Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Offering Galvin 650k a season is just a waste of everyone's time. His manager would laugh in your face and if anything you'd have slightly increased his chances of leaving by offering such an insultingly low deal. The bidding for Galvin starts at 800-900k and that's for the two seasons he's already contracted; I'd be shocked if an extension to 2028 can be done for less than 3.8m. Don't think he's worth it? Your call; someone will.

There's also not as much coming off the books as you think at the end of 2026. Bird (dear god we gave him two years, SMH), Koroisau (but we'll need his money to keep Da Silva, hopefully), Olam (but the same applies re Makasini) and maybe To'a are the only ones who are on any real coin (and I doubt To'a is on much). The rest will all be close to minimum salary, which doesn't help as they need like-for-like replacements.
The thing is @2041 Galvin is contracted to us for '25 & '26 so he can continue on and earn whatever he is on atm, or he can accept a pay increase. I think $650k is more than reasonable if not excessive for a 2nd season player of Galvin's ilk (2nd ranked half in the wooden spoon club behind JL).

I feel Galvin himself would see himself as a Wests Tigers player long-term, it would be purely Isaac Moses advising him & his parents along the lines of let's see how the start of this season transpires before you extend. If there is no improvement in the squad under Benji or more turmoil at board level, I'm sure they will wait until Nov 1.

I understand the circumstances. I've said this before, but the reality is the bit of leverage the Tigers have is that they can upgrade Galvin now. The problem is, the longer they go without doing so the smaller that advantage becomes. If he's prepared to play 2025 on relative peanuts I think he's gone.

Think about it from Galvin's perspective. You can take a deal from the Tigers now, which secures your future and means whatever happens - catastrophic injury, total loss of form etc - you'll never make less than $3-4m from the game. Plus you'll be a free agent again at 22 or 23 so if things go well you've got ample opportunity to really cash in down the line.

On the other hand, if you don't take a deal now you're open to the risk that you get a horrible injury or just don't develop as everyone hopes. That way you've got $250k for 2025 and $350k for 2026 as your only guarantee.

The choice is: maybe take less than you might get for 2027 and 2028 by signing now, but in return secure your financial future more or less for life, or play for massive unders to keep your options open. If you decide not to take the extension, really the only plausible rationale is that you are extremely confident of getting a better offer in November or that you've more or less decided you want to play elsewhere (or some combination of the two). Either way, that's not a good outlook for the Tigers.

How can the Tigers influence the decision? By making a bold call on whether they think Galvin is the future and, if they do, making him their best offer. Personally I think he's going to be offered contracts ith close to $1m average annual value in November (and his manager clearly thinks he's going to get something close to that) so whatever we offer him has to compete with that. If we're going to put him on $1m or so from 2027, really what's the point in relatively short changing him now?

I've got no idea what sort of offer, if anything, gets this done. But I strongly suspect anything much short of a two-year extension with annual salaries of something like 800k, 900k, 1.1m, 1.1m doesn't get close.

Oh, and BTW: there's absolutely no way Isaac Moses's advice is "let's see how the season starts and work it out from there". He will have a very, very clear idea of what various teams might be willing to offer on 1 November under various circumstances and a concrete plan for getting to the biggest number.

This is why 2025 is so important and we have the worst pack in the competition, this will only convince Galvin to leave come November , and forget about 2026 we need to get results NOW

So has anyone solved the puzzle yet ?
Is Klemmer staying or going ?
Who is this player rumoured to be heading back to Wests Tigers ?
If Klemmer goes are we replacing him, or are we relying on our outstanding NSW Cup players to step in ?

It's a dog's breakfast V incoming could be anyone no word on Klem or a replacement from within you haven't missed anything.

Agree about the greater good Jolls but what about the here and now, it just seems like we get caught in similar situations with players way too often through the years, please guys don't say sign from within the only one that showed anything was Kit, I had hopes for Johannsen but at the moment he is a human twig ready to be snapped in half by opposition forwards.
Not much you or I can do about the here and now except trust in the Richo/Benji plan. The problem may well be that those plans were all about filling spots in 26 and now we have a spot we hadn't planned on and a bit of cash (not much) that we didn't think we had. I don't know of any experienced FG edges that are available so we are going to have to see what the Molo/Klemmer shuffle shakes loose.

Wish the Leniu rumour was true would be a great upgrade wanted him when the pea hens nabbed him.

I reckon Roosters may offer to swap Galvin for Leniu
I'd tell them to get stuffed we still have Galvin for 2 years signed. If Leniu really wants out I'd suggest to his manager on the quiet to just get him to kick stones at training and refuse to turn up because mental health, worked to get guys our of contracts early. Reason I say this is Leniu is 1000 - 1 to ever come here. But if he does Galvin re signs for sure, then we are 1 - 2 regular reliable defensively solid backrowers and a centre from a premiership window. If Marshal can coach.
