Justin Olam #281

Could the new knee injury be because of the way he compensated for other knee problems, both playing and training etc?

Hard not to agree that it was always a very questionable decision to take him given the full context.

I'm no doctor ,yet, quietly confident Olam will be medically retired, based on the small snippets of info i can find out about players/medical retiring in the Nrl

If proven by an independent specialist that he can't play on or in danger of affecting his life going forward why should there be any rules say after the 1st year of his contract, maybe the NRL should look at this.

The knee in question is NOT the knee he has been having touble with prior to joining the WT. He injured this knee last year in rd18, had the operation, but its still no good....So I hope our chances of getting a medical retirement are high.

Let’s wait and see … I wouldn’t necessarily be believing as gospel the media reports this week which have not been confirmed by the club in relation to the specifics of his injury

The club said at the time of his surgery BOTH his knees were to be operated on…

Yes!
I said this the other day and no one mentioned it - it was supposed to be them both wasnt it? So has he only had the one done? and it failed?
The club really need to clear this one up before the rumours get out of hand.

Both knees being operated on is irrelevant. 1 knee was an existing injury .The 2nd knee was damaged last year after he came to WTs. Sure the more info we are privy to the better. Either way Olam is out the door if /when compo or not,

The club hasn’t really had anything to say about Olam since the surgery over six months ago….Until the club says anything officially ..I’ll take things with a grain of salt ,,,The more favourable outcome for the club is for this to be deemed a “new” injury, but I’m assuming the insurers will do their own investigation..

Where's @BZN when you need him.
Fire off an email to Richo mate and get the word.on Olam, Luke L, Turuva Nado etc
nah he only fires off emails to Richo to somehow , in a roundabout way make it about the magpies and how hard done by he is .
He’s not firing off emails to Richo over things that arnt about him ….

I saw Peter Moussa yesterday going for a jog, everything is fine apparently..I didn't ask him a lot with regards to injuries but everything is fine. I wouldn't be surprised to see Olam retired as a side note though

Yeah, I think he could be a solid option. Just not sure he's the elite centre we could buy with klemmer and Olam going. Happy to be wrong though!
Yea, I... I really don't know..

I mean we have:
Skelton/Staines/Turuva as Wingers. Skelton is turning into quality and with Staines, lets see.

Centers: (assuming Olam is out).
Bird, Turuva?, Naden, Faataape... Toa really needs to go. If Bird moves to the Front row, which is a real maybe. Faataape could be a real option for center.

Now I totally get it, We need guns not fringe graders. So far Faataape seems to be holding his own which means we could spend on a gun in the front row (and I think we will need too).

Richo is an expert at medical retirements came from south’s. Reality is we need to replace Olam with quality somehow we can’t be relying on Toa, Douihei and Faatape.
Agreed we can't be relying on Fringe Graders...

and I think for the first time we are not.

Last years back row would be Toa, Douihei, Faataape and Naden/Staines.

Now its:
Skelton, Turuva, Faataape/Naden, Staines.
^ Insert Bird/AD where they fit.

We gave our backrow a massive wakeup call. It's no coincidence that Naden went up a gear. Yes they have to prove themselves on the field and yes it will take time for them to Gel as a team. But less worried about our backs at the moment. ...

Yep, I love Faataape - I hope he gets the spot and becomes a strike centre. I just think he might struggle defensively against the bigger, taller centres but want to be wrong.

centre and back row are glaring areas of need in this team. Wait and see Seyfarth can play as can Douihei. Just a big drop off compared to the spine and pack.

he is in a good age group with a dodgy coach who seem to be in a good space - ref blow that whistle

Might need that one explained
U sure ? lol . ok .Faataape is coming thru with 2 grades .All is his age group /lets get jiggy with it. With a coach some of our new recruits ,joined for yet the majority of league land bag out. Its a bloody long year ,its a longer off season . That help .LOL
