Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

He told them to throw it around where if we'd played tight percentage footy, kick to corners etc we likely win, we'd won our two prior games but he tells them to throw it around, they do and drop it time after time after time gifting it to parra
He admitted he screwed up
Maybe right. But was there on the night. The way we played. We had no chance. Not sure about the throwing it around? It’s something I am used to now and we have been doing it since 2005 (worked then) but if he told them not to tackle…which they forgot to..then I would also be pissed. Anyway on that night Parra came to play. We were still in the sheds.

Wow has Galvin done anything? Has he played 25 first grade games he helped win his first spoon

In time he mite be a great player
Yes, hard to pay overs on potential. Big money usually goes to those who have done it, and can do it again.
I wouldn’t imagine Thurston was overpaid when he left the Dogs but his subsequent contracts would have taken some giant steps.
I think that’s how it will go for Galvin.

Thurston won a grand final with the dogs in 2004.

Luai was offered 700K on his third offer from Penrith and at the time a 3 time premiership winner and over 100 first grade games
That tells me that he wasn’t seen by them ( irrespective of media hype) as the organiser, or even sub organiser, and they maybe see him as having peaked.
We paid massive dollars in the hope he truly wants to prove himself in a tougher environment. Let’s hope that’s what happens.
I’m interested to read he’s still living in Leonay ( I think) and was recently talking about the long drive ew to Concord. Plenty of people who live out there feel the same, so I wonder if that might be an issue down the line.

Galvin played just as good as Dylan Brown did last year. With 90 less games and 500k less.

Interesting how different people see things- see I don’t see Benji’s “falling out” as you call it, as a Benji problem so much. Furthermore I don’t agree with the description of those particular players as “quality NRL players” specifically, particularly with regards to the way they played at the Tigers, especially in recent seasons.
Every one of the players you have mentioned had specific performance issues that Benji called them out on - some might say that it needed to be done and applaud him for doing it when previous coaches never seemed to want to.
Also, I think it’s yet to be seen whether his “failures” in this area lead us to a better squad and better results. Certainly I for one am not unhappy that he has made it clear what he is expecting from experienced players and I am also not unhappy that the players you mentioned are on the outer or already “outed”!
The 5 players I mentioned have all played tier internationals or origin with the exception of Nofoaluma who was a former Dally M winger. 2 of those players (Nof and JOf) have won the clubs player of the year, so proven they can perform here. I can certainly understand the viewpoint that they weren't necessarily quality players during Marshall's time here, but they clearly have proven to be quality when correctly managed.

I suspect only Nofoaluma has individual issues bigger than any coach could overcome at the time he was moved on. He is also the only one that I believe fits the description of previous coaches failing to address performance. Of the other 4 JOf was our player of the year in 22 the year before Marshall (and Sheens) took over and Utoikamanu played his Origin game in 23, Marshall's (and Sheens) first year. The other 2 weren't here prior to 23 to have performance issues under other coaches.

Yes they weren't playing particularly well here but is it not on the coach to get the best out of them?
Yes, moving on these under performers may result in a better squad. The hope is that the new improved squad being 'his squad' will mean he is better placed to get the best out of them.
The major concern for me is if he couldn't get those guys to perform well why will he get the new and improved squad to perform well?

I hope Galvin understands that his manager sees him as a cash cow and he can stay leveled headed as best a 19 year old can

You may well be correct about Benji - but we don’t know yet and will have to wait and see.
I am not convinced that their under performance was about Benji’s capabilities as a coach - more likely their own incapabilities as players.
Nof - sure he may once have played well for the Tigers but his last few seasons were ordinary and he became toxic.
Jof - great guy, great club man but an average player who would struggle in a top 4 side.
Bateman- has a track record for this crap and we are better off without him.
Paps- never wanted to play for us and only put in once he’d signed elsewhere.
Klem- needed to step up last season but often put in weak performances and did not show the leadership that was expected.
Uto- soft as and deserved a rocket you know where.
Naden- honestly for a guy with his NRL background he plays without any semblance of thought whatsoever. I don’t blame Benji for benching him and I’m sure 90% of fans don’t either.
