Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Doobie is a keeper my friend, don’t you get it and he’ll be there, May or not.

Doobie - is that because of his 1 yr $250k deal they signed him too? They must think a lot of him

May is a Hail Mary …, even if he does become available … but I’m not seeing who else can help in 2025

What frustrates me aswell is the fact some of you so called tigers fans are the equivalent to infant kids throwing tantrums when things do not go your way.

For what reason do you think that the tigers should immediately be a top 4 side in the NRL ?

There were so many positives in that game against the knights. Although we could have conceded more tries to poor execution from the knights, however, our defence was a lot stronger then it has been years prior.

Also, big wraps for Heath Mason. Although the bloke wasnt a stand out and did cough up a costly error the bloke ran it up the guts and was under pressure a lot of the time and stood his ground. To be a 19 year old Fullback in the NRL has got to be one of the most pressuring moments. He done what he could do he is still learning don't beat up on the young kid.

Personally, i feel as though Galvin's cryptonite is a good fullback. It has come to some reflection that the games that galvin hasn't performed well in last season was against teams with good fullbacks. It looked like he was to worried about where kalyn was going to be on last which performed some poor execution and decision making. Lets hope the bloke turns it around he's still young and has a lot to learn

3 spoons in a row and losing a game where the other team was atrocious & we had plenty of quality field positioning is hardly expecting a top 4 side day 1.

The club all pre season has belted out Luai and over the 2 days prior talked about never giving up and being in sync.

Luai took a back seat, whilst Galvin kept playing his side and doing the same thing over and over - we had zero shape. We didn’t look in sync and offered nothing in attack.

Mason tries hard but he shouldn’t be in the NRL as a fullback, I like him, he has something when he runs. He looks lost at fullback, he makes errors every game, his positioning is ordinary and defensively has zero chance in broken play he totally mis reads things, he backs offs & arm grabs. Teams have found him out. Any pressure under a bomb and it’s more than a 50/50 play. Attack wise he isn’t a ball player he is a runner. Fullback isn’t his nrl position. A bench utility where he defends on the line or can be used as a runner is his role.

Benji picked Mason ahead of Staines or Turuva at the back which shouldn’t have happened. So that’s more an issue on Benji rather than Mason

Like picking Hope to start. Hope tried but was found out after 17mins. It cost us an attacking chance and momentum. That’s on Benji.

Why are we always looking for a saviour ?
It’s a team game and no one person is going to do it. Just watched the replay and both our attacking and defensive structures were very poor.
No real cohesion which is the same as previous years. Good to see Benji has rolled out his canned press conference face, I hope that was just a front for what must have been very disappointing for him. I know he has to defend the team, but boy it must have hurt inside.
Anyway, onward and upward they say. We’ve knocked off Parra a bit recently and they have no Moses.
If like to answer...

It isn't we are always looking for a saviour.
its we've had deficiencies for a very long time that are not addressed.

Yes, we've overhauled our pack.
BUT, we've lacked decent centres since Simona left...

Taylan May would be a huge inclusion and go towards improving this. Is he the saviour? No chance. But we've seen what he can offer on the field and he's better than Faatape, Toa and AD.

We've seen post after post saying we need a backrower and a strike centre. This is what will improve our squad and hopefully allow us to win more games. There isn't 1 person that can save this team, it's a collective effort and the way forward is to ensure the right people are in the right positions.

Anyway, next year, maybe even towards the end of this year.....

Our backline could look like;

1. Jahream Bula 🇫🇯
2. Sunia Turuva 🇫🇯
3. Taylan May 🇼🇸
4. Heamasi Makasini 🇹🇴
5. Jeral Skelton 🇼🇸

That's actually a really well balanced backline with some strike and if Makasini continually developes like we hope, we've got a star on our hands.

As usual, good comments D but have a go at solving our backline issues, this week.
I’ll start things off;
1. Bula
2. Turuva
3. Skelton
4. Toa
5. Douehi ( the new Ross Conlon or Darrel Halligan - poor tackler, fair runner but above average goal kicker).
What do you think ?

Flag Appreciation Thread? 😎
Looks shiny but there are still???
But you add in 6. Gal/Latu and 7. JL 8. May, 9. Api, and you are starting to look good.
Defence wins games?

Bula is straight back in, obviously.

Not sold on Toa but I think Benji likes him.
Skelton, too good on the wing. He stays.

1. Bula
2. Turuva
3. Toa / Faatape
4. ADizzle
5. Skelly

But that’s almost the same as last night and we never looked like making breaks.
Plenty for the coaching brains trust to think about after video session.

Yep, sadly...

I'm hoping Gal x Luai gel and Luai takes more control of the game.

Puts his backs in space.
I'm also hoping we hear about what's next for Taylans future too and he's woken up to himself.

They say doing the same thing and expecting different results is the definition of insanity

I’m putting Luai’s game down to missing the trials and first game back …no such excuse for Gal …I don’t like his grubber/ attacking kick game … maybe Luai should be running with this most of the time …

I think our halves desperately need a link man 13 to straighten the attack and open up space for them. Even though Twal was one of our best, this workmanlike 13 really affects our attack. The thing is Benji doesn't seem to think this way at all. Even when Bird came on, he just played like a front rower. With the modern day players being so fit and well drilled, it's to much to expect the halves to strip defences on their own, they need help from a clever 9 and a clever 13

Let’s hope we sort out our halves or who ever is on the right will catch a cold

It says alot though that we hope May gets off to give some faith even after we spent over $2m on backline upgrades in the off season already to which none of them were used in attack for game 1.

I actually think Lock and Backrow is a bigger problem for us than center though.

I will give the team time to gel especially because it was game 1 for some of them and without Bula/Api the shape will be different.
