Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Think about it. For a second. Would you like your personal life being being divulged in public. Your health record? 4pm Email. We gotta say something. Keep the fans happy. Throw some bread and water at em. Like in the Gladiator film. Who cares if he plays or not. Its only the first game. Its a long season.
It's all about the club being professional in all areas of the business AHX including communication to members & fans. I follow other professional sports like the AFL & NFL and injury reports are standard to keep members/fans engaged & invested. Sure the high performance dept may not want certain info divulged but at the very least should inform which players are injured, what the injury is & an approx return-to-play timeframe.

I get it dude - I’m not an idiot lol. (All fun meant in that)

I’m simply asking kade what’s latest is

I get info from a mate who talks with galvins inner sanctum every month or so

But I wanted to hear if he was hearing what I was bc I’m not sure if I’m being fed BS either … good to fact check everything
What have you heard

Keeps the opposition guessing

If the Penrith/ Australian Lock Forward isn’t on big dollars I’d be shocked.
I don’t understand when people say someone isn’t worth the money because he’s not a fullback, Half,Hooker or Prop.
It’s all about Roster management and for the first time in a long time we seem to be getting our Roster into a good position, I can see us looking for 2nd rower’s & Centres at the end of this year to further improve our squad going forward.
IMO
Richo has been our best signing for a very long time.
I get that, my point being if we pay big money to our lock, what position do we have to take the money from, it's cap management like you said, it's all going to depend on what value Benji and Richo place on specific positions, they might value a good lock at 1 million, they might not and think we only need a reliable lock and use the rest of the money on other positions, we can only really have 3 big earners in one club. If the N.R.L get a bigger t.v deal then with a bigger grant we could have more, it's just a matter of what positions the guys running the joint value the most will determine where the cap is spent.

Gee Madge like experience doesn’t he. I can’t believe Godwowski is starting over Piakora and Shibasaki over Mariner. Considering Mariner’s trial form. Mind you though with Staggs injured Mariner would be a shoe in you would think.
Gosiewski got his first grade debut under Madge at Souths and Shibasaki has been around for a long time he was the next big thing at the Warriors star fullback

Agree
I’ll leave it in Richo & Benji’s hands
As hopefully they are working together in prioritising what money is spent on which players/positions to turn us into a top 4 team.
I’m not expecting that to happen in 2 years but expect big improvement in that time.

The experts aren't wrong eh, the salary cap is a very precise science.

All reports are that Galvins family are not happy with how he was treated at the Eels. Can’t see him ever going there.

Is that kinda like how Mitch Moses's family weren't happy with how the Eels treated him as a Junior?

I love this reasoning that people 'invent' about a certain player never playing somewhere for some concocted reason that somehow makes it all make sense to them.

Galvin and his whole family are life long Parra fanatics - Somehow that never gets mentioned?
If they were taking odds of Galvin staying at the Tigers, Or moving to the Eels
- The Eels would be more likely shorter.

Brandon Smith article at the link

I found this amusing, as the lack of clarity from the Roosters is all the clarity Brandon needs.

With the mass departure of experienced talent during the off-season combined with the high-profile names sidelined with injury, Parker warned that clarity needs to be given to Smith to ensure an early departure does not place the club in a position of disarray.

Not when you bring playing rosters into the equation.
The only area the Eels have us covered in their 2-5.

Luai is arguably the best half in the NRL. It is a huge vote of confidence in WTs as I am sure he was in demand. Most young halves could only dream of playing beside Luai or Cleary. Galvin will be playing for WTs for the next 2 years on a modest contract. Any talk of him playing with a "winning team" and being "nicely compensated" is just that until his contract expires. As a supporter of WTs I hope young Fainu and Mason provide competition for the NRL 6 jersey. We do have some depth which is a credit to our club.
Cleary won the 2023 GF with luai off the field. Luai is yet to lead an NRL team for a full season at halfback, let alone a 3 time wooden spoon team. He hasn't won a game with a field goal or a clutch play as a half yet. Sure he's excelled in an elite team and won 4 GFs, but on his own (not just without Cleary but all the other guns) it will be completely different, confidence aside. Off season hype will mean nothing until a losing streak of 3 becomes 4, then 5, then 8, etc. as it always does here, and then he regrets coming here and he's lost his competitive spirit that he's been so used to. The good thing is he has experience in a losing side with penrith in 2019 when they were coming last halfway through the season and he helped the comeback in that year with 7 wins in a row when he played in the halves.

Depth is good for competition when you have one standout and one decent player. When you have 2 standouts in a key position one will likely leave or be unhappy about missing out. Too much money spent on depth can also be a big problem as seen with Jayden Sullivan.

My ideal halves combination for 2025 is Luai 7 Galvin 6, however if they don't combine well it's worth trying latu by round 10, which is more than enough time to form combinations.

Further into the future I'd have latu taking over luai at 7 and swapping roles with galvin playing lock. Latu has a isaiya katoa/jahrome hughes style of composure when he plays halfback, obviously very different to the bench impact role he plays brilliantly at the moment

I post this link which is an interview with Shane Richardson about Jerome Luai. Richardson is a man we all respect as WTs' supporters.

These comments in particular resonate -

“In my opinion, he was the best young half coming through, he’s proven at the highest level as the best young half coming through,” he said in December.

“Not only that, he’s a great team leader. That Penrith side revolves around Luai.

When you consider we paid Hastings 800k to be a car park attendant and stand around and point at things, 1 million would be a bargain price for Galvin.
Do it now Richo.
It will inflate his ego and put way too much pressure on the poor kid. He's already got Gus blowing up his tyres because Bulldogs will go after him. He's 19. 19! Yes he's extremely talented but what difference will it make to the overall side and Latu if he realises the cap can't be spent on him in the future and he's got to pack his bags. Luai is also on a million, is there an NRL club with two halves on a million? Storm maybe. But they've got depth and talent everywhere. It will totally disrupt the balance of the squad. A million dollar forward would be more highly valued or a million dollar fullback if Bula doesn't work out, maybe even galvin could play fullback down the track... When luai retires (maybe after the 5 year deal or sooner), galvin can earn the big bucks, but he has to bide his time, just like nathan cleary did. It took nathan 5 years in the NRL to stamp his claim on the game. He debuted at 19, older than Galvin was when he debuted. Development is what will make his value go up, but development and of course money will increase over time, so there's no need to rush until we know his motivation and full potential, under many different situations.

He said that to try and get him here. While mostly true, he hasn't proven himself as a tiger yet. All the off season hype and his past achievements will be in the past but in Round 1, the next chapter begins. Unpredictable to say the least
