Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Ok...so if I'm not saying anything no one else doesn't already know, why continue refuting it?

You have mixed up my original message anyway. It's very simple.

As it stands...TODAY...he is not worth a million because he has only played a handful of games. Has he played well? Yes? Has he played well enough for long enough to command a million a season? I don't think so.

If he puts a good season together in 2025, we still have him under contract for 2026, so he's unlikely to get a million from us during that time. 2027 will be his year.

in 2027, he would have played 3 seasons and if he's been consistent, then he will have earned the contract, albeit with a premium due to what you've pointed out being a lack of halves. Could a club come in and overpay...of course! It happens all the time. People on here talking about 20 million dollar, 10 year deals are kidding themselves - if you would wager on that, then I'd take that bet. One million a season is more likely, if, and only if, he has shown consistency during the time with us. I'd be happy to pay him a million a season also if he is a factor in success for the club. The only caveat being is to show that you can do it over more than 18 games - i don't think that's controversial.

What you have not factored in, is that every year, a new shit hot rookie comes onto the scene and steals the limelight. This may also happen and it's likely across a 2 year time span. You or I don't have a crystal ball and I'm not the one making future predictions. I am talking about right now. If you want to read into it more than that, then that's on you. I really don't know what you're arguing about.

Anyway - I can't keep repeating myself. It's the last comment I make on the matter with you.
You’re worth what someone is willing to pay - not what you “think” someone is worth.

I accept your logic, but tell me. Is Bud Sullivan "worth" $550k a season simply because we were dumb enough to sign that deal?

If I buy BHP shares at $200 today. Does that mean that's what they are worth because I am happy to sell them to you at that price.

Please reconcile that for me.

Exactly
- I'm surprised it seems ignored in the back and forth here.
Especially since both have a recent memory of our Coaches playing days.
The franchise player is Jahrome Luai ….. The reason everyone is ignoring it is because both players are 19. And whilst Galvin clearly has better attitude, it’s very much early doors in thier careers and neither should have any real expectations put on them like “franchise players”

Bud was worth $550k per season to the tigers when he signed the contract.

First game he played - he was worth $250k bc he played terrible. lol.

If you have a buyer willing to pay for shares at $200 that’s what they’re worth to THAT buyer at THAT moment.

Galvin will be worth whatever club wants to pay him that amount.

“Worth” is the transacted value, subjective to the perception of the buyer and seller.

When our 2025 recruits committed:

Jan 3 2024, Jarome Luai signs a 5 year deal
April 26 2024, Sunia Turuva signs a 3 year deal
August 14 2024, Jeral Skelton signs a 2 year deal
August 21 2024, 7 signings including Tristan Hope, Ackland and Rahme
September 3 2024, Royce Hunt signs a 3 year deal
September 9 2024, Jack Bird signs a 2 year deal
September 30 2024, Brett Hodgson appointed assistant coach in a 2 year deal
October 7 2024, Heamasi Makasini signs a 3 year deal (2024 a dev year)
November 18 2024, Terrell May signs a 3 year deal
March 4 2025, Tristan Hope upgraded to a development deal

Worth is not the definition of transacted value of one individual. Oxford defines ut as the level at which someone or something deserves to be valued or rated.

Regardless, let's use your definition because I understand what you're getting at and for that reason we are speaking at cross purposes.

If we assume worth is the amount a transaction was completed for, then yes, it is black and white. If someone pays 500k. Then you cannot argue 500k wasn't paid. It's clear.

Is this the point you are trying to make? If so, I agree with you, but it's not what my argument was.

My point was, there is a general concept of a high price, fair price and a low price for something before anybtransaction takes place which can dictate whether or not a purchase is "worth" making. Generally, this is done by looking at similar transactions to ascertain what something might be worth before putting in your offer no?

You'd think Feledy, Tumeth and Matamua or all but gone.

The others are probably free to go if they can find a deal, but also handy for us on the right money.
Yea, Naden has shown form... I suspect to get a super league contract. Although Brent, man I am actually rooting for you. Would love to see you stand up for Country and show people what you are made of. If you keep this up 100% re-sign.

AD, likewise. Recent form and best idea is a super league contract.

Tumeth, Matamua... Bye..

I suspect Feledy will be given a min value offer as he apparently played a lot of footy with Latu and Galvin. You don't want to break up that Comradery... But nothing above a min value offer, he is on way too much.

I would have thought Feledy was already on minimum?
Anyway at min I’m prepared to keep him, I reckon a good coach would get more out of him, but if an origin centre becomes available his spot could be needed.

Can I get some clarification.

Hope on a development deal. Happy days.

But I thought it was a max of 6 on a development deal per season?

We have 6, only thing is Makasini's probably can't be registered until July when he turns 18.

Meaning between now & then 1 of the 6 gets an upgrade...

We should have spots. 29 currently with Taylan May incoming.

Olam & Klemmer out...

Does that sound right to people?

That’s right. Either a dev player will be promoted to top 30 or cut completely by the time Makasini starts his dev contract on his 18th birthday in July.

Suaalii was close to that I thought??

Ash Taylor is the other player.

IMHO Mitchell Latrell could have demanded it after his first season. GI too.

Which is why I am shaken on Galvin. He isn't in the Latrell/GI league yet, I don't think he is as good as Suaalii.... Heck Galvin isn't that Gun scorer that these three players are.

Galvin is super fit and seems to have a good NRL head, can read the game.... Is that worth 1m?
He’s a teenager who projects to be one of the best halves in the game in a few years time. Whichever club has the gonads to back him won’t regret it.
