Heath Mason #288

I almost reckon we should start grooming him as a centre. We are weak there, and he has speed to burn. I personally think we should put extra time into Faatape’s defence as he has great attacking motion and knows how to get a try.

Not a bad idea to give Mason a chance at centre… although he is a little small… I’m not sure where else he is going to fit in the team tbh..and a year or so down the track he looks like becoming an NRL level player ..might be looking elsewhere for a gig

..Faataape looks improved and perhaps has dropped a bit of weight …gotta work on that D as you mention …

If we were a smart and successful club (Which we're far from) and were happy to develop the likes of TDS and Latu in Lower Grades as we should be - We'd see that Mason could be a cracking Bench Utility.
He could easily be coached to fill in anywhere in the backline, also at Hooker and Lock at a pinch.

I love his enthusiasm, Got plenty of ticker for a little bloke.
He has some holes in his game
- more than likely because he's young and has been shifted a bit already....
If we gave him that position and some direction, and he committed to it
- he might even reach the rep levels a bloke like Watson has.

As it is, We're all here trying to work out how to get TDS, Latu and Mason in the same 17

Probably only room for 1 unless Latu or Mason could successfully play at centre.

Right now I obviously think Bula over Mason.

However, I love Heath. He is very involved, not just with the hit ups and around the ball but always there in support behind the line as well. I know he has his deficiencies but high ball can be worked on. I think he could end up like a Dylan Edwards.

On the other hand, Bula is a freaky talent, but based on our track record, I am worried he's going to end up like Sloane, Matt Dufty, Nathan Gardiner type situation.

I personally think he would make great 5/8 out side a organise number 7

How's he compare to those blokes you named, out of curiosity? I don't think he has the attitude or frame issues they did

It's worth a look with the right player inside and outside him. I have always had this weird thing with balancing size(height) across the park. So if you have a small centre like Mason, you need a big winger outside him and a big 5/8 inside him. With Galvin at 5/8, you could move Skelton to the right and you have him surrounded by size. His right foot step would be dangerous on the right and he provides the balance of great speed off the mark to help Glavin and Skelton in this area. So effectively all 3 balance out each other's strengths and weaknesses. It could be a dangerous right side.
