He was also banging on about it throughout the Leadership outbound training. Gould’s excessive praise of Galvin also serves to rattle Benji.
We should have got home against the knights. 😡

What evidence do you have that Benji has instructed Luai to do that? I don't have any evidence to the contrary. However, the reality is we have a 21 game 19 year old junior and a 4 time premiership winning veteran of the game. There is no way in hell any coach, even a rookie, is going to prioritise ball to Galvin over Luai.

The kid overplayed the first trial, corrected in the second and has gone back to trying to do too much. It was as obvious on Friday as it was in trial one.

Luai will be aware of it and Galvin will be recalibrated.

I think our attacking shapes will change completely with Bula back in the side.

it seems to me like the club doesn’t trust Mason to be the man out the back and he effectively plays as the right sided half in attack with Galvin playing as a quasi-fullback. I’d anticipate we see Bula sweeping both sides and Luai and Galvin parked on either side for the most part.

I can see things changing completely this weekend. well, hopefully anyway.

Are you saying we essentially had a reverse plan to Newcastle last week.
Whereby Ponga was a half but defensively a fullback and Galvin was a fullback and defensively a half.
Interesting;
What gives you the impression though that Bula can ball play better than Mason? I think Galvin will continue to play like the fullback that fills the gaps and Bula will play off the back of it.

yeah, I am.

what gives me that impression is that our red zone attack looked pretty much the same way it did when Mason came into the side last year. they effectively only let him sweep on scrums and for the most part he was parked on the right. it was Galvin who often was the one to sweep with Mason holding a defender on that right side.

Bula can ballplay better than Mason from a fullback standpoint, no question. it's unconventional at times but they certainly trust him to do it more than Heath. nine try involvements in six games before he went under the knife says a lot to me.

Fair enough.
I mean it worked last week for Newcastle.
Sharp was hanging around the ruck looking for the opportunities to get a roll on, offload and link up with ponga and the outside backs.
That’s what Bula does best for us.

I also think it was pretty obvious that Luai was playing a bit of a Yeo job as well as his own. He and Nathan for that matter benefited from play off a set forwards shape that opened up time.
He had to create that directly off the ruck.

The whole forum is praying the attack improves dramatically this Sunday jr, we might cop some crap in the media if we lose, ahh we lost to Parra they haven't improved at all, can just smell it.

As I posted previously. Luai did during the game, what he said he would do when questioned by the panel pregame. He’s intelligent and experienced, so I assumed that he would not have said what he did unless he was under instructions from the coach.

What do you think caused Benji to walk out of the post game presser when asked to expand on his statement, “there were crucial moments during the game which contributed to the loss.”
I could be way off target? The other options are Benji carried the young vs old players game into the game plan causing Luai to display some dumb obedience? But he’s too mature for that. Or, the micro managing of Luai? Or, Luai was still acclimatising being in a Tigers jersey?
What I do know is we should have won that game and Luai could have won it for us if he played his natural game.

I agree that the game was there for us to win. I did not see the pre-game so may have missed something, but I doubt that Luai was instructed to play second fiddle to Galvin. From what I saw we tried to play Galvin as a sweeper in the red zone quite a bit and he was caught out by the line speed on Newcastle and did a lot of sideways movement cramping the backline and generally being a nuisance in our own attack. His short kicks were also average, although he is usually quite skilled in that area.

Clunky first game, Galvin overplaying it a bit, X's and O's good on paper but not transferring to the paddock. I'm not sure what it was. The key for me is that it looked off on the paddock so I doubt that is what they trained to execute. Galvin is still too wet behind the ears to adjust to the intensity so probably continued to try and execute and overplayed his hand - possibly trying too hard. We are going to get that as the combinations bed down.

They will both be better for the run and I have no doubt that Luai and Galvin had their own post match review, on top of the team review, where they deconstructed their role in our performance. Our halves, in attack, were poor. We know that they both have talent so I expect it will gel eventually and when it does it could be something special. Will that be this week? I hope so, but the reality is that it will probably take a month or so for them to really hit their straps.

The other issue is why our edges weren't running lines that either half could hit. They don't need to be bought onto the ball - they need to run the hole and let Luai/Galvin serve them the ball.

I expect that Luai will be more dominant this week and Galvin will be reigned in a little. Not too much - just enough to stop him overplaying the role.

I thought it was those runs of schiller Lucas best Sharpe etc where combined they probably beat 28 attempted tackles... After Benji had said we been working on our defense all summer... Might be wrong
