Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Thats not a given and is likely the reason his family is pushing for a new start elsewhere.
As per the point we were discussing.
It doesnt matter a shit how good he currently is, its all about how good he can become and thats where the development debate is being held.
Thing I wasn't a fan of was him being forced to play with a broken hand because it was for the good of the team, in his rookie year the only good he needs to think about is for himself, I can understand in 3 years he is experienced and he can suck it up, but expecting him to do it in his first season was really poor from the club imo. The injury might only be minor but it's his first year he should have played a handful of games for a taste then dropped down a grade come back up for a few more just to ease him into it.

When we did give him a breather, it was around the time he was getting frustrated and there were reports he was mouthing off in the dressing room about leaving.
That is when the extended break was required. We actually won that week and there was no need to rush him back in.

I don’t think we had anything to do with him going from NZ to the GC. That he ended up with us was more dumb luck than good management. Keebra had just switched to us after Canberra ended their partnership. In an alternate universe Benji is down in the capital and we’re complaining about Ricky’s latest 10 year contract extension…
Oh wow. Thanks Kevin.... I mean @Yossarian 😊

There's many questions to be asked regarding where Galvan is, and where he will/might get to in his development.

On one hand- he was really good for a 1st year starter. Invariable anything 'good' we did had his involvement in it. His fitness levels seem outstanding. The game didn't look to be too big for him.

On the other hand- he shone in a terrible team. Not exactly hard to stand out when the rest looked so bad. He made a number of errors through trying too hard. I think his defence is much worse than anyone wants to talk about. And I don't mean technique. His reading of defence, if you pick it apart, is pretty ugly.

I keep going back to this- the Tigers went all out to sign Latu Fainu. They brought in Sezar. Sullivan. And chased & signed Luai. All the while with Galvan on the books. In the Harold Matts winning side, Galvan was 2nd Row & Heath Mason was 5/8.

Galvan wasn't supposed to do this well. And the club had/has Latu higher rated at the least, given the money invested.

Galvan's fitness & willingness to get involved put him ahead of the rest. I suspect his ability in comparison to some of the others isn't significantly better.

I'd be very, very careful with his future contract. This has Luke Brooks vibes. And I wasn't a critic of Brooks. I believe effort goes a long way. But you shouldn't sink your salary cap into effort.

I still believe Galvan is destined for the back row. Maybe the guy we signed to play back row is the best comparison of where I expect Galvan to get to- Jack Bird. I think he's that kind of player level- if he hits his talent level.
I agree with most of this , which is what I was trying to say as well . I just think Galvins ceiling is a bit higher than Jack Bird. Actually I retract that , I think Galvins ceiling is the exact same as what Birds ceiling was at his age, before all the injuries .
Hopefully he gets luckier than bird did .

I understand, just pointing it out as when he won it, is it a prestigious award depends who's being asked. I think the international game has come a long way and hope for the best for any player in them, but me personally could care less about them.
Didn't mean it as a dig at you - hope it wasn't taken that way.
Still, the fact is that the year he was voted best in internationals he was at the tigers. You still have to be pretty bloody good to win it.

Jack Bird could have been an absolute star if not for so many injuries. As it’s turned out, he’s only been an above average first grader.
Agree G was so unlucky to be injured when he landed at the broncos if fit, he would have reached a high level there so many footballers turn out to be brittle.

How about we stop worrying about what happened last season, assume they are all fitter, stronger and faster than last season and see how they play before worrying about anything else ?
Because we are discussing the development of the young players.
You cannot do that without referring to the past as 2025 data is not available yet.

Will allow them one day off mate then get your backsides back into it there's a top 8 to achieve this season.
Rest is just as important as training , if not more so . I’m almost certain every player has been given a “light walk” as thier Sunday workout .
They will begin to wind down once the trials are over . It will be about maintaining , not gaining . So if they haven’t made the necessary improvements they needed to by now , then they are all but out of time .

Can’t be much training going on at the tigers. I’m out at the NSW state oztag championships at Penrith. Seen John Morris yesterday and today coaching one of the teams. Heighno was out here yesterday with the Central Coast team as well.
Lookin for the nex Benjy
