We are getting rid of a guy we weren't going to use this year so we can sign someone else for this year or next year. Now we are guaranteed not to be stuck with his awful contract

Starting from scratch in many ways is far easier because you don't have a single bad contract on your hands for 2 or 3 years and you have a full salary cap to work with.

You have to take opportunities when they present themselves. Klemmer was only going to play a few top grade games this year if any due to a clause in his contract, so this was a perfect opportunity to off load his contract.

It also puts the club in a good cap position to enter the market place if and when the right player hits the market. Time will tell if was a bad call, but I see it as a smart move
