgets all structures at times.

Naden, I feel can be pumped with confidence and given the reassurance that the coaching staff has a lot of faith in him and see if that extracts the best out of him. Need him to be a stable head at centre like Gagai, Jennings or Chambers in their later years.

He’s a grappler not a tackler, hence the reason he misses tackles. Needs to develop shoulder strength, leg drive and timing for max impact. He’s big enough !
